Various Rule Questions (Newbie)

By VOP2288, in Rules

Just recently finished painting my core set and bumbled through the learning scenario, came away with a few questions that I hope can be answered (yes, I know I could scour the rulebook but this is faster IMO)...

1. Weapons & Attacking - when you have a unit with multiple weapons can you/do you add all attack dice to the pool when attacking a single target? For example, let's say I have a unit of Imperial Speeder Bikes within range 2 of Luke Skywalker. The bikes have 2 weapons (the pistols and the cannon). At range 2, Luke is within range of both. Do I choose one of the two weapons to attack or can I add the dice for ALL weapons to the pool? Additionally, in general, can I pick and choose? Say, can I decide to use the cannon of one bike and the pistol of the other to attack (assuming you cannot attack with weapon total of 4)?

2. Weapons & Attacking Multiple Units - Using the previous example but now put a squad of Rebel Troopers within within range 2 in addition to Luke. When I attack with the bikes can I only target ONE enemy unit (Troopers OR Luke) or can I attack both using different weapons? For example, could I use the bikes' cannons to attack Luke and the pistols to attack the Troopers (or vice versa)?

3. Firing Arcs & Multi-model Units - Same setup as previous questions but now have only ONE of the bikes' firing arcs covering Luke and the other not. For the attack does only ONE of the models in the unit have to have the target in the firing arc or do both? So if only one does, does that mean only one cannon's dice are added to the attack pool?

4. Melee Against Vehicle - Different scenario: Darth Vader has moved to touch base with the AT RT. Since the AT RT is a vehicle it's not engaged with Vader and thus both models can move freely and attack/be attacked as normal correct? So even though the AT RT is touching base with Vader it can still perform ranged attacks against other units and be attacked by other units correct (and same with Vader)? But what if the AT RT wants to attack Vader? It's not engaged but its touching bases with him. Does that mean that if the AT RT wants to attack Vader it MUST use and only use its melee weapon? Or can it use its ranged weapons? And if its touching bases does that mean that it can use ALL of its weapons against Vader (melee, blaster, and additional weapon attachment)?

1. Each mini can select only one weapon among those that are available to it. So each of your bikes can use the main cannon or the sidearm, but not both.

2. If each bike selects a different weapon, then you can indeed attack both units. If they both select the same weapon, they must attack the same defender (all instances of a particular weapon must combine into a single attack pool on a single defender).

3. Each mini would need to have arc on Luke if you want to select the main cannon for each one.

4. The important concepts here are "melee" and "engaged". If you are in base contact, you are automatically considered to be in a melee. To be engaged, you must be in a melee and both units must be troopers. Although Vader and the walker are not engaged, they are in a melee. As such, they can attack each other, but must use melee weapons to do so. And you are correct that they can choose to use ranged weapons against other defenders, just not each other, and can be targeted by ranged attacks from other units.

Quick clarification. The answer on 2 does not change the answer to 1. Even though the bikes can attack multiple units in #2, they would each get to attack with only one weapon. One cannon on Luke, and one pistol on troopers or vice versa.

Thanks for the replies guys!

New question though...the Command Phase...

Okay, so you and your opponent select a command card and then reveal it, the player with the LEAST amount of pips gains priority and uses their command card. IF both players play a command card with equal pips the player with the round token (which changes hands every round) then rolls a red six-sided die and if and only if they get a "block" side they gain priority, if they do not then the opponent gains priority correct?

So let's say I play a command card that allows 2 units to be activated and I win priority, I then select 2 different units within 1 - 3 distance to my commander to "activate" - correct?

With those selected then this is where I get a little confused...so I have my two different units activated. I then issues orders (move, attack, dodge token, aim token) to both units individually one after the other correct? After both have done their thing then it goes over to my opponent who randomly selects an activation token for one of their units and issues orders, does so, then comes back to me to do the same? Rinse, repeat, until all units have taken a turn.

OR do those 2 units activated during the command phase carry out their orders IN THE COMMAND PHASE and then come back up during the activation phase (essentially giving them 2 turns in the round)?

Issuing orders means just that you put your order tokens face up next to the unit . And both you and your opponent issue orders to units during the command phase. Priority only sets who goes first in every turn.

Actually it means that you (and of course your opponent) will be able to Activate that unit at the exact time you want to, instead of hoping to randomly pick the right token from the pool.

When it is your time to activate a unit you can either choose to pick a random token from the pool (so you don't know which kind of uunit you will have to activate, charcater, core, vehicle or heavy) or to activate one of the unit with the face up tokens (so You know you are activating that exact unit).

When you activate a unit, that unit can make two actions..

SO the round goes as:

-choose command cards and give priority to one player (with the appropriate rules)

- issue orders = put face up tokens next to units of the kind specified on the choosen command card (if any kind is specified obvously: unit is generic, trooper unit is more specific) .

- player with priority chooses if he want to activate a unit with a face up tokem OR to draw a random token from the token pool. In the second case he/she can choose whichever unit of the same kind depicted on the drawn token with the exception of those units which already have a face up token or face down token (these last ones have already been activated in that round) next to them.

-Activated unit can take two actions - See suppression for more specific rules about number of possible actions

-the other player activate one of his/her units with the same procedure

- repeat until all units have been activated
