Basing indecision...and FFG AH FB fan group recommendations.

By Brother Bart, in Mansions of Madness

Hey all, I’m looking for the best/most active FB fan/discussion groups for the various Arkham Horror files games. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I’d like one that is for fans of all the FFG AH games, but failing that...specifically for Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition, Arkham Horror LCG, and Arkham horror 3rd Edition.

im having a REALLY hard time (First world problems, I know) deciding whether to base my figures on the giant black square bases that come with MoM, or on clear acrylic rounds...I’m sure this has been discussed countless times, but I’m looking for as much input and as many opinions as possible to help me decide. I plan to use the figures from MoM in other AH games, maybe even the LCG if they match up the figures released to the available investigators in the game.

I can't help with the discussion group, but regarding basing, another alternative is to make custom bases, as seen elsewhere in this forum - the ones by Gnutten look really nice.

Personally, I currently just use the monster tiles rather than the figures, as I want to get them painted up and probably rebased... those big black squares are functional but ugly. Sadly my painting talents are slow, so it'll be some time before I get nice looking figures to the board.

From my experience - Owning Arkham Horror 3rd (having played a log of AH 2nd), owning MoM 1st and 2nd (writing scenarios for Valkyrie) and playing a lot of AH LCG. I would strongly recommend re-basing to clear bases. Here are my reasons.

* The black bases are far too large - they block out too much of the board and make it almost impossible to use with AH LCG and AH 2nd/3rd.

* They are designed for MoM and AH 2nd - where the monster stats are printed on the bottom, however they fall out when moving monsters and generally most of the text is blocked by the base. I personally find it easier to just place the tokens on the side of the board (one for each monster type). WHen I get round to it I am going to print off the monster reference sheet on photo paper (or laminate it) - BGG Post to get updated sheets on new expansions ( Direct Link to PDF )

* I like seeing the artwork under the bases in MoM - This is why clear is a better choice in my opinion

I would also recommend some type of custom base because I think the big black bases, as scrubbless also mentions, are too big and blocks out too much of the board and are just generally very ugly. Personally, I made custom bases ( you can read more about them here ) because I wanted to have the monster stats on the bases, but the problem with my approaches is that making more bases the way I made them have turned out to be somewhat of a hassle, as I found out I when recently bought another expansion. So, I kind of regret not going with transparent bases, but I am also happy with what I have.
