Yah, I found the same thing today (then posted in the wrong subforum). Having a pilot in the list doesn't prevent from equipping a crew/gunner version of the same character and visa versa. Sabine Pilot in the attack shuttle can have sabine crew equipped, can have vader in the tie advanced and vader crew in the same list, etc.
