LOS and Cover Question

By Miles C, in Rules

This may be a simple, dumb question, but I'm asking it anyway.

An enemy trooper unit is in the open, and has no suppression tokens. The unit leader of my storm trooper unit is behind a wall. The storm trooper unit leader has no LOS to the enemy unit. The rest of my storm trooper unit is in the open. I declare that my storm trooper unit is attacking the enemy unit, and measure range from my storm trooper commander. The defending unit is within range 3 so everybody has range to shoot. So far so good.

Now I determine if the defending unit has cover by determining LOS from my storm trooper unit commander to each mini in the defending unit. Each mini in the defending unit is blocked by the wall. As I said before my unit leader has no LOS.

Thus, not only is the storm trooper unit commander prevented from shooting, but the defending unit has heavy cover correct?

From my understanding of the rules, yes. However, since the unit leader is in base contact with the terrain. That terrain cannot cause the defending unit to be obscured, unless LOS is completely blocked. If it isn't completely blocked, then the leader may shoot and the defending unit does not have any cover.

If the attacking unit leader’s base is touching a piece of terrain, that piece of terrain cannot cause a mini in the defender to be obscured, unless line of sight from the unit leader to that mini is completely blocked page 25 of the rule book. so due to it being completely blocked from the unit leader as you describe then they would get cover base off the terrain now keep in mind when determining this you measure from the unit leader to the each mini in the defender (page26) If at least half of all of the defender’s minis are obscured, that unit has cover.

If the unit leader's LOS is completely blocked, is it light cover or heavy cover?

Heavy cover. It’s on page 8 under “Cover Type”:

“Terrain either provides no cover, light cover, or heavy cover,
depending on its characteristics. Terrain that completely blocks
line of sight always provides heavy cover”

Thanks everybody
