With the advent of digital tabletops with screens in them, I think there should be a mode in the app that locks the zoom, and make the map completely vertical and visible at all times, so that players can put the minis and other things on top of the screen, and not have to worry about it moving around. I recently played a game where we just made sure to line everything up every time, and it worked decently well and sped up the game a lot.
