'If something killed these guys, we should probably turn back' Kark mutters. However he mutters it to himself, knowing his words would not hold much weight with those determined to press on. He would give the skeletal corpse a wide berth as they pass by, having no wish to tough it.

As they move deeper into the strange building, something else would appear before them. It was another body clad in armour, and another, and another. The further into the building they go, the more corpses they find scattered across the floor. Some died to the viscous slashes over the armour, others from what looked like blaster bolts. Regardless, they had all been killed by something.

'Guys, I don't think we should be here' Kark would say in a worried voice.

On Gorse the captain would sigh heavily. 'We're not doing this now, go and get your stuff so we can load the ship'. He would turn however as the strangers approach with an odd proposal. He and his crew would give the newcomers a distrustful look. perhaps due to their openness. 'You want to conduct business' Ariss's father would stomp forwards and clamp a hand on Tino's shoulder. It felt like getting trapped in a turbolift door. 'You want to talk business pretty boy, you can do it here, with me'. With that he would push the Chiss down into a near by chair, the captain looming over him. 'Now, why would I want buy a first order shuttle?'

13 hours ago, player3333902 said:

Tino took a deep breath.

Well sir, it would definitely help, because it would give you access to places that you normally cannot go to. You can use it once, switch the ship id, then use it at another place. Keep repeating that and making sure that no one is tracking the ship specifically, and you’ll be able to dupe the First Order whenever you want.

Elias interjects: My blue skinned friend here is essentially correct, a first order ship with proper codes won't be stopped/inspected by first order customs officers. We can also throw in 4 sets of scout trooper armor for disguises to help pull of the deception, and we're willing to sell the shuttle for half its value. We're not looking to move contraband so it's not as valuable to us as it would be to say, an honest businessman suffering under the crushing weight of first order taxes. You're welcome to inspect the shuttle before deciding whether or not to purchase it.

"Whoever killed these Stormtroopers," Korath replies, "did so with a lightsaber. That means they were facing a Jedi, or at least someone trained in the Jedi arts."

Korath continues to study the scene. "Whenever this skirmish happened, it was a long time ago; at least before the Battle of Endor, if not Yavin."

"Time to be cautious ," Korath corrects. "Even though we're not likely to find and Imperial stormtroopers, or whoever did them in, there may be other dangers lurking."

"Agreed." Korath interjects. "Don't let your anxieties cloud your judgement. Stay calm and focused on the task at hand."

Bercilak out of habit takes the rear to cover from an Ambush.

Actually an imperial trooper felled by a saber is a good sign! It means that who ever it was... Was not on their side.

"Very true," Korath responds. "However, that still leaves the question of who was leading these troopers, and what, ultimately, was the fate of their quarry?"

The smuggler captain would audibly snort as the young Chiss makes his case. 'You really don't know much about this profession do you kid. Switching a ship id is not a simple job, especially if it's actually got to hold up under scrutiny'.

He would next turn to eye the older human as he speaks. 'No, but a first order ship that's somewhere it's not meant to be is gonna be suspicious ain't it'. Hearing the offer he scratches at his chin for a moment with thought. 'Well see, now I have a quandary. If you have this ship, you're not selling it out of the kindness of your heart. No, you're trying to offload it before you get caught for whatever it is you did to get it!'

As the mans voice raises to an angered pitch hand would reach for pistols as his crew grow tense. 'You think you're going to just shift this ticking time bomb onto me like I'm some kind of nerf herder, and charge me for the pleasure?' the captain would snap, vein poking out of his forehead. He'd had a rough day already, and this was not improving his mood.

On Drall, Kark would shake his head. 'If these guys had a few anxieties, maybe they'd still be alive'. Still the party moved further into the building, past the bodies that scattered the floor.

Finally the corridor widened out into a large room that stretched out into the dark. Here there was the greatest concentrations of the fallen troopers. Near the back of the room was an odd device that looked like an empty picture frame with a computer system set int he base. It was big enough to fit a full sized adult in it, and Jonas would recognise it as the same system that had frozen him beneath the oceans. To the right was a large computer terminal that blinked and flickered in the gloom.

Perhaps the most important, and for some the most sorrowful part of this was one body in particular. Propped against the terminal was a skeleton, garbed in sandy brown robes that were easily recognised as those of a jedi of old. The robes were riddled with black marks of gunfire, no less that twenty shots had hit the jedi. On top of that, a jagged slash was visible across the lower torso, similar to those that had been inflicted on the troopers. The skeleton stared at them with eyeless sockets as it's skull slumped to one side. One hand rested in its lap while the other was flung to the other side, and a little way from its bony fingers was a thin metal tube, a lightsaber. It seems that Jonas's friend had died tragically int he place that was meant to keep him safe.

Elias spoke in calm voice without moving: Sir if you don't want to buy it because you don't have the resources or connections to change the transponder codes, then don't buy it. I had guessed that you could change them or had connections who could. If you're curious about how we acquired it, we stole it from the first order forces who were busy massacuring the inhabitants of Dantooine so that we could escape the same fate. A ship is a resource, it has value, particularly to a smuggler with the resources or connections change the transponder codes. As for being where you're not supposed to be, the best place to hide a needle is not in a haystack but among other needles. A first order ship can get you in places with a high concentration of neo imperials without attracting attention, which coincidentally is the kind of place where contraband commands the highest prices. If that kind of smuggling run is to risky for you then you most certainly shouldn't buy it, but maybe you could point us in the direction of a ship fence or smuggling crew that is less risk adverse than you.

Jonas kneels down next to the skeleton and puts his hand on its shoulder, "A terrible end, my man. There was always that risk. And we knew it. And yet we did this **** anyway. Peace out in oneness with the Force." Jonas bows his head and then takes his friend's old lightsaber. "Whether this thing still works or not, I don't give a ****. It is a reminder of the sacrifice this brother made so that a Jedi Order will be rebuilt. In his memory! " Jonas pulls out a flask and pours a little on the cold floor.

The burly Drall enters last and catches Jonas's brief eulogy.

" Sithspit! An unfortunate find, I'm sorry Jonas Shaaf for your loss.

A single ripple seems lost in the tide, but each undulation accumulates across the wide.

The strength to shape shear cliffs, and the might to move shorelines is but a ripple in unison of many wills acting of the same mind...

He has helped shape things. His life head meaning and he returns to the waters of life, the steam of the force."

The captain would stare at Elias for a moment before lunging forwards to grab him by the front of his shirt. 'You trying to insult me now after coming to me with this bum deal?' he would growl in a threatening voice. 'You think that's a smart thing to do, or you just got a death wish?'

Kark would edge around the room carefully in an attempt to avoid the number of corpses that littered the room. He was much more interested in the large computer terminal. Sidling up to it he taps a few of the controls on the terminal to check it for life. To his surprise and pleasure, a large blue screen flickers on, albeit with a large crack running down the centre. He twists his head to speak to the others. 'I think I can get this working again, give me a moment'.

He sets to work, tapping on the controls in an attempt to access whatever information it may hide, but after a few long minutes he lets out a defeated sigh. 'It's encrypted, at least it looks that way. This tech is pretty old, I've not seen something like this up close before. If we can figure out the password, I could get in, but without it I can't do much else'.

Elias activates the sense defense upgrade: I'm not trying to insult you, I was trying to diplomatically ask you to point us in the direction of a buyer who might be interested. You seem determined to pick a fist fight though, it's not my wish to fight you but if that is what you're after I will oblige you. Me by myself against you and your whole crew seems fair to me. I would prefer that we all put our weapons down first so that I don't have to use lethal force. And, to make things interesting, would you care to put a wager on the outcome? I'm willing to wager the first order shuttle but I'd expect you to wager something equally valuable in return.

"Nice," Korath replies. "See if you can bring up the security footage of what happened."

'I've got a better idea' the captain would snap at Elias as he reaches to take his pistol out of his holster.

'Boss' one of the crew would call out from behind. 'We really need to head out'. With a heavy sigh the captian would release his pistol and shove Elias roughly against a table, stumbling him a bit. He would spin on his heel and jab a finger in his daughters direction. 'Get your stuff on the ship or we are leaving it behind. The sooner we're off this rock the better'. With that he would stomp towards the cantina's door, his men following close behind.

On Drall, Kark would shuffle back in front of the console now that the jedi had been able to unlock its contents. Tapping away, he would bring up a series of files, some of the few that had not been corrupted over the long years underground. 'Hm, ok, so there's not much left but I think I can get these logs on, probably'.

A little bit more work and the first file expands as a small holo projection of a jedi master emerges. A middle aged human smiling out at the audience. 'Ok!' it declares. 'So we've got the chambers finally working, so we should definitely not die a horrifying, agonising death after the ten year mark. I mean, I doubt we'll be in there that long, but it's best to be safe'. The man steps back and there is a jet of gas that hides him from view. When it stops, a slab of carbonite stands in his place, still and silent.

The next log shows a close up of his face, now free of the carbonite once again. 'Ok, two days out of the box and my eyesight's come back. Gotta say, eating blind is not as fun as it sounds when we planned this. Here's the thing though' he would say as the sounds of controls beeping in the background can be heard. 'I've come out, but the others haven't. I set my chamber with an early warning system to monitor the holo-net, just in case. That way I can make sure it's safe for the others to be released. Now, what set it off' More time is spend watching him at the console before he suddenly stumbles back, falling to the floor. 'No' he would gasp. 'No, they're gone, all of, but how?' A tear can be seen running down his cheek before the log cuts out.

The third log shows his projection wrestling with the console controls as a warning klaxon blares int he background. 'They must have tracked the signal from this place, They've found me! They're trying to wipe us out, but I'm not going to let them. They've got me, but the brotherhood,' he pauses as he looks up, somehow his eyes meeting with those watching the projections. 'I was in charge of the carbonite freezing process for the brotherhood, I set it so I could monitor all locations and vital signs from here. If they break in, they're all dead'. He glances behind him as there is an echoing boom. 'I'm recording this for any brotherhood survivors who find this. I'm sorry, truly I am. I'm going to cut of the hubs power of your carbonite life support units. If I do this there's no way for this empire to track you, but without the power, there's a chance, a good chance that the life support will fail. It wasn't designed to last this long, we were already running on luck. I'm sorry. Better to die in peace like this then have these monsters find you'.

Slamming his fist down on the console there is immediately a series of warning beeps. 'No, no!' he shouts as he watches in despair at the readout. 'Only one, only one is going to survive this whole cursed thing? Jonas.' He leans forward as he reads the console in more detail. 'Jonas, I'm so sorry for what I've done here, I wish I could have saved the others but I didn't have a choice'. Listen, I'm going to die here, but if you find this, and you can forgive me, I don't want to lie here. I want to go home, to Gorse, please'.

Suddenly there is a terrific explosion behind him as stormtroopers charge into the room. The jedi draws his lightsaber and leaps at them, the fight just in view of the projection. It is a spectacular display of what a jed master can do, and he cuts them down despite serious injury to himself as they circle him. Just as victory seems certain though, a looming black figure strides into view. This masked man draws a lightsaber of his own as laboured breathing is clearly heard. The battle that follows drives the jedi master back towards the console, despite his best efforts he is unable to lay a scratch on his attacker. Suddenly the enemies lightsaber slices through his leg, tumbling him to the floor before the killing blow is struck, without remorse or hesitation. The projection freezes with the black caped figure standing over his kill.

Kark takes a few steps back, speechless with what he'd seen. He glances at the others before shaking his head. 'That's all there is' he would say in a quiet voice.

After the captain had left, Elias turned to Arvel and said: Things aren't always what they seem Arvel. After the captain twice responded to my attempts at diplomacy with escalating threats of violence I realized that although we were both speaking basic, we weren't really speaking the same language. He was speaking what I assume to be grizzled old smuggler captain, I was speaking eldest son of a chief of a tribe of primitives who'd gone on a walk about the galaxy to see what he could learn. Most of my people would have continued with their traditional methods of diplomacy which the way things were going would most likely have lead to a large and lethally violent combat involving all present and potentially innocent bystanders as well. Realizing this I attempted to speak to him in his language. From what he said to his daughter he valued and respected going big and betting high. Given the circumstances going big meant me against his entire crew and betting high meant the shuttle. I was also putting a credit value on what I was saying and attempting to get him to put a credit value on what he was saying so he would measure the worth of his words in terms of monetary consequences, as an attempt to get him to de-escelate. It did at least succeed in getting him to pause and consider his actions. In the event that he placed a wager on the outcome it meant I would have limited the scope of the impending otherwise lethal conflict to one that had zero risk of significant injury to all involved. From the way he and his men moved and carried themselves I could tell that, well I'll put it this way, none of them were a martial artist who had trained since birth in the fighting style perfected by their forefathers over the course of millennia. That's not bragging it's a statement of fact; if I had been attempting to show off I would have told him which of his ribs I was going to break and then break only that rib with a knife hand strike. I'm not proud of it now but I actually did that a few times as a teenager. When he was turning to leave I let him shove me and pretended to stumbled so as not to offend him further. My pride isn't worth risking a confrontation. I realize my approach was unconventional, but as I said, it seemed like it had the best chance at avoiding a large and lethal combat over what amounted to nothing more than a failure to communicate. At least that was my on the spot analysis of the situation which admittedly could have been faulty because I was rushed, needed to track too many variables in real time and peering into the future to see what would and wouldn't have worked was a distraction that I couldn't afford at the moment

Nope, this is the first time for this particular comedy of errors. But when something isn't working, you either change or die. He then laughed and added, I don't keep making the same mistakes I make all new ones.

Well we're in a cantina with an open bar, we might as well have a drink and wait to see who walks in. But since I speak smuggler captain so poorly maybe someone else ought to do the talking this time.
