FFG your app is poor quality

By BlodVargarna, in X-Wing Squad Builder

Why on earth didn’t you simply buy one of the already functioning 3rd party apps made by the community?

1) no offline- this is a no brainer make this a priority

2) ridiculous issues when saving (see multiple threads on this

3) can’t copy ships- if I want to make 3 ships with same load out, I have to enter the ship and all it’s upgrades 3 times.

4) can’t change pilot of a particular ship after it’s been selected, if I change my mind between Wedge or Luke, I have to delete and re-enter an entire new ship

5) the app is slow- this is probably related to number 1- make it offline.

6) no dials

7) UI is ugly and frustrating.

Your web app developers should be embarrassed by the terrible product they rushed out. You should be embarrassed by the terrible quality of the app and the frustration it is causing your customers.

Get your stuff together FFG.

I cannot like this enough. Well said, and so much nicer than I would have put it.

Also printing list is an issuse. There is to little information in the PDF /ship stats/pilots abilities/ upgrade card text.

8 ) Sharing lists is awkward on mobile. Why cant you share a list as text via Messenger / WhatsApp? Having to download a PDF and then screenshot it to share on these platforms is a daft way to do it.

No point values when viewing the "Card Database". So, we're better off printing the point list pdf and making our list and then just entering them into the squad builder to store what we used paper to do?

Well said; I hate to dog-pile on FFG because I love X-wing and otherwise think 2.0 is amazing, but the app is an embarrassment.

Such a big miss on such an apparently crucial element.

I love the game too. Sometimes you need to show tough love.

When I go to edit a saved squad, the screen shifts to a white screen and freezes!!!!!

and.... go off line!!! WiFi is usually spotty at gaming places.

yeah. the app is in EARLY beta stage at best. much like all of 2.0, it seems a bit rushed.

lol

All of above are just minor issues when we look at the elephant in the room: the app is UNUSABLE if you don't own EVERYTHING. Unless you know every single card and its quantity in the collection or you just lay your cards down on the table, which basically invalidates the app whatsoever, since you play with the physical components.

All of this is because Collection menu doesn't limit available cards while building a squad. It is an ESSENTIAL feature. Tell me, how should I use the FFG app? How should I know if I can add cards proposed by the app to the squad or not?

100% correct. The best way to use the app is to print the pdf. Put your cards on the table. Make your squad. Add up the total points, then store it in the app. That's if all the cards you chose are in the app. The app is only for list storage and even then all cards may not work correctly and the points values may not be correct. So, yes, it's pretty useless.

The best way to use the App is to duplicate your Squad you have build on YASB 2.0
When 'Collection' starts working though, it won't be that bad, adding the Dials as well and it would be decent App!

Agreed with everything stated in original post.

comical thing about the UI on #7 is they deliberately went with "pretty" over functional since they show the actual (note: jacked up because no red action) pilot card for each entry.

Which in the end actually pissed everyone off. We want plain text because its easy to read and quick to adjust. Im tired of scrolling 2 screens to see my loadout for ship#3 after looking at ship#1

Interestingly enough, when I view my lists in a browser on a PC, red maneuvers display as such. Not sure why phones behave differently.

The 1.0.4 update that fixes this was just released for the mobile version as well.

Rejoice X-Wingers, for they have learned how to code the color red!

I've found it functional enough. Certainly enough to do everything I need it to do.

I guess the problem with launching a piece of kit like this is a lot of users will expect/want it to do different things. If it doesn't do what a certain user wants it to do, then BAM, complaint.

I noticed they changed the credits page, they have credits in two sections; FFG and above that "App Development" by 10 Clouds... it used to be a bunch of eastern european(slavic?) names.

Russians hacked the app in an attempt to bring down western civilization?

10Clouds is a Polish company, so Slavic names are no surprise. I guess they decided to hide ;)

Yeah I wasn't sure, it looks like they have an office in Atlanta; it's just weird they fussed with the credits page.

It still lets you break the rules, and not having stuff like a function collection management and viewing movement dials is pretty bad. Add to the fact it's not an app it's just a web interface and is useless without an internet connection... (What do you do if you are in a place with no cell signal or free wifi)

Illegal list....

It checks all the those list rules, so a new player might think this is legal and bring it to a tournament as they made it in the official app .

It does not even have plain text export so noway to easily share your lists outside of Facebook/twitter and all those do is post a link to the web interface.

You're right about that, but I guess this comes down to expectations. FFG made the expectations quite high by calling the app the cornerstone of 2.0 (can't find the exact phrasing). So in my opinion most complaints and suggestions in this forum are perfectly valid.

So I have changed my expectations. I don't think FFG will make a squad builder that's suitable for the casual player to fool around with, it's just a tool to generate the PDF you need for tournaments.

There's still hope this will improve in the future, as this posts by FFG basically states the following:

  • They were surprised by the issues and lack of funtionality too.
  • Their focus is to fix critical issues first and prioritize other fixes.
  • They will listen to our feedback to create ' the best possible Squad Builder experience '.

At this point... I wouldn’t be surprised.
