Melee and engaged units

By enekolob, in Rules

This came across yesterday during a game.

Luke and troopers engaged in melee.

Then 1 rebel commandos mini scaping from Boba Fett got into melee with them.

-Q1 Is rebel commando engaged(3rd unit added to the melee) and for this reason is he free from any range attack from Boba Fett?

After that, Boba came to the melee(looking for his bounty) and finish his activation too .

-Q2 Is boba engaged or is he only in melee combat??? (There were 4 different units involved in the melee attack).

At the end Luke is activated, his first action was a melee attack to the engaged troopers(1st action), he defeated them...

-After defeating them :

Q3 can Luke move(2nd action) getting contact with boba Fett, and perform his extra melee attack to boba?

Thanks !!!

1. Yes the commandos are engaged and safe from ranged attacks.

2. Boba would be considered engaged with whichever unit he is actually touching. So you probably have a situation where Luke is engaged with troopers; commandos engaged with troopers and Boba; Boba engaged with commandos. (I’m imagining that Luke is completely surrounded by the troopers, so no room for Boba to get in there with Luke.)

3. You can only perform 1 attack action per activation. In this example, Luke cannot use Charge because he already did an attack action.

The only way Luke can do 2 attacks is if you played Son of Skywalker this round. However, the card requires that the second attack is immediately after the first. So your example would still not be legal because you’re trying to do a move in between the 2 attacks.

Thanks

I've attached the final scene in the previous comment.

I thought that you can move and the use the keyword "Charge"because is free melee attack.

Thanks again.

Charge gives you a free “attack action”, not a free “attack” (I believe this distinction is the single thing that causes the most confusion for new players because it’s very subtle). It doesn’t matter if a particular action is free or not, you can still only do it once per activation.

From page 12 under Actions:

Quote

If a game effect provides a unit with a free action of a certain
type, such as a free attack action, performing that free action
does not count against that unit’s two actions per activation,
but is considered an action for the purposes of game effects
and therefore does not allow a unit to perform the same
non-move action more than once during its activation.

Thank you @nashjaee . So , I suppose that is the same for snowtroopers. Their keyword steady doesn't allow them to attack , move , and then make a range attack.

I was playing in the wrong way.

The important word you must take into account as @nashjaee said is " action ". By the rules you cannot make the same action twice during an activation except for moves. Charge and Steady for example lets you perform a free attack action after moving, but if you look at the command card "Son of Skywalker" or Leia's Coordinated Bombardement", you'll see that they doesn't use the word action after attack, so you can make an attack action during your activation and then make those attacks without restriction.

although those attacks are with restriction also, as per the cards (leia and veers at the end of activation and ljke gets his extra attack when he makes his normal attack)
