[Updated 1ST JUNE 2019] Custom NPC Cards - The Clone Wars

By Kualan, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Okay, back home and ready to start making more cards! I'm going to try to keep each update grouped under an overall 'theme' whenever possible.

So for today's cards, here's 9 stat blocks from the Battle of Mon Calamari:

Another batch - this one's theme is "Insurrection On Onderon":

Does the 3 x 3 sheet format work for people, or would individual images be more convenient?

Today's cards are themed around planetary intrigues on Kamino and Pantora respectively:

Today's sheet features the central characters of the Zillo Beast Crisis alongside some additional Scum & Villainy cards. Credit for the Zillo Beast stats go to http://www.d20radio.com/ :

Happy new year folks - today's cards features NPC types from the planets Naboo and Quarzite;

great work there....especially finding the proper picture and proper stats

well the people who intend to print them would want the sheet, while the ones browsing them on their computer would most likely prefer individual page....but it works also as a sheet...

Fair enough, when I next update the front page I'll make sure the cards are available in both formats. Probably be sometime next week when the next sheets are ready - got one more post-Christmas victory lap of family visits to do.

So, with Rise of the Separatists having finally shipped I thought it would be a good time to revisit this project.

I was very pleased with the book but was surprised by the lower number of adversaries compared to Dawn Of Rebellion. In particular, as someone who runs a game where the PCs have opted to take up the Separatist cause, I was hoping for some "generic" Clone Wars-era Jedi stats to field in the armies of the Republic. So I decided to make up some of my own, using Obi-Wan and Anakin's stat blocks as a guideline for power level.

Here's three Clone Wars-era Jedi you can use in your games, let me know what you think. Do these "feel right"?

[EDIT: See next post]

Edited by Kualan

After a day to reflect on my previous attempt at "generic" Jedi, I decided I made them just a tad too weak. Even in a Clone Wars game, where Jedi have a much higher chance of being encountered, they need to feel decently powered - and I hesitate to say it, but I think FFG may have made Anakin a little on the weak side for the Chosen One so he might not be the best template to draw from.

Here's some revised versions of the General, Knight and Padawan templates, alongside their new colleague - the Jedi Ace:

Overwall I gave the General/Knight some higher base characteristics, with a couple of 4s each - and I made the Padawan a weaker Nemesis rather than a stronger Rival (needs the Strain).

These are great. Where did you get the art for them?

A lot of Google-fu, sources like Artstation and Pinterest are the most common. Sometimes I have to composite my own in Photoshop, or otherwise add some effects/filters to give photo-sourced images that 'artistic' look.

I come bearing new sheets featuring many of the adversaries given in Rise Of The Separatists, in addition to a few of my own creation:

I have yet to find a good combination of effects and filters to do that nearly as well as you do.

/tips hat

Finished up the last of the official stats given in Rise Of The Separatists - I am also working on a big list of individual Jedi from the era - members of the Council, more generic templates (Master/Youngling/etc) and others:

These are pretty awesome man, thank you!

Update 19th May:

The Clone Wars game that I run skipped this weekend so I spent the time I would have spent GMing working on this project instead - as such this weekend brings a HUGE update.

There are now over 153 adversaries statted out from the Clone Wars era, and I have revamped the first post with links to all the 3x3 sheets and a dropbox link to all the individual images too so you can pick and choose what you like.

These now includes characters that have not been posted before including Maul, Savage Opress and Palpatine .

The big additions this week however are no less than 36 stat blocks for members of the Jedi Order . This includes both generic templates like those posted previously as well as cards for individual prominent members like Kit Fisto, Plo Koon or Aayla Secura. If they are a Jedi and appeared in the Clone Wars TV show, chances are high they have their own stat block in the below - the only notable exception is Ahsoka Tano, who we know we will be getting in Collapse Of The Republic so I have held off until:

Thoughts always welcome, and I hope you guys can bring some of these characters to your games.

Awesome work @Kualan , incredibly professional design and some very good stats. I don't suppose you could do one for one of my favourite characters from the Clone Wars comics, Sora Bulq? Thanks!

Thanks for the comments! Funnily enough, Sora Bulq is on my to-do list along with a couple of others from the Legends comics like T'ra Saa but I was struggling to find decent artwork for them. I want to avoid using comic book-style art (as in heavy ink outlines) wherever possible for the sake of consistency, but maybe I'll be able to throw something together in Photoshop.

Further to my previous post, I managed to find an image that I could Photoshop into an art-style more consistent with the other cards, here you go!

Oh now that's awesome! Thanks so much @Kualan !

My pleasure, happy to take more Clone Wars-era requests if people have them.

It's possible that I missed him, but I didn't see Derrown among the bounty hunters.

First off, Kualan, great job with these cards. They look great and seem pretty well done in terms of representing the characters.

I kind of wish there was some type of symbol or text pointing out which ones are 'official' statblocks and which ones are 'homebrew'.

I caught a few possible errors and wanted to report them so you can make the cards the best they can be. Card names are in bold. In no particular order:

  1. Barriss Offee 's Lightsaber dice pool on the left is correctly written as YYG and on the right it is incorrectly written as YYY.
  2. On Death Watch Soldiers on the left hand side there is an erroneous 2 written after Vigilance. It is not reflected in their dice pool, and they're a minion group anyway and thusly do not possess ranks in skills.
  3. New Mandalorian Cadet has Ranged (Light 2) and an Agility of 2, but their dice pool shows as YG instead of YY.
  4. General Grievous 's Lightsaber dice pool is incorrect in the left column (YYYG), it should match the right column where it is YYYYG.
  5. Savage Opress 's Lightsaber dice pool is YYYYG on the left and YYYYY on the right. It should be YYYYG in both places.
  6. Cad Bane 's Wrist Grappling Hook is listed as YYYG when it should match his other Ranged (Light) dice pools as YYYYG.
  7. C-21 Highsinger has his dice pool for Brawl on the left column as YYY when it should be YYYG.
  8. Admiral Tarkin has an Intellect of 4. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin's official statblock is in Dawn of Rebellion and he has an Intellect of 3. It probably aught to match up with the official statblock being that Dawn of Rebellion takes place after the Clone Wars and I doubt Tarkin is intended to lose a point of Intellect.
  9. Dug Warrior is listed as a Nemesis when it should be listed as a Minion.
  10. Naboo Captain on the left column his Ranged (Light) dice pool is listed as YYG, on the right column it is incorrectly listed as GG.
  11. The Jedi Temple Guard uses a Lightsaber Pike with Unwieldy 3, yet they only have an Agility of 2. They would need a Agility of 3 to wield the weapon properly.
  12. Not necessarily a huge deal, but a lot of different cards have soak higher than their brawl with no armor or appropriate talent listed to increase soak.

Now I have a nitpick or two: (feel free to disregard these ones if you want, just thought I'd attempt to provoke discussion)

  1. Clone Captain has Br 3, Ag 3, Int 3, Cun 2, Will 3, Pr 3. Captain Rex in Dawn of Rebellion has Br 3, Ag 2, Int 2, Cun 4, Will 3, Pr 3. I could see Rex possibly losing a point of Agility in the Rebels time-frame, he does end up looking a little dumpy, but it seems odd to me that an unnamed Clone Captain would have a point higher Intellect. Maybe trade that point of Intellect for a point of Cunning, leaving Clone Captain with Br 3, Ag 3, Int 2, Cun 3, Will 3, Pr 3.
  2. Many of the Jedi Lightsabers stats have strange minor inconsistencies between them (damage value, etc), was that intentional?
  3. It seemed a little odd to me that a generic Jedi Padawan and the Jedi Temple Guard both have YYG for their Lightsaber dice pool. Jedi Padawan also has adversary 2 against Jedi Temple Guard's adversary 1. The Jedi Padawan also has the improved version of both Parry and Reflect with the Jedi Temple Guard having the 'non-improved'. Basically what I'm getting at is it seems a little odd. Either this is a pretty **** experienced Padawan or the Jedi Temple Guards maybe leave a little to be desired. Maybe knock Jedi Padawan's Br to 2, giving them a Lightsaber Pool of YY? Almost all of the named important Jedi Masters only have YYY in comparison.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this, and once again, great job!

I'd forgotten about Derrown, I'll see what I can knock up for him.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this, and once again, great job!

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to go through the cards so thoroughly - those errors are fantastic catches and I can get them fixed ASAP. Particularly embarrassed by the Tarkin one as I would have literally copied that from my copy of the book! And weirdly enough, the Temple Guard is statted correctly as per Nexus Of Power - I don't know if that means the intention is that they can't wield their own pikes to full effectiveness (seems unlikely) or if a typo in the official stats. I'll leave it as it is for now to keep it in like with the official stats.

Regarding the soak/brawn discrepancies - some of these are deliberate due to print space on the cards. I believe in most cases where this has occurred the missing soak value should be no more than 2 - in these cases assume the Soak value is correct and that the character is wearing nothing more than regular clothing/armor. Where characters have armor with special qualities (higher soak, defense, etc) it should be on the card - but again, let me know if there's any discrepancies with that rule of thumb.

For your other points:

1. Clone Captain is statted as they appear in Rise Of The Separatists - can't speak for the Intellect disparity but I suspect we'll see a CW-era Rex in the next CW book (since we're getting Anakin and Ahsoka there) and it'll be interesting to see how he compares to the "standard" captain.

2. The various Jedi have different levels of a Basic Lightsaber + Ilum Crystal + Mods. Very few (if any?) have a fully modded Ilum Crystal, and the choices are supposed to represent that particular Jedi's priorities. Have they gone for the +1 Damage mods, the +1 Vicious, the -1 Crit mod, etc.

3. I'm pleased to say I had already caught the OP Padawan and have already "nerfed" it very much in line with your observations - basically removed the Improved versions of Parry/Reflect, upped their saber Crit back to 2, and took away one rank of Adversary (this already brings them in line with Rebels-era Ahsoka and Kanan, who both ended their official Jedi careers at Padawan level). This'll be in my next update.

Thanks again for the above - very very helpful and keep 'em coming if you find more.

Didn't get to look again for long but found these two things:

  1. Aqua Battle Droid has brawn 3 and a soak of 7 with no armor or anything listed. Not the end of the world, but thought I'd include it.
  2. LM-432 Crab Droid should have a soak of 8, WT of 21 and M/R Defense of 1/1 as per Rise of the Separatists.

Jeez, looks like I just missed that entire row of values on the Crab Droid! Fixed.

I've added "Reinforced Chassis: Soak 3" to the Aqua Droid and brought the Soak down from 7 to 6 to bring it in line with the official B2 Droid.

Thanks again, both will be in the next update.
