I think it would be cool If they release special weapon upgrades that can be used my multiple units. This could also help wave 1 units that could run into the powercreep wall.
What do you guys think?
I know that if I could take either of the Fleet Troopers weapons with my Rebel Troopers I’d never play a Z6 again.

I think they should just choose not to have a powercreep wall. This stuff isn't mined from the ocean floor and sold in a natural state. Power creep is a marketing tool.
Convert the models you like to carry the weapons you want.

Well looks like they learned a bit with X-Wing 2.0 and are being thoughtful of not making the staple units irrelevant.
I'm hoping to see future upgrades which continue to bring relevance to regular troopers, Darth and Luke.
I also hope the snowtroopers and fleet troopers will remain specialized close assault / shock troops.

I think, FFG will release Packs, that just have a single figure e.g. with an alternative special weapon, like a DLT-19 Snowtrooper.
Maybe they will make alternative or additional unit leaders, like Imperial Officers, that give new special rules to existing units, maybe even different existing units.
There are so many possibilities ... to make money.

That's why I still like Nigel Stillman's old advice for WFB. "Paint just under 2000 points, give it 3 coats of varnish and never touch it with a brush again. Don't even own spare units for drafting and don't worry if your opponent knows your army list by heart." He published that in White Dwarf in the late 90's. You'd never hear that from GW now, and we thought they were too greedy and corporate back then!
When I buy into this I'll be painting 800 point themed armies and not even owning spare models. Not gonna make that extra money offa me! I am kinda holding off until more waves get released though. I want to paint lots of dewbacks and tauntauns.

Yeah but of the above Veers is the only model I like, and maybe the rebel walker. I don't know if I like it, as in I'l put other things on hold to paint it, or if I just like the idea of the rebels having an old piece of equipment. I could see myself motivated to paint 800 points of:
So Hoth Imperials are the only complete faction that's for sale for me right now. Seems like I'll need around 4 boxes of snow troopers, Veers, Vader, a couple e-webs and maybe an AT-ST. But I already have a lot of miniature AT-ST's and this one is really expensive so I might skip it.
I think the heavy weapons are probably balanced to fit with the troopers they are assigned to. I could see a dlt with steady or a flamer with speed 2 as being a bit overpowered.

That could also be a way to release new grenades/other upgrade cards without releasing an entire new unit. I sort of hope a kit like that would be more than just one heavy weapon/"extra trooper" (these sort of packs could also be used to release non-weapon specialists such as the hinted at Officers or medics).
I could see some type of support troop, like medics, be added in the personnel slot that can be used by multiple units before a shared weapon is added.

That would be pretty cool. Likely would be more cost effective if they came in like a pack of three or something (the minimum required number of Corps units) rather than individually. But, of course, that could mean people having more minis than they really plan to field.

I wouldn't be surprised if the extra trooper specialists were unique to the army, and had a radius effect.
Back on topic, I think a similar thing should be done for any heavy weapons that can be taken in multiple units. Either they be unique, or limited to X number, and then there are X in the box.

Sure, making a specialist (like say a medic) either a unique, individual unit (say similar to an operative) or a small independent unit with a couple minis is one way to do things (the second would be a bit problematic because I am not sure what the benefit of multiple minis would be as under current rules they would still have to stick together and thus only offer a limited effect).
I was responding to Darth 2Face's suggestion that a new support specialist like a medic be introduced to replace the personnel upgrade slot on a Corps unit, which is another way of adding new trooper specialists. I was meaning that if they go this route, I would probably rather see a pack of 2 or 3 medics, as it will likely be a bit cheaper than an individual mini (at least at things are currently priced), so it would be easier to field multiple medics in your Crops units. Of course, this is assuming that if FFG went this route, they did not put some cap on the number of medics you could swap in for normal extra troopers.

Ooh looks like I "only" need Vader, Veers, 2x snowtroopers, 1 AT-ST and 1 E-Web to hit 800 points on the nose. If I load up on extra gear and stuff, which for my first draft of any army for any game I'm liable to do in order to get a full size army painted in a hurry.
As expensive as it is, I have to admit, I think the Legion AT-ST is the best one looking I've ever seen. From the days of Kenner to the present.

Ah, if they follow through with what is in the learn to play booklet, then sounds like we could see medics and engineers as add-ons to existing trooper units.
Yeah, I was looking at the current pricing for individual commanders and operatives like Boba Fett. If they made a medic single model cheaper, it might be worthwhile. Maybe a set that has a medic and a engineer mini, with some extra cards for like you mention for maybe $10-12.

Thats already the case as Troopers can only take one of the two special weapon models in their box.

The established pricing scheme would suggest something like 7 figures of various poses for 24; 1 figure for 12.
powercreep is difficult to avoid for any game, nevermind that FFG has a history of it.
You have to make new things look appealing, and after you have exhausted all the funky mechanics that could conceivably work in a game you gotta start making them seem strong, either in general or against specific problems you may be having.
From a modelling perspective i can understand why they wouldnt allow weapon overlap, you'd either have a random Fleet Trooper hanging out with camo-clad grunts or FFG will be forced to release a new model for every weapon type.

Yes, but that $12 also gets you 3 new command cards, some number of upgrades, and an entire unit, rather than just $12 for a single model with upgrade card.
