Battlefield boundaries

By manoftomorrow010, in Rules

Hi all,

I will be purchasing the Legion core set within the next week, and am also planning a modular table surface, basically, 4 x 4 MDF that I can place on top of 2, effectively 3x3 card tables I have, so that I can play the game, then put the toppers away in storage while not in use.

However, since I was planning to have extra space for armies and cards on the sides (about 6 in, to limit the field between to the 3' space required), I considered putting literal wooden (raised) boundaries around the physical 6' x 3' battlefield. Should I not do this, due to the rules on "leaving the battlefield?"

Quote

LEAVING THE BATTLEFIELD

If at any time a unit leader ends its movement with any part of its base outside of the battlefield, that unit is defeated.

I wanted to include a small wooden lip around the whole area that would be the actual battlefield. Also, on the 3' ends, I wanted to make a boxed area for rolling dice and such. I would only be playing the game at home, very casually, and narratively. So, I guess I technically don't have to follow that rule?

I don't understand why you feel your proposed setup is in conflict with the game's rules. If a unit is forced to move and you can't complete that movement because your wall is in the way, clearly it would be ending outside the battlefield.

That's what I suspected

I like your idea!

In my experience, 2x4 pieces of board are much easier to wrangle and store than 4x4. I glue a 4x4 piece of fabric to the top of 2 2x4 sheets (no glue within 1cm of join) and then the fabric topper is also the hinge.

That's very smart! I planned to have some fabric on the surface as well. What type are you using? I think I've seen some 2x4 boards locally.

Just some grey cotton in my case - it's an old Necromunda board.

I also use quite thin MDF - 6mm or 1/4".

6mm was going to be the thickness I bought as well, and use 3mm for terrain bases

Get a 6x4 board and cut it into 3 2x4 pieces. It's a lot cheaper (at least in the states) than buying 2 2x4 pieces.

yeah I was planning on getting a sheet at my local hardware, which usually comes 4 x 8
