CAMPAIGN UPDATE

*****

A wind unlike any other whirled forth through broken stone ruins of a once great city. The bones and dust of the long dead quivered with a brief flicker of life as the skies darkened. Across the world Crows and Ravens cried out and soothsayers divined their meaning, the Apocalypse was immanent and would drive those in its presences to the darkest of deeds...

While not as scheduled as I would normally like, this weekend witnessed another Campaign and Demonstration event. After briefly visiting Supanova (a local pop culture con) I rocked on up to my usual haunt and was quickly swamped not only by my regular players but the last groups of onlookers checking out my assembled collection and the games being played.

Over the course of the weekend four Campaign matches were played as well as a friendly and a couple of Demonstrations, the last of which was for some visitors from Canada who I hope will get into the game once they return home.

*****

Match 1: 300 Levels (Jordan v Sen)
The Azur Alliance verses Samael
Special Battle: Unholy Atmosphere

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Arkeid, Maximo Ligori and Les Jaeger
Samael Forces: Konosuke, Fallen Angel Ophiel, Shinigami Ayl, Dark Cheshire, Janiel and Momiji

Jordan started off the campaigning by using his accumulated knowledge to force Sen into a confrontation on his own terms. After learning of the Scenario Sen gambled on including Janiel in his team and managed to avoid loosing her to the oppressive darkness of the battlefield, unfortunately Konosuke was not so lucky as the Daemon-creatures power and unholy life was ripped from it on the very first turn of the game.

Coop.jpg

The loss of Konosuke was followed by a steady stream of Samael characters from more mundane means until time ran out.

Azur Score: 260
Samael Score: 70

Match 2: 150 levels (Ayo v Sen)
The Church Verses Samael
Special Battle: Ruins of Americh

Church Forces: Marchosis, Saint Hazael, Alius (35)
Samael Forces: Nahimana, Cheshire, Momiji

Making his debut is Ayo fielding a Church team. To get his game rolling Ayo fought Sen in a small but vicious 150 point game.

AvS.jpg

Like most matches this size the melee was joined quickly and Marchosis began to dominate at an early stage, his ability to gain strength from his opponents defeat saw Sen taken down in short order.

Church Score: 95
Samael Score: 0

Match 3: 300 levels (Sen v Kyris)
Samael Verses The Sacred Holy Empire of Abel
Special Battle: Come the Apocalypse

Samael Forces: Nahimana, Dark Cheshire, Momiji, Konosuke, Janiel, Fallen Angel Ophiel
Empire Forces: Yuri Garvis Olsen, Daniella Meris, Vayl, Samiel, Iosara, Lilian Virgil

As can be expected of a Control Match the heaviest fighting was around the central objective, in this case a proverbial Sword of Damocles. Which Samael forces poured into the immediate area the Empire held back a little and the first few turns passed with both sides chipping away with ranged attacks before making an attempt to get stuck into things.

Apoc1.jpg

By the time the game ended only two Empire warriors had taken and significant damage but the game was carried by Samael with neither side choosing to unleash the powers of rage and slaughter possessed by the weapon.

Apoc2.jpg

Samael Score: 140 (Special Reward – Protection)
Empire Score: 0

Match 4: 300 levels (Sen v Jordan)
Samael Verses The Azur Alliance
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Samael Forces: Nahimana, Dark Cheshire, Janiel, Konosuke, Shinigami Ayl, Fallen Angel Ophiel
Abomination: Neo-Ligori

In a mirror of the match that began the weekend it was concluded by Sen who used his accumulated experience as Jordan had earlier to hunt down and attack one of the twisted entities spawned by the Dark Pillars.

Canada.jpg

While this match was being fought and resolved in record time in the background I ran the Canadian visitors through a three player Demo.

Samael Score: 0 (Special Reward – Beyond Reality)
Azur Score: 75

Hey Raith!

Correction to the result, Samael actually snatched this one. :P

After Marchosias dispatched Nahimana and Dark Cheshire, he launched a berzerk assault on Momiji. Slashing through the fox ninja's defenses, a bloodied and furious Marchosias surveyed his victim's body... only to find a stump of wood with a fox mask on it. Receiving a charge from the sneaky ninja, an enraged Marchosias was unable to defend himself and was taken out.

While amazing when berzerked, Marchosias is really vulnerable...

Can't wait for the next campaign day!

PS

Does unsummoned Summons count as being knocked out for victory points purposes?

Hmm, I must have recorded the points down properly... oh well i'll alter them after the next Campaign Day.

And yes Unsummoned Summons still count for Victory Points, look at the summoner card and they have a + sign after thier level cost, basically the summon is added onto their points.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

*****

The five great pillars of black shivered in uniform and great arcs of eldritch lightning leapt across the interminable distances between them over and over. The abominations that had become associated with the mysterious objects continued to pour forth to harass those trying to seek some answer to their quest...

Over this past weekend and in a special “By-Popular-Demand” day the previous Sunday, the campaign for Dark is the Fallen Sky continued with great enthusiasm. So much so that it looks like the campaign will now be moving into the final stretch with a number of people seemingly intent upon completing their missions! It’s taken a bit longer than I thought but the campaign has shaped up nicely.

*****

Sunday, May 1st

Match 1: 300 Levels (Jordan v Isaac)
The Azur Alliance verses Samael
Special Battle: Unholy Atmosphere

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Arkeid, Maximo Ligori and Les Jaeger
Samael Forces: Konosuke, Fallen Angel Dinah, Nahimana, Dark Cheshire, Janiel and Momiji

Once again the Azur Alliance made use of its past explorations to locate information relating to the Dark Pillars, alas the information they possessed seemed only to lead the Alliance into a fight with Samael where the odds where completely against them and the agents of Gaul fell back in a complete rout.

1.jpg

Azur Score: 0
Samael Score: 210

Match 2: 300 levels (Mecha v Ayo)
Wissenscraft verses The Church
Special Battle: The Lightless Halls

Wissenscraft Forces: Sophia Ilmora, Cordelia Roselind, Hiro, Rayne, Lorenzo Cortez, XII
Church Forces: Justina, Damien, MArchosias, Saint Hazael, Holy Soldier Alius (35), 2x Samael Agents (30ea.)

This battle was a decisive victory for Wissenscraft and garnered them much knowledge for their quests as they swiftly took control of the ancient ruins and plundered it for all its worth despite the valiant Church counter attack headed by an enraged Marchosias

2.jpg

Wissenscraft Score: 1295
Church Score: 0

Saturday May 7th and Sunday May 8th

Match 3: 300 Levels (Jordan v Mecha)
The Azur Alliance verses Wissenscraft
Special Battle: Stronghold

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Arkeid, The Condemned Lovers, The Colonel, Kirsten, Kyler
Wissenscraft Forces: Goethia (With Mauser), Feng Yi, Sophia Ilmora, Rayne, Lorenzo Cortez, XII

Lucanor’s agents, having cooly analyzed the task before them had determined that to achieve complete control of the Pillars would require the acquisition of a base from which to launch repeated operations. Gathering a strike force XII set out to lay claim to a set of ruins located upon the side of a mountain. Learning of this action the spies of the Alliance informed Arkeid who attempted to deny Wissenscraft’s action and take the stronghold for her master.

The battle was fierce and the Azur forces soon found themselves overstretched and unable to dislodge the Crows who gained the high ground, soon they capitulated the stronghold though ultimately casualties where light on both sides.

3.jpg

Azur Score: 25
Wissenscraft Score: 95

Match 4: 200 Levels (Ayo v Sen)
The Church verses Samael
Special Scenario: The Dark Forest

Church Forces: Marchosias, Damien, Saint Hazael, Holy Soldier Alius (35)
Samael Forces: Nahimana, Shinigami Ayl, Dark Cheshire, Momiji

Amid ruins buried in the heart of a dank forest the forces of the Church crossed blades with Samael. In a mighty conflict the Executioner tried to exterminate the abominable supernatural life before him but his victory was cut short with the forces of Samael holding out over their opponents in a swirling melee atop a small hillock.

4.jpg

Church Score: 125
Samael Score: 195

In the aftermath the forces of Samael tapped into the dark energies of the forest an unleashed a curse upon a most hated foe named thusly as Reinhold

Match 5: 150 Levels (Ayo v Mecha)
The Church verses Wissenscraft

Church Forces: Saint Hazael, Holy Soldier Alius (35), Justina
Wissenscraft Forces: Celia, Lorenzo Cortez, Hiro

Beneath a broken wall a small scouting force from the Church clashed with skirmishers from Wissenscraft. While each side tested the defenses of the other, the day swung to Wissenscraft.

5.jpg

Church Score: 50
Wissenscraft Score: 75

Match 6: 300 Levels (Jordan v Sen)
The Azur Alliance verses Samael

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Arkeid, Elhaim, The Colonel, Kirsten, Kyler, Maximo Ligori
Samael Forces: Dark Cheshire, Konosuke, Fallen Angel Ophiel, Nahimana, Momiji, Janiel

With the repeated failure of the Azur forces hunting after answers gaul ordered a swift reorganization of his dedicated forces. The change was immediate as the Alliances next conflict with Samael was a clear victory.

Azur Score: 295
Samael Score: 210

Match 7: 250 Levels (Kyris v Sen)
The Sacred Holy Empire of Abel verses Samael
Special Scenario: Destined Conflict

Empire Forces: Yuri Garvis Olsen, Samiel, Daniella Meris, Vayl, Lilian Virgil
Samael Forces: Bael, Shinigami Ayl, Fallen Angel Ophiel, Nahimana, Janiel, Ignis (20)

Destiny is a strange mistress, on this day the forces of the Empire and samael found themselves exploring a wooded ruin but rather than face each other in conflict they kept to their separate searches without a single incident

6.jpg

(This match was hilarious, both teams simply ignored the other and raced to the opposite sides with victory going to the initiative winner in the fourth turn)

Empire Score: 235
Samael Score: 215

Samael verses Neo-Abomination
Special Scenario: Neo-Abomination

Samael Forces: Nahimana, Konosuke, Dark Cheshire, Bael, Momiji, Fallen Angel Dinah
Neo-Abomination: Fallen Angel Ophiel

Yet another abomination stumbled into the world and the forces of Samael marched forth to meet it. Nahimana was the first to step into combat in an effort to shield Bael from the creature. While Nahimana fell, Dark Cheshire stepped forward and took revenge unleashing a devastating barrage of attacks thanks to Summun and destroyed the creature in short order.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

*****

Rayne let the haft of her war-scythe slide through her gloved fingers, adjusting her grip. With the weighty weapon settled properly she gazed across the glade. Separated from the rest of her companions she had not expected to meet any one else so deep in the woods and yet there stood a figure before her, weapon drawn and at the ready...

A plethora of games where run over this past weekend, eleven in total with 6 on Saturday and the remained on Sunday. The battles were intense, with several of the larger matches managing to conclude in record time. Other matches where small skirmishes and I even managed to get in a demonstration and speak to a few onlookers and others that seemed interested in picking up the game.

With so many games and a lack of time this will be another relatively brief report.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE
After Action Report

*****

The sky boiled with violent black clouds, the wind held a cutting chill and threatened a driving rain. Into the gloom strode a figure cloaked in shadow and possessed of a cunning that few could withstand. The figures robes swirled in a breeze but not that raised by the roaring winds. Aizen swept his gaze over the agents of the alliance gathered before him, with nary a word he strode forth towards the waiting battle...

The action was intense over what has become the second last session of this Campaign, several participants now sit on four victories apiece and at the next weekend will receive one final chance to use Seek New Horizons and lay claim to their fifth victory, then in a special decider the victor of the campaign will become clear.

In amongst all of the campaign battles I managed to get in a fairly intense Light v Dark demo and I think I may have scored a new convert to the game, hopefully we’ll see them in the future, maybe for the next campaign? There was also a small friendly 150 level match that rounded out the weekend nicely.

01.jpg

For all those thinking of utilizing the rules for this Campaign once this is finished I will be giving the rules a bit of a rewrite after having seen what worked and what didn’t do so well for us so they should be nice and polished for anyone else to use.

*****

Match 1: 300 Levels (Sen v Mecha)
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Samael Forces: Fallen Angel Dinah, jnaiel, Bael, Konosuke, Dark Cheshire, Nahimana

Match 2: 300 Levels (Mecha v Jordan)
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Match 3: 300 Levels (Jordan v Sen)
Azur Alliance verses Samael
Special Battle: Come the Apocalypse

Azur Forces: Les Jaeger, Maximo, Aizen
Samael Forces: Fallen Angel Dinah, Janiel, Momiji, Konosuke, Dark Cheshire, Nahimana

While the skes above turned black and red with shadow and flame the agents of the Alliance and the hidden creatures of the world did battle. Admits the conflict Ligori discovered first hand what entering a pillar was like as the big man was thrown directly through one, the surface of the pillar rippled and swallowed the fighter before vomiting him out the other side to stumble headlong into a wall.

Wissenscraft Forces: Assault Team, Hiro, Sophia Ilmora, Cordelia

Following the unexpected turmoil of the previous battle at one of the black pillars the Azur forces were ready to continue their mission only the Wissenscraft forces arrayed at them had a chance to stop them but the Alliance proved to strong.

Match 5: 300 Levels (Isaac v Mecha)
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Samael Forces: Nahimana, Fallen Angel Dinah, Dark Cheshire, Konosuke, Janiel, Momiji

Around and around the members of Samael tried to bring their opponent to bear but the Abomination was to smart and cunning, eventually the Fallen Angel ordered a halt to the pursuit and the creature fled.

Final Score: No Result

Match 6: 200 Levels (Andrew v Jordan)
The Sacred Holy Empire verses The Azur Alliance
Special Battle: Outside Albidion

Empire Forces: Lilian Virgil, Erika, Claire, Daniella Meris

Clustered together for mutual support and protection the forces of the Empire closed with their rebellious cousins. While early in the battle the Azur forces laid claim to the high ground they soon left their position to join the battle at hand. Despite all the skills of those present the overwatching agents of the Church stood quietly by, their was to be no heresy of magic in such a holy place.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

CONCLUSION

Dark is the Fallen Sky

After Action Report

*****

...cracks of light rippled over the surface of the pillar like lightning. One moment everything had been as before as the blood soaked Abominations towered over the assembled Wissenscraft and Samael forces. With a shudder the pillar shattered falling in half with a terrible moan as a blast of grave chilled air swept out to blanket the land.

Its taken a little more time than originally planned though not too many more weekends than I had thought for a conclusion to finally be reached in Dark is the Fallen Sky, and what a conclusion! Following a short game to get some final points we had three players all paused to make a run for the final mission of their separate tasks, Mecha (Wissenscraft), sen (Samael) and Jordan (Azur). All of them had struggled with their missions, for Sen and Meha they felt the pain through their regular missions while Jordan scraped through his goals. In the end while fighting off the other two Jordan claimed victory using a slightly modified scoring system to take into account Victory Points and the number of turns each team took in thier final match.

Winner.jpg

For his efforts Jordan won a LE Khaine, a $50 Gift Voucher and his choice of an "As yet to be decided" Advantage Card.

*****

Match 1: 300 Levels (Jordn v Mecha)
Azur Alliance verses Wissenscraft
Special Battle: The Wake

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Aizen, Maximo Ligori, Les Jaeger
Wissenscraft Forces: Assault Team, Hiro, Khaine D'Lacreu, Cordellia Rosalind

The Azur forces proceeded straight forward, their mission, to take a specific enemy amungst their opponents. Wissenscraft headed up onto a short ruined wall to take firing positions. Ligori and Kyler moved out n front the big warrior hoping to draw fire and the assassin using his stealth to keep unseen.

001.jpg

Despite their efforts Wissenscraft broke through the heavy combatants of the Alliance and managed to sneak away to safety.

Azur Score: 135
Wissenscraft Score: Inspiration - Command Presence

Match 2: 300 Levels (Mecha v Jordan)
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Wissenscraft Forces: Assault Team, Hiro, Goethis (x/Mauser), Sophia Ilmora
Neo-Abomination: Aizen

The Pillar had crashed amid a series of sprawling ruins that forced the leader of Wissenscraft to break up his team into a pair of smaller forces.

003.jpg

While seeming like a good strategy their opponent was more than eager to close with the smaller groups and despite the thunderous attacks from Lorenzo and Hiro knocking the abomination about the field it proceeded to rip apart its opponents completely.

004.jpg

Abomination Score: Inspiration - Distraction

Match 3: 300 Levels (Sen v Jordan)
Special Battle: Neo-Abomination

Samael Forces: Fallen Angel Dinah, Janiel, Momiji, Konosuke, Dark Cheshire, Nahimana
Neo-Abomination: Aizen

In some form of strange synchronicity the Black Pillar soon spat out the same Abomination to face its enemies in another battle. The change in terrain and a more coordinated assault by the agents of Samael keep the Abomination back and forced it to constantly fall away from conflict and use its dark powers to cloak its form and even adopt the powers of those previously slain.

005.jpg

After a final assault by the Abomination, Samael was finally able to bring its heavy hitters to bare and scrape in a victory for their forces.

006.jpg

Samael Score: Special Result (Victory after 9 turns)

Match 4: 300 Levels (Jordan v Mecha)
The Azur Alliance versus Wissenscraft
Special Battle: Unholy Atmosphere

Azur Forces: High Arbiter Aizen, Les Jaeger, Maximo Ligori
Wissenscraft Forces: Assault Team, Hiro, Sophia Ilmora, Goethia (w/Mauser)

For what was sure to be the very last match and with Sunday afternoon quickly dying both teams pulled out all the stops employing all their accumulated Inspirations and any excess Exploration points. Jordan marked in battle with 3x A Good Nights Sleep, 1x Acrobatics Training (for Maximo), Kirsten acting a Distraction for the Wissenscraft men while enacting her Draconic pact while Maximo used the reward Energy Break.

Having suffered a number of significant downs in the previous battle Mecha revived his men with Inspiration rewards and counted his blessings as the Beryl's Mikael and Uriel provided their Marks for his cause.

007.jpg

Dark clouds of energy sapped the life from the very air as the Alliance took to their field. Their opponents battered from earlier confrontations rallied and called upon the hidden Beryl's for help but quickly found themselves at a disadvantage as Lorenzo succumbed to the unholy atmosphere and the doom emanating from the Pillar.

008.jpg

Under the cloak of clouds Aizen waded into the enemy and brought his talents to the fore crushing his opponents in short order, enough to secure the Pillar for the Alliance to study at their leisure and finally determine a way to either harness their corrupting power or to prevent them from falling into other hands.

Final Score: Azur Victory (after 6 turns)

Finally, while not related to the campaign during the afternoon on the second day I actually got to play a match.

Empire (Samiel, Odin, Cerberos Division, Grevier)
verses
Black Sun (Promethia, Styx, 3x Type 5, Raziel, Clover, Arkham)

It was an awesome little match while it lasted, I made an early mistake and didn't deploy Daniella with a clear enough line of sight so she had to run away from Clover, effectively skipping a turn of shooting, but she did manage to take down a Type 5 and the exploding fun began. Samiel and Grevier jumped into the fight with Raziel, Arkhamm the remaining Type 5's and Clover. Using power core kept Samiel alive for a little but the detonations from the Type 5's and Arkham's attacks did a lot of damage to everyone, except Odin who waded into the brawl and Samiel died completely. At the point the game was called the overwhelming melee skill of the Empire seemed to have the upper hand...

For now the campaigning is over but soon their will be a new campaign beginning. For those who have been keeping track of this thread thanks! I know some of you are wanting to use the rules from this campaign, in the next couple of weeks I will be reviewing the rules with all the little clarrifications, spelling corrections, oversights and odd and ends I've missed to represent a nice rounded out set for use by others, their wont be much of a change, though the Abomination will be getting its own set of stats!

For anyone in the Melbourne (Australia) area in the meantime, check out my Demo thread to see if anything is happening, this coming weekend I'm having a special little party for those who joined the campaign and anyone else who wants to come along. Details will appear in the other thread.

Thanks for reading!
