question about addon equipment

By azeronbloodmoone, in Rules

So with heavy weapon minis when they can attack the rest of squad can use their own weapon. can the rest of the squad use any weapon including grenades?

if they can't use their grenades why? just curious as i scanned the rules and don't really see where it says they can't use it. i might be missing where it says so please post the page/rule that says you can't.

By default, any eligible minis in the attacking unit can contribute dice to the attack pool from any one weapon they are armed with. The heavy weapon miniature has the option of using the heavy weapon, the default weapon, or any grenade. The normal miniatures can use their default weapon or any grenade.

This is a paraphrase of the rules from step 2 of performing an attack, "Form Attack Pool" on page 14.

Choose Weapons:
The attacker can choose one weapon
from each eligible mini to contribute to the attack pool. To
choose a weapon, the attacker must meet all requirements
indicated by that weapon’s keywords, and that weapon’s range
must include the range of the attack, as determined from the
attacker’s unit leader to the closest mini of the defender.

this is rule i presume your refering to then. and i read that. and it makes me wonder if each mini could potentially have different weapons. for example, a snow trooper unit, flamethrower, extra trooper, fragmentation grenade. at range 1 flame thrower x1, e-11 x 4 and 1 fragmentation grenade to get the surge attack. is that consider a legal attack when you look at this rule ( i mean i would rather roll all frags but with death troopers coming out they get more white dice thrown then black)

Yes, that is exactly what I posted above, and what the rule says. You pick per miniature, not per miniature "type".

If the Heavy weapon is used as another attack pool against another defender unit does it still use the range found from its unit leader to that defender or should you measure from the Heavy weapon?
We have been doing the latter.

Range is only measured from the unit leader when
performing an attack, or if the ability or game effect
explicitly states it is

page 46 of the rule book

A little more specifically, from the Attack article in the RRG: "To choose a weapon, the attacker must meet all requirements indicated by that weapon’s keywords, and that weapon’s range must include the range of the attack, as determined from the attacker’s unit leader to the closest mini of the defender."

So you have been doing it the wrong way 😥

basically for a fully kitted stormie squad

6 stormtroopers, choose 6 weapons:

they carry:

1 heavy weapon

6 blasters

whole buncha grenades

As others have said, Range between units for an attack is always determined from the unit leader to the closest model in the target unit(s).

The only time range is measured from individual models is for Limited Visibility since Line of Sight is determined on a per model basis.

this works better for units like IRG/Wookies/Fleets as they role multiple dice per individual mini. in example with fleet at range 1 8 white dice, 2 red dice (scatter) and 1 red dice (frag) with pierce 1 and surge to crits instead of hits. or add in a concussion to always ignore cover :-D.
