Nothing in the wording suggest that a unit leader cannot claim more than one objective token, so yes, he can take with him more than one at the same time.
Does anyone else find that the two that the red and blue player are allowed to place are always as close as possible to their side? Then you're just fighting over the last one and running away?
Im tempted to place those last four somewhat randomly, or in specific central locations, in order to foster a little more gameplay.
you could also put all of them in the same scorner and go all forward to get them one after the other. this way you don't have to split your forces

I had this same thought, but honestly the fight over the one neutral one is pretty epic. And all you have to do is make the enemy drop one of their "easy" ones for another way to win. Play optimally unless you agree with your opponent beforehand to do something different, I definitely don't expect my opponents to place them closer to me than they need to.

The leader can claim more than one objective, but he does have to have room to place it in base contact with nothing overlapping it. That can complicate being in contact with a barrier or getting into melee (but can also help keep you out of melee).
