Uncanny Luck vs Pierce Question

By Omnustechni, in Rules

I have a question about how this works. I wanted to see if I understand it correctly before using Han. So if Han is attacked with a weapon with Pierce 3 like Vader's lightsaber and rolls 3 blocks, Vader's Pierce 3 changes those to blanks. After that can Han reroll those 3 blanks? Or would he do that before the Pierce effect? I guess the question is, when in the order of actions does Uncanny Luck happen?

Page 15 - Modify Defense Dice, happens after Re-Roll Defense dice so no, sorry he cannot reroll after Vader's ability kicks in.

Guess those ancient weapons and hokey religions are in fact a match for Han's uncanny luck!

Thank you! That makes sense and seems fair.

Just to clarify further, the Pierce abbility doesn't change blocks to blanks, it cancels those dice

The defender can resolve any card abilities that modify the defense dice. Then, the attacker can resolve any card abilities that modify the defense dice.

Han's reroll occurs before Vader cancels the dice with pierce, which is good for Han.

I don't think that's right.

First because Han's ability is a "Re-Roll" not "Modify Dice" ability which happens even earlier, so the section of the rules you quotes is not relevant.

Second because in order to use his ability to change the effect of Pierce it would have to happen *after* Darth used Pierce.

I find your lack of faith disturbing...

So with it being considered as rerolling the defense dice, it's still prior to Vader's pierce coming into play right?

It does indeed come before pierce, just for a slightly different reason than what you quoted (rerolling is not in the modification step, as others noted).

But I think CaptainRocket was, in part, responding to the “which is good for Han” portion of your comment. It may be counter intuitive, but Han would actually prefer to let Vader pierce his dice before he gets his rerolls. Because there is the possibility of rolling a few blanks, letting pierce apply (which does nothing to the blanks), then rerolling them without threat of pierce.

Alas, Han is not that lucky ?
