Charity Event Recap

By Ronu, in X-Wing Battle Reports

So our community held it’s second annual Diabetes fundraiser event. Usually these events have two player types. Those being ultra competitive flying the Meta and the guys flying casual. 2.0 proved somewhat interesting as the gap isn’t quite so wide. I tend to fly Casual and for the first time ever at a larger event I flew a Rebel list. Of the 13 that showed up we had 4 Rebels, 2 Scum, everyone else was Empire.

My list:

First match was against an Imperial list.

Soontir Fel: Stealth Device, Juke

Major Rhymer: Homing Missles and Seismic Charges

Turr Phennir:

Saber Squadron: Stealth Device, Juke

So I passed Initiative to keep Fel a bit reigned in. Rhymer 4k’s outbof the gate to blast a rock early trying the catch any over aggressive play, which were I playing Imperials and a bit higher Initiative I might have. I slow rolled up did push Wedge trying to get Rhymer early. Good though but dice failed. The Intercepters raced up the opposite side. Expecting to get behind and flank the Initiative 2’s. I waited till I was closed to th e rocks to start to turn to the Intercepters. Fel turned in but misjudged his ange and stopped on the front edge of a rock but no damage. Shots exchanged Fel took 1 Damage. Turr shoots and one of the BLues took shields the boosted and end up R1 of Heff rather than risk multiple shots. The Saber Shot the same Blue and 2 Hull Damage. Turr took 4 Damage and exploded from the U-wing. The next round was key. The U wing does a stop turn Wedge turns up catches Fel coming off the Rock. One of the BLues does a 4K out of trouble. Fel goes down to Wedge the Saber ran for cover. Rhymer take 4 Damage from fire of the Remaining Blue and Heff. After that it was cleaning up Rhymer and the the Saber. Won 200-83

second Round:

vs

Rac

Lt Sai

DeathRain: trajectory Sim, Proton bombs and seismic charges.

Just made mistakes didn’t have target priorities straight, lost 146-83.

Round 3.

Leebo: Han Gunner, C-3P0

Roark: Moldy Crow; Zeb; Squad Leader

Bandit Squadron Pilot.

Well this was a pillow fight as neither player was rolling reds worth a darned. The initial engagement saw wedge lose two shield and Two hull from leebo firing twice at I7. Then the U wing turns up from the side of a rock and gets a huge block on Leebo, which then created a parking lot for Roark, preventing any modified double I7 shots. Wedge shot and Whiffed with blank blank focus against Roark, decided not to wasted the Token for a single hit. Roark fired back and got 1 Hit which wedge dodged using the focus token. Heff who now had a focus and the 2 Blue Squadron Pilots took out Roark. The U wing turns 180 to catch Leebo going past, while and blue 4K’d and the other 1 banked to create a likely kill box. The Rock, Wedge and his own Z-95 were preventing Leebo from going back to the middle of the Map and he didn’t want to just Jam into Heff again. He did a big 3 bank which got him clear of where Wedge was going as well as the Blue was did the 1 bank. Problem was he was so close to the edge he had to Barrel Roll in order to give himself room to turn the next round of fly off. By the end of the round Leebo only took his shields off. The Z turned into the battle, one of the Blue squadrons turned around the asteroid to open up the lane for Heff, and the other Blue Squadron. Heff one banked and took a Focus, the other Blue came in with a 2 bank also focusing. Leebo had to do a hard 1 to stay on, a 2 was disastrous, instead my opponent tried a 3 turn to get some space. However the back corner was still off and conceded with just the Z left to battle. Won 200-30

Last match of the day was vs Guri, Fenn Rau and Palob. The game was slow, the opponent took lots of time with maneuvers picking up putting down and changing maneuvers several times. I was able to get Palob, and was working on Guri when time was called. He did manage to get one of the Blues and half on Wedge, and held on win. Bit disappointed as I was in an amazing position to chase down guri and possibly take Fenn Rau as well. Lost 50-73

I was happy with the list overall. 2-2 on the day. Not sure Outmaneuver was needed on Wedge or any EPT, honestly. Maybe perhaps Elusive but not sure if it would really help. Afterburners or a shield upgrade might have helped a bit more. Heff and the U-wing were really impressive. The Stop turns really give it some unpredictability and the loss of the defense Dice really never came into play as either the ship flew past the U-wing and went in a direction that took it away from focusing or preferring to go after the Xwing’s which were seen as bigger threats. Heff also did this as people wanted to avoid giving away free actions to Heff. The Intimidation didn’t come into play much either but I think it’s key as a way to help divert and control where an opposing ship wants to go. The Blue Squadrons worked well with Heff allowing me to move them or Heff to open lanes for the others. Not sure on the Tactical Jammer is really only came into effect a once and was almost a couple of times and only during one match.
