New App Campaign: Hoth now available

By Isnigu, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I don't get it. How hard would it have been to just say "Coming soon, a new Hoth campaign for the app" like a month ago. That would have saved a lot of hand wringing and debate about is the game dead. And even now, they don't have anything up on the news page about it? Weird. I don't follow their facebook or twitter page. I totally agree with those who said that FFG's marketing people are doing a pretty sub standard job.

It's like they've got a gag order against themselves. Worlds 2019, then this.

Any hope that somebody will be surprised to discover new IA plastic in a FLGS anytime soon? This new silent marketing strategy is bonkers.

I tend to be rather optimistic and non-judging about these things (having worked on geek franchises myself), but the FFG silence about their own releases does feel pretty weird. I wonder what's going on? I bet there is a reason behinde these things, a decision, but I can't for the life of me understand what it could be...

Very odd nothing has been put up yet. They should at least have something up to say that it has been released. I'm sure that not everyone interested in the game follows the twitter account or facebook page.

Agreed.

I would hope its more about avoiding stealing thunder from the new Lord Of The Rings minis game rather than anything negative to IA

I half expect to log in to Amazon some day and find out a big box Endor/Dagobah expansion has been out for the last six months.

One of the Legion devs implied that there was no release article on the new Officers pack due to approval issues from Disney. Probably the same thing here.

Got it, Return to Hoth contains episode 9 spoilers. Makes perfect sense. In fact, I think a few people here predicted that about 6 months ago.

... What?

It's ridiculous, but even things like an FAQ update have to go to the Mouse for approval.

Weird, I wonder what the issue is.

I'd hate for FFG and Disney to stop playing nice. They're pretty much the only partnership making good Star Wars games of any variety right now, board or video.

I've never heard anything but them having a good relationship. But this isn't the first time seemingly benign things have been delayed in the approval process. Maybe somebody's on vacation?

Disney has been in fact more jealous of the Star wars franchise recently... they actually famously shot down a Darth Vader "fan-movie" over music copyright issue, something that didn't happen during Lucas' tenure. They know the franchise is a pool of gold and are probably scared to death after the Han solo semi-success. 2019 is the "Episode IX" year, and some people in charge might consider it a "make or break" year. I guess nothing "bad/wrong" should be associate in anyway with "Star Wars", including game product issues.

So it's possible that everything Star wars-related is now regarded by all parties as ultra-sensitive/Top Secret/Risky Business. But if this is the case with IA, it's obviously gone to ridiculous extreme!

Might just be bad Public Relation from FFG though.

I get that, and I’m fine with it... I made the joke wondering what they might have found that would make them turn it down.

Ha! Or you get to Regionals and everyone is running Yoda and Luke with 3x rEwoks and it's the first time you've seen or heard of any of it.

Back in George Lucas' reign, he said that he was happy for fan fiction of any sort (as long as it didn't damage the brand); though he didn't 'authorise' anything, he would only step in if someone tried to make money from it.

Played the first few missions of the campaign this weekend, it was really fun. Challenging missions, but entertaining. Nice to see some figures on the board that I haven't used in a while as well.

Good job FFG for getting me to re cycle my old components and get good use out of them once again :D

Also, I forgot how hard Wampa's can hit.

This really ups my interest for the game. Just love the app and how you can solo the campaign or with friends.

Will surely buy this game soon!

Wampa's are no joke! I remember when we played Return to Hoth last year and whenever a Wampa showed up the Rebels immediately concentrated fire on the furious frozen furies.

SPOILERS

There was a mission where the Rebels speeder crashed, separating them. As they progressed further in they fought an Elite Wampa with special modifiers that turned it into a boss. We affectionately referred to it as the Wampa Queen, imagining this terrifying mother protective of her territory. Maybe they're more of like den mothers?
