General Weiss question

By CrowOfPyke, in Rules

Does the use of General Weiss apply Arsenal 2 to every miniature in your army? It sure reads that way.

General Weiss: "Until the end of your activation, you gain Arsenal 2. (While attacking, each of your minis can use up to 2 of its weapons)." Note that his is clearly worded differently than the standard Arsenal 2 definition: "(While attacking, each mini in this unit can use up to 2 of its weapons.)" It seems clear they intended something different with General Weiss than the standard Arsenal 2... and the key part of that appears to be "each of your minis" not "miniatures in this unit"....

This would mean that both AT-ST's in an army could use all four of their weapons when General Weiss activates (not just the one he is in), which seems to be what they intended, but I thought I would ask. I didn't see another Rules topic covering this particular point either.

In previous FFG games, “you” on an upgrade card has meant “the thing this is equipped to”, rather than the player or side.

Id be surprised if that was different here.

Anytime a card or upgrade uses the word “you”, it is referencing that unit only.

So that unit gains an additional instance of arsenal 2.

As the other guys said, “you” must refer to the unit that equipped the upgrade.

If it does not, then problems begin to cascade from there. Does giving one unit Grappling Hooks allow your entire army to benefit? Same question for a bevy of other upgrades...

It say until the end of your activation. So I'd say only for Weiss activation, if you can have another unit acting in the same activation as Weiss then it would read they can benefit IF they have multiple weapons ofc. This maybe more relevant later on with more variety with command cards but at the moment guess its just Weiss.

I know we’re delving into pure hypotheticals, but... in the event of multiple units activating at once, I still don’t think Weiss can confer his ability to the other unit(s). Again, because of how we must interpret “you”.

I think "you" is clearly limited to the "activation", so once you're on to another unit, the effect has expired. I believe the ambiguity in "each of your minis" allows Weiss to be attached to some future unit with more than one mini. This is not relevant for the AT-ST which is one model and one activation.

That's just the standard reminder text for the arsenal keyword. But yes, Weiss is not AT-ST only, so future units with that upgrade icon can use him, and it is possible that unit has more than one mini.
