My question is....It appears that after the first or second round, all your time is either spent fighting monsters or try to close gates (2 wasted turns in other dimensions). The further the game progresses, the more frantic this gets *but* the issue is....You never really have the time to stop off and have an encounter without it feeling like a completely wasted turn.

Is this right? With gates opening every round for the most part, when do you get to enjoy getting perks and errata? Seems like a wasted turn when there is so much to keep under control.

That's the game: you are just a small group of small humans against a great horror from the great unknown, fighting against time and events with small resources and trying to remain alive and sane. This is not a dungeon-crawler game where groups of monsters come to been slashed by you and drop random trinkets or money.
