Pooleman, like another said before, I think you are off to a great start on your terrain pieces.

Thanks. I made three more today, hopefully I can sparkle them tonight. The ones I made today are already better quality than the ones from last night.

I’ll apply some some spackle tomorrow and try to get them to look halfway decent but I’m not hopeful.
If you want an easy way to paint the adobe spackle type look, prime dark, hit it with a base coat of ivory/bone/similar off-white. Then get a brown acrylic art ink and water it down, then work if over the spackle from the bottom of the piece up (You want darker colors at the lower edges), then drybrush the same color you used for the basecoat. Then you can do your detail work on things that aren't the spackle.
It looks rather good, and it goes fast on getting it on.
Used that when helping a friend do some Afghan War tables for an event he was running a couple years ago...
Sorastro did a tutorial on trees.
For buildings, if you plan to Spackle I would suggest you have a play with a bag of Sculptamold as it is far lighter. That Scuplamold is brilliant stuff. You can google the recipe if you need.
In general keep your eyes open, as one mans trash is another mans treasure when it comes to building terrain on a budget.

One thing to keep in mind is that, in the US, it's often cheaper to get the premixed patching spackle at the hardware store than to get and mix sculptamold. Don't know about anywhere else, but a couple bucks for a pretty large thing of it is rather common, and cheaper with coupons/sales...
Textured spray paints are also a faster, if more expensive, option.

Sure, but the weight of the SculptaMould is impressive, most impressive. I would really encourage you to try it, because the weigh difference is what sets it apart in my opinion and is worth the extra cost.
