Character Generation

By King Tycho, in WFRP Gamemasters

Does anyone have any suggestions on speeding up character generation? This seems to take quite a while, and it would be nice to find some ways of stream lining, or perhaps ways of making it more fun/interesting.

Look in my sig and download the 'Character Helper' Excel file. You can gen a character in about... 3 mins with it (then however long it takes you to pick out your action cards),

Yeah, the only thing that takes any time at all for chargen is picking out Actions. I would let players just try out any Actions they like the sound of, and let them swap them for others until they find ones they like. This should speed things up a lot.

I have a worksheet over at Hammerzeit that's designed for a GM to hand out to all the players around the table; it helps them calculate what they can spend and how. You'll need a skills list and the cards, but other than that, it helped my own players to cut down character generation to about 30 minutes. It's on this page , and is called the "Pen and Paper Character Creation Worksheet." Hope it helps!

nice and useful.

The action card choice is actually the longest step if the GM doesn't drive by the players.

I let them choose only by the name of the card... and they are free to change and study them later if that wasn't done before the game.

Agree with the above. Let them grab what they like at first blush, then after the first adventure give anyone who wants to time to read them over and swap them out.
