Cards vs RRG (Jump and Impact)

By Irokenics, in Rules

So there are 2 instances where the keyword on cards don't fully align with RRG.

Impact X

Card - Says when attacking a unit with Armor, you can convert X hits to criticals

RRG - Says when attacking a unit (no distinction to Armor or not), you can convert X hits to criticals

Why does this matter?

In the situation where you attack a mini that has Esteemed Leader. As per the RRG you can convert hits to criticals before the defender modifies with Esteemed Leader. As per the card the mini doesn't have Armor.

Jump X

Card - Says you ignore terrain height 1 or lower.

RRG - Says you can move over height X terrain or end the movement on height X or lower terrain.

Why does this matter?

In the situation where the mini with Jump X starts in difficult terrain. As per the card you ignore terrain height 1 or lower. As per RRG jump only affects the movement over terrain and the end position of the movement, therefore difficult terrain conditions can still apply making the mini slowed by 1 spd. The net result is a mini thats slowed down by spd 1 but can end its movement on top of something Height X or move over something Height X.

And of course there is the golden rules which state if the card contradicts the RRG the card takes precedence.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on this and how it's been played in your local areas? Has there been any official email responses?

I know the Impact stuff has been discussed before on the forums, couldn't find anything on Jump. It has come up a few times in tournaments and on our MOTF channel too.

We do have an email for the impact situation (it’s in the email thread). The reminder text on the cards has the correct rule, and it will be added to the RRG.

Regarding Jump, as far as I know this hasn’t come up yet. It’s worth noting that difficult terrain applies its effect when you move “through” it. Jump says you “pass over”. I think it’s reasonable to interpret this as ignoring the effects of the terrain.

Moving through isnt the issue. Its when the mini with jump starts in it.

Oh, that’s right you did say that. Well, as currently written in the RRG, the rules seem to interact in such a way that the jumping unit would be affected by the terrain in that situation.

I don’t know if that is the intent, and we’ve been playing as per the text on the card.
