Inspire X, how many units?

By YuriPanzer, in Rules

Hi there!

I though I had it clear, but just wanted to be sure about Inspire X. Let's check the RRG:

Quote

INSPIRE X (UNIT KEYWORD)

After a unit with the inspire x keyword performs its “Rally” step, remove a total of up to x suppression tokens from other friendly units at range 1–2.

This means that ALL units at range 1-2 remove X supression tokens?

Thanks dudes!

No it doesn’t mean you get to remove suppression from all units in range 1-2.

For example I had inspire 2 And I had to friendly Units in range. I get to pick which one removes 2 or I could split it up and remove 1 from each.

Did That answer your question. ?

Makes sense @LordBubba Thank you! ?

You’re welcome man. ?

including they're own unit? I'm just forward thinking of the upgrade leader coming out in Jan. that you can put into a unit. They gain +1 courage and Inspire 1.

It says other unit on the inspire ability, so you cant use it on the unit with the ability.

I thought there was something there

Why isn't it all units?

Because it would be way over powering.

So there isn't a rule on this then?

Because if you could remove say 2 suppression from each unit at range 1-2 it’s just in my mind I think that is too powerful.

Okey then I wait for official ruiling

There is indeed a rule. Page 34:

Quote

After a unit with the inspire x keyword performs its “Rally”
step, remove a total of up to x suppression tokens from other
friendly units at range 1–2.

The important word is “total”. If there are 3 units in range and you remove 1 from each, you have removed a total of 3. Which, in Leia’s case, is more than the X value of Inspire.

But only a total of 1 per unit. You might be right however it needs clarification IMO

The rule is not “total per unit” (it wouldn’t even make sense to call that a total, really). It’s just “total”. This is actually pretty clear.

You’re absolutely right. great job. ?

Total from units. It could be maximum of 2 per unit

I think that @nashjaee is completelly right here.

Total means total. There's no clarification needed here.

My entire local playgroup plays with 2 from each unit so I say we need some clarification ☺️

feel free to ask away but compare inspire

After a unit with the inspire x keyword performs its “Rally” step, remove a total of up to x suppression tokens from other friendly units at range 1–2.

with darth vaders command card Master of Evil

When Darth Vader activates EACH enemy trooper unit in range gains 3 suppression tokens.

For it to work the way you say Inspire would have to say

After a unit with the inspire x keyword performs its “Rally” step, each friendly trooper unit at range 1-2 remove a total of up to x suppression tokens (the keyword being each)

I don't mean to sound insulting, but it sounds like they all need to follow the grammar more closely. This can happen with groupthink, where someone puts forth a notion and the others agree to it without taking the time to look critically - especially if one person has been teaching the rest of you how to play.

"A total" of something means all of that added together. For it to work the way you say your local group plays, the card would say "remove up to X suppression tokens from all other friendly units" or "remove X suppression tokens from each other friendly unit." "Remove a total" means that each token you remove, regardless from which unit, counts toward your total. That's not requiring clarification, it's the way the words work.

If you go to the grocery store and the cashier tells you your total is $75, that doesn't mean you're paying seventy-five dollars for every item in your cart.
