Veer card, dodge deflect crit

By TheChaser, in Rules

I played a game today.

I played the commander card that gives two dodge tokens to vircles. And you can play the dodge to defend against a crit.

I give one to my at-st. That can only be wounded by crits

But the opponent allways roll aa few hits and one or two crits.

He said the dodge takes away one of the hits first. After the he took the remaining hits and I defended to the remaining crits. So the dodge does nothing as long as the opponent rolls crits + hits.

Is this true?

Remember, only during the veers commander card that let's you dodge with a dodge token against crits.

There is nothing that says hits must be canceled before criticals. Sounds like your friend may have X-Wing rules in mind? You as the one spending the dodge get to choose what is canceled.

AT ST has armor, so it ignores normal hits. Therefore the token can be used for crits

Thank you. What about other units? If the opponent roll 3 crits against a unit with a dodge. Does crit cancel dodge? Or do you always need the veers card for it

It can only happen with Veers’ card. Normally, dodge cannot cancel crits (RRG page 26). Veers’ card temporarily overrides that.

Edit: oh just to be clear, all of your vehicle units benefit from this ability during that round. Not just the ones to which you issued an order.

That's how I'd treat it too. If the card for veers mentions you may also cancel crits with the dodge ability, but does not have any instructions as to cancelling hits (or crits) taking priority then I would interpret that as player's choice. Obviously you'd then cancel the crit.

It's like the aim and option to re-roll dice. It doesn't state what you can/cannot re-roll, so you are fine to pick the better dice to re-roll if you wish.

I really need to take a look at the new commanders :) We're still playing with just Vader/Luke.
