SPOILERS: My reviews of these 4 strike to stun contest scenario entries. They are all designed for 2e, but could simply be made 3e without much effort.

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

Title & Author: A bitter Harvest by "Ovid"

Plot Spoiler: Party investigates why orcs have returned to terrorize a village. It turns out that it was one of the former kidnapped people exacting some terrible revenge on villagers that presumed she was dead.

Concept: Good. Based on old epic Baltic tale of woe. Uses several elements from different' books. Stays on topic.

GM's Usability: Can last several nights of play. Seems to appeal to most careers. Mostly rural. Can be set anywhere. NPC info well encapsulated for GM's

Title & Author: Three Gentlemen of Pavona, by Alexander J. Bateman

Plot Spoiler: Party tracks down cultists and a necromancer who have loosed wights and spectres upon the Tilean citystate of Pavona. There is a lot of inquiry going on in this scenario.

Concept: Very good. There are a lot of new elements and numerous quotes from various personalities in the game. This scenario and bitter harvest would have tied for first (in my book).

Playability: Other than being set in Pavona, Tilea, it is an excellent scenario and could easily be placed elsewhere. The layout is superb. It comes with new poisons, monsters and 4 pregen pc's (if necessary).

Title & Author: The Lord of the Lost Heart by Pip Hamilton (author doesn't credit self on title page)

Plot Spoiler: Party shadows nobles and discovers that opposing forces are using the fly lord to infect a town and undo each others plots.

Concept: Nice originality in use of opposing nobles and jealous female. There are pictures of each of the NPC's which will help the players remember which character they are dealing with.

Playability: The scenario is highly detailed, but can be used linearly. I would suggest that a Gm read through and make notes in the margins and do a lot of underlining. Immersion into the town's personalities and having some kind of extra events going on will allow the PC's to undertake investigations without seeming too "door to door." The NPC's have lives of their own and the players should see them doing ordinary things as well as nefarious obviously. The PC's will NEED to take good notes in this sceneario. Good depth.

Title & Author: Shadows in the Woods, by Matthew Parmeter (Author doesn't credit self on title page)

Plot Spoiler: Walkthrough scenario to an isolated village where a village mother is up to no good. Several challenging combats.

Concept: Concept is generally original, but is linear with NPC dialogue.

Playability: The gm would do well to box up some of the read aloud text and embellish the surroundings, but the core of the scenario is solid.

That pretty well sums up why I don't spend my time at Strike To Stun. :)

There are some GREAT people and ideas over at STS. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of ****** bags who inject themselves into virtually every thread. I stopped posting there (under another name) just before v2 came out for this very reason, and I rarely visit more than 1x month.

DB's? I wouldn't go that far. Grumpy nit-pickers is more like it ;)

jh

Nitpicking is one thing. Pissing on a poster's enthusiasm for a rule/system is definitely in the DB realm. At least for me. That's about all I say on the topic though.

I have to agree. I've been playing Warhammer games of all varieties since about 1986, and I find the attitudes over at StS very hard to stomach. There is a very clear antagonism directed towards anyone who doesn't agree with their group thinking and their opinion of what it is to be a true Warhammer fan. And no, I've never posted there, nor do I intend to.
