Unit Leader Suffering Wounds

By SirCormac, in Rules

Hello,

So the other night I was playing a game with someone, and I had a Sniper team, and my non-Sniper unit was behind LOS blocking cover, but my sniper wasn't. He got shot at an killed. I have heard this is called 'Corner Peeking'. Now, I thought the unit leadership would pass to the other unit, but my opponent was adamant that it did not, and thus the Sniper was 'dead'. I looked in the rules and all it says is:

"The unit leader cannot be chosen to suffer wounds unless it is the only mini in the unit that is in line of sight of the attack, if it is the only wounded mini in the unit,or if it is the last mini in the unit."

This is from page 51. It doesn't say anything about replacing the unit leader here, but I could swear that somewhere in the rules it says you make a new leader and change the models. Please help!

Nevermind, found it in the Learn to play:

"This can create a situation in which a

unit leader suffers wounds and is defeated while other minis in

the unit are still on the battlefield. If this happens, one of the

minis that is still on the battlefield is promoted and becomes

the new unit leader—the player swaps that mini with the unit

leader mini."

It’s also on page 25 of the RRG, if you don’t want to reference the Learn To Play. It’s under “Defeated”:

In the rare situation in which a unit leader is defeated and
there are still minis in that unit, the player who controls that
unit must immediately choose another mini in that unit to
become the unit leader—the player replaces the chosen mini
with the unit leader mini.

What Nashjaee said, this is also why the strike team card is clear that the heavy weapon is the unit leader, as opposed to other units where the heavy weapon is not the leader.
