Compulsory vs Engaged Units vs Emplacement Troopers

By Podfrey, in Rules

Page 23 of the v1.2.0 (end Nov 2018) states:

Troopers that are engaged cannot be displaced by a compulsory move. If a repulsor vehicle's final position after performing a compulsory move would overlap an engaged trooper, it must perform a partial move instead.

Q1: is this partial move a partial move that takes damage? (Rules suggest it is, I could see the argument why, ie short range fire fight).

Page 30 states:

Another unit cannot end a compulsory move overlapping an emplacement trooper.

Q2: If, due to other factors such as Terrain, a speeder bike could not make a compulsory move without ending on Terrain or an Emplacement Trooper, does it then make a partial move and take damage as per Compulsory move rule on page 22? (Rules suggest it does, common sense says otherwise, ie if you can displace Troopers, why would less Troopers manning a static weapon cause you to stop?)

Thanks

Best advice I can give you is not to try to apply common sense or thematic justifications to your games - follow the text of the rules. In both cases, there's really no question - Compulsory Move says "To perform a compulsory move, the unit performs a full move at its maximum speed. If it cannot do so...it can perform a partial move instead...the unit suffers a number of wounds equal to its maximum speed."

Straightforward, in both cases it takes a partial move and the corresponding damage.

Thanks! I feared it might be. Oh well, time to consign the speeder bikes to reserves then..... 😞
