Kark would stifle a heavy sigh as he turns back around, his feet crunching in the snow. Holding out a hand he would gingerly take the battered looking relic from the dralls hand. He'd never seen anything quite like it before, or at least not in person. He'd seen a couple of drawings of holocrons in the past through old holo-books he'd found, but they did not mention anything that matched this. He would hold it up to the light of the morning sun to examine the metal and crystal structure better. The sun glinted off of it faintly as the ray pierced the clouds above, making the old artefact actually look rather beautiful.

'That's my boy' Tino's contact would tease before letting loose a quick chuckle. With that she would end the call, and a set of coordinates for the planet Gorse would flash through for the smuggler to follow. Looks like he had another job to do, hopefully this one will pay better than the last few. If nothing else, ship fuel was getting expensive.

( @Rabobankrider roll your force dice please!)

The corners of the polygon shift slightly. A small chartreuse glows pulsing emanates from the seams.

As Kark continues to look at the artifact, the pulsing quickens and suddenly it jumps out of his hand hovering in the air. The bright light almost turning yellow before dropping and settling to a stable deep green pulsing much more slowly.

Kark however would no longer be looking at the thing in his hand.

No, he is standing on a desolate scrub plain. The sun is starting to set. Its low set purple-red rays throwing deep shadows across the landscape. He walk towards the horizon, everything still, silent till a scream breaks the stillness. It rips a hole and all the terrible noise screams in flooding his senses. The endless plain was a mirage, he rushes forward till he gets to an edge, below a scene of death and chaos, battalions scatter in front of giant walking battle machines, starfighters and airspeeders dart at each other ocassionally they strafe the ground forces. A young scared trooper tugs on your shoulder which is draped in brown robes. "Finally your here! A turn in the tide! The day is saved!"

A saber ignites in front of you, from your own hands a blade forms splitting realty in two. It falls aside cleaved in two. Nothing remains but a soft glowing blue, a pale emptiness. A peace flows over you. The saber from before lies in your lap. Your cross legged floating. After what seems like an eternity a voice calls to you... Whispering. A childhood friend? Your mother? A favorite teacher? A youthful lover? It seems like both all and none of them. "Will you... go...? Will you stay? Will you... Save... Them... Will you save... Yourself?

The blue lights dissolves to green and then to black.

Slowly the world filters back into your senses. The polygon has gone dark and inert and lies plainly in Kark's trembling hand.

Elias: We are NOT agents of the first order, all of us except my brother Chemdat are fully trained Jedi knights. Knowing your name was enough for me to locate you through the Force and I got your comm info by peering into the future, there was at least one possible future where you gave it to me willingly in the next 24 hours. The Miraluka is Akua Serendine, the Arkanian is Excal'ur Pendragon, I am Elias Windrider. M y brother Chemdat Windrider is still early in his jedi training. We stole the first order shuttle from former imperial inquisitor Matthis Karr in order to escape a fisrst order massacre on Dantooine commanded by Karr. We had nothing to do with the destruction of Hosnian Prime. Miss Akua is currently a member of the Resistance and suggested Gorse as our next destination for us to plan our next course of action. There wasn't anything to eat on the shuttle and we were about to have a meal at a cantina on Dantooine when the first order attacked. Do you mind terribly much if we finish this discussion over dinner at an establishment of your choosing? Preferably someplace with good yet reasonably priced food. I can't speak for the others but you are welcome to hold onto my lightsaber and this blaster pistol I liberated from a scout trooper on Dantooine until after our meal and discussion are over.

Arven looks at them, bemused and responds, "Well, THAT is something I never would have expected! Looks like the rumors of the Jedi's extinction after Skywalker's disappearance were just that: rumors. Well, if you really are Jedi, then I probably couldn't stop you guys anyway. I have to say, if you really did steal a shuttle from an ex-Inquisitor, then I'm very impressed. Pick up your weapons . Many people have fled the city, but there's still a decent enough place near by. My buddies and I used to go there on leave."

At this point Arvel pauses for a moment, thinking to himself, Those days are gone.

Arven continues, "Anyway, what I really want to know is this. Are you guys fighting to destroy the First Order?"

Elias: While Jedi are very few in number and Force sensitivity is rare, it's not quite as rare as the average galactic citizen thinks. Most inhabitants of my home planet are force sensitive but we are the descendants of jedi who survived an ancient disaster that wiped out most life on the planet. There are also a lot of Force sensitives out there who are completely unaware of their gift and only need the proper training to be a Jedi. You are one of them.

Getting past Karr wasn't that difficult this time but that particular trick won't work against him again. Just so that you know what not to try against Karr, because with the right training you could do it one day, here's the trick. I had ambushed 6 scout troopers who were hunting us by attacking them with their speeder bikes. It was overkill but I needed to take them all down simultaneously before any could get off a distress call. We disguised ourselves in the armor of the 4 scout troopers who died and rode into the massacred town on their speeder bikes. When Karr sensed, I guess two of us because he used the plural, to call us out, I telekinetically puppeted two actual scout troopers to make it look like one used the Force to hurl a boulder at Karr, and then like they made Force enhanced leaps over to where the speeder bikes were parked. When everyone chased them we stole the shuttle. Karr telekinetically threw a section of wall at the shuttle as we were flying away which is how the armor on the side got dinged. Besides switching transponder codes, we'd need to get that ding fixed before using this particular shuttle on an infiltration mission.

As for fighting the first order, that's what Miss Akua has been doing since... well you'll have to ask her. Excal'ur is more of a healer than a fighter. And until 3 weeks ago Chemdat and I were on our home planet, where he has been for all of his life and I've been for the last 9 years. We left in search of my former jedi master, Korath Lorren, because Chemdat's training was not going well.

Chemdat scowls at Elias: I'm right here and can hear you, you know. And I'm not some second rate loser, I've got just as much potential as you ever did Elias.

Elias to Chemdat: It has nothing to do with your aptitude Chemdat, I'm simply not the right instructor for you, our familial bond was getting in the way.

Elias to Arvel: It is better for an individual to not be trained in how to use the Force than to get the wrong training in how to use the Force. Incorrect training of a pupil has unleashed terrible evil on the galaxy a multitude of times in the past. That combined with me not being the right person to train Chemdat is why we left in search of Korath. He was there with us until a few months ago. Korath had tangled with Karr in the past, and from the stories Korath had told me about Karr, I had a decent idea about what to expect from him.

The point I'm making with my offer to train you in the Jedi arts is that a handful of Jedi, is not sufficient to take down a galaxy spanning oppressive regime. If you're going to ask me why I don't go back home and train an army of jedi to wage war... the galaxy already tried that, it was called the clone wars, it led to the Jedi being all but exterminated, the dissolution of the republic, and the founding of the empire. Besides which the population of my planet is tribal, there is no central government, so quickly mobilizing of the entire planet is impossible, it would take multiple generations at least, and even if it were possible, mass training is incompatible with individualized training and would unleash a greater evil.

Anyway, the first lesson I have for you is that a Jedi uses the Force only for knowledge and defense, never for attack. The second lesson, one that you personally need to learn, is that revenge is not justice and it is not the Jedi way, because if you Arvel Venn seek revenge you will become a greater evil than the one you seek to destroy. The ideal solution involving the first order, however unpalatable it may be, would be to root out the darkside force users in the first order, and to then negotiate a peace treaty. That probably won't be possible, so instead we're going to do whatever we can without becoming the evil we beheld .

So this is the place? If you like I can order for you, I know what you would have ordered, and it's a skill I can teach you if you'd like to learn

Akua smiles abit and waves at Arvel.

She cheekily asked as she smiled.

Arvel laughs, "If you're trying to impress me with your post-battle horn blowing, please stop. I've heard better from the great heroes of the Empire. And the Rebellion. Arvel pauses for a moment. Is this really it? Arvel thinks. The famed Jedi Order, saviors of the galaxy, has been reduced to a couple of Force-using shipjackers playing parlor games . And yet only two of the four have spoken their mind.

Arvel looks Akua and Excal'ur in turn. "I'm the last Republic officer here on Gorse. I could have left to join the Resistance weeks ago. I have ties to General Organa which go back two generations. Republic officers are rallying on planets on the Rim to mount a counterstrike against the First Order. I could have been there too. But I stayed here, because... well, because, I felt something. I felt that my path was different. That I needed to wait here for something. When I found out who you were, my heart skipped. I thought, perhaps, were you who I was waiting for. Now that Elias has spoken, I fear that I made an error. Akua. Excal'ur. What do you have to say?"

It wasn't about horn blowing, it was advice about how to survive. Master Skywalker actually showed me a few of those holovids years ago, the message that went along with it was, let me try to get his words right... "Don't take reckless chances, I was being backed up by Rebel military forces, and you will generally be on your own without support." Of course Master Skywalker, although he is incredibly powerful didn't always make the wisest decisions, by pretty much his lonesome he was trying to simultaneously train over 30 next generation jedi. That was something Korath Lorren objected to. Luke's own nephew Ben Solo, who I can tell you first hand was head and shoulders above every other apprentice there in terms of raw power, had some serious darkside tendencies. Korath saw those in Ben so Korath, I, and my now wife Trixie left for my home planet. We don't know the details of what happened next, but we know that the academy was wiped out by the First Order and the galaxy hasn't seen Luke Skywalker since then. This is a my first hand experience reason why I told you that mass training of Jedi is destined to create a greater evil. Ben Solo wouldn't be a major threat to the galaxy now if Master Skywalker had never trained him or maybe if he had trained no more than a handful of pupils to completion at a time, then Ben could have gotten more individualized attention. You might not know this but in the time leading up to the clone wars, Jedi were forbidden to marry. I suspect that the general consensus was that Jedi training their own families posed too great a risk of someone falling to the darkside, and the danger isn't one way either. I'm sure you've heard of Luke's father by two different names but you probably didn't know that they were the same person. One is Anakin Skywalker, hero of the clone wars even according to imperial propaganda. His other name was Darth Vader. A big reason that Luke Skywalker didn't end up a darksider like his dad was that Darth Vader never knew he had children until after the battle of yavin. And Luke Skywalker never knew who his father was until Darth Vader told him during their first duel at cloud city. But by that time Grandmaster Yoda had already given Luke rush job training which helped prepare him somewhat but had largely focused on turning Luke into a weapon to take down Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine who by the way was a Sith Lord. The point is that a lot of Master Skywalker's poor judgement when it came to training the next generation of Jedi, can be attributed to his own abbreviated training. Korath Lorren was classically trained by an ancient Jedi master who predated the Russan reformation, which was when the prohibition on Jedi marrying was introduced. The focus of surviving Jedi should now be giving the next generation of Jedi the individualized training needed to prevent them from falling to the darkside. Right now it's about survival without creating a greater evil.

As for the parlor tricks, I figured that you might still need convincing that we were Jedi rather than conmen who had prepped some special effects and that ordering for you would put to rest any remaining suspicions on your part. It also demonstrated some useful skills I could teach you.

By the way, unless there is a vast difference in training in favor of the other party, comparing a descendant of Anakin Skywalker to almost any other Force user in the galaxy isn't fair to the non Skywalker. If you are ever faced with a head to head one on one confrontation with Ben Solo, your best chance at survival is to run, and the same goes for me.

Jedi were forbidden to marry because it was thought that through marriage, a jedi would have passion... and if that passion overtakes them... to the darkside you go.

Akua chipped in.

As for why I'm here, well Leia asked me to grab that list of force sensitive children we had in the base on Yavin 4 and I met them on the way here, one thing led to another, and we were all running from Karr.

Akua smiled.

And well, you are one of the children on the list.

She then said softly. Akua then walked forward slightly amd placed a hand on Arvel's shoulder.

Honestly... I'm not helping gather force sensitive children so that they can be trained to fight Snoke... I'm gathering them because I want to spread hope. Yes, we have a good purpose in this battle, thus many people wish to help fight. But what's the point of fighting if people lose their will? Trust me... fighting day after day, month after month, year after year will... damage you in a way that is hard to repair. So... all I want to do is to spread hope. Give people a reason to push on, so this war will be over. After all... rebellions are built on hope aren't they?

Akua smiled warmly at the male.

So will you join me Arvel? To spread hope and peace throughout the galaxy?

Akua smiled gently at the male, but the warmth and hope could be clearly felt through it.

Oh and did you see the holovid of me of me on Hoth? I think I was pretty good.

The female then smiled playfully.

Elias responded: that isn't actually incompatible with an empirically informed belief at the time of the Russan reformation that Jedi training their own families posed a greater risk of someone falling to the darkside because of the intensity of their familial bond. Not saying that it supports it either, it's just non-contradictory.

Arvel looks at Akua and thinks, She was at Hoth?! Wow! These Jedi are even weirder than the stories dad used to tell about Vader choking someone to death.

"My apologies, ma'am," says Arvel to Akua, " But I am an officer from a long line of officers, and we know all too well the price soldiers pay. However, one thing you said did intrigue me. You said that General Organa wanted a list with my name on it. I won't ask how my name got on such a list, but I would like to know what General Organa wanted to do with the list, or the people whose names were on it."

Elias responds to Arvel Venn's unspoken musings: ok this is the last parlor trick... I can't confirm whether or not Miss Akua was at Hoth since I wasn't there, but I do agree that we Jedi are a strange or if you prefer "weird" bunch. When Luke Skywalker offered to teach me the choking technique that Vader was famous for, I chose not to learn it. He offered because that technique can be used to subdue a target WITHOUT killing the them but I didn't want the temptation; it skirts a little too close to the darkside for me to be comfortable with it.

And yes being able to read others' thoughts would provide a tremendous advantage when playing sabaac if I were ever in a bind tight enough for me to need to cheat at cards to survive. I haven't had the need to do it though.

Akua smiled.

Well... she wishes for all the force sensitive children to be gathered for their protection... in case that old ugly man comes for them.

And well I guess... somewhere in our hearts, we all wish for another group of jedi knights huh.

Arvel looked back at Akua, "I don't need protection --- a platoon of Republic or Resistance soldiers would be protection enough. And I could have that without your help."

Arvel paused and picked his words carefully. What is it exactly you are offering, Akua? If it's some kind of advanced leadership training from Jedi, I'm interested. If it's an offer to abandon my sworn oath to the Republic to try once again to repopulate the Jedi Order, count me out."

Of course not. I would never ask you to go against your oath my dear. All I wish is as you said, to teach and pass on the ways of the Jedi to help end this war.

Akua replied.

Kark would leap back with a shout of surprise as the holocron slips from his hand and lands in the snow with a soft thunk. He would be panting heavily as he looks around, taking a few moments to realise where he was once more. After he begins to calm down he looks up at the jedi. 'Alright, alright. I'll come with you, okay? It's just, it's a lot to take in, you know? I mean I'm a mechanic, I build stuff and fix stuff, I don't do the whole, you know, battlefields and glory stuff'.

He looks at Jonas as he speaks again. 'If you're looking for your friend somewhere up here in the snow, I think I know a way that you can do that. The locals use these giant birds to get around, and they keep a few near the edge of town. It may help to get around and have a birds eye view of the place? I don't know, it may help'.

Reesh would nod slowly as his new partner reveals the information she had collected. 'Yes, it means there may be a base, and maybe force users' he would state bluntly. He lacked the gift with words that Arrisa possessed, or the skills that most people had. Maybe it was due to the translator strapped around his neck. The journey to Gorse was long, uneventful, but the goal at the end had such promise.

Reesh spent much of his time suspended in meditation, his room filled with noxious green fumes from the misting stone that he focused on. The religion of a findsman was a strange one, but it was difficult to argue with the results. That was how he spent the morning that they finally emerged from hyperspace above the planet Gorse.

He would make his way to the cockpit, and would stand with his eyes shut for a few minutes. When he opens them he points down towards the surface of the planet, a point a little way out from the city below. 'The mists showed a base, somewhere down there. Reesh thinks that is where to look first.

As the stolen vessel begins to descend the party in the city would see the ship pass overhead. It was nothing particularly special, just another ship in an otherwise empty sky.

By this point they had been able to make their way to the cafe a few minutes walk from the spaceport. It was Voss, or was it Wriss who had found this place? I time ago this was a bustling place, filled with patrons taking a leisurely morning as the waitstaff rushed about serving healthy portions of good food. It had been the girls that had brought the recruits here, young women who smiled and laughed in equal measure. They weren't here any more though, not since Helion Prime. In fact other than the owner, they were the only people here.

'Ah! Arvel my dear dear friend! How have you been? And you've brought friends, ah it is a sight for sore eyes! Please, please! Take a seat'. A tall rodian would rush from around the polished counter as he ties on an apron over a smart shirt. The cafe was warm and filled with small tables and comfy chairs. The rodian would push a couple of the table together to make space for them as he looks around at the newcomers. 'What can I get you fine folks eh? As Mister Venn will tell you, the food here is very very good!'.

Elias chuckled loudly, after getting odd looks from the others he explained, Arvel please don't take this the wrong way, I am not laughing at you, but you came so close to hitting the proverbial nail on the head. Our people he said gesturing to himself and Chemdat, are almost exclusively nomadic hunter gatherers. We hunt wild nerf and bantha. The only tribe of Ysanna I know of that are, shall we say "sophisticated" enough, to herd domesticated nerf is the one that manages the spaceport, if you could call it that, it's 2 landing pads, a fuel pump with the one light transport our planet uses on the rare occasions that someone needs to travel off world. So if Chemdat were to call me a nerf herder it would be high praise indeed. Alas he doesn't think that highly of me.

Chemdat chirped up: You're right there Elias, I DON'T think of you highly enough to call you a nerf herder.

Elias chuckled again. While my brother is fresh off the dirt ball so to speak, I've seen enough of the galaxy to know you meant that in a derogatory way, nevertheless I thank you for the "compliment".

I actually do care about whether the new republic burns, and I'm willing to do anything that would help actually resolve the conflict, but I will not queue up another galaxy spanning war for the next generation to deal with. Currently I see rebuilding the jedi order as not the only but the most critical component for lasting peace. Like Akua I would not ask you to break your oath. If it would help you put out the fires, I am willing to help you hone your leadership skills. Knowing what comes next on the battlefield and when someone is lying to you should prove useful.

Arvel warmly shakes the Rodian's hand and says "Quite good, my friend, and you? I have a number of very hungry friends. I've told them you make the best burger within a thousand clicks, so please do not make me a liar!" Arvel laughs, "Not like I've ever left hear disappointed. Well, there was that girl once, but besides that..."

Jonas smiles and says, " I can dig that! Korath, looks like this Kark fellow is one cool cat! Kark, brother, do you know a brother who could rent us one of those birds?"

Akua shrugged slightly. She had not known Elias long enough to make a solid conclusion on him, but she did feel that he was seemed to be very proud of being a Jedi and kind of liked to emphasise that.

Well, I can assure you that this quiet man is no idiot.

Akua said as she patted Exca'lure's shoulder.

Ahhh... I remember those days when he was... more outspoken.

The Miraluka then giggled.

Kark would straighten up a little as the compliment is laid on him. 'One of the Drall here runs the stables they keep the birds in. The trappers use it for getting about, much faster than walking and they don't break down like speeders, you know? I can show you where if you want?' He would glance around for a moment before turning back tot he three in front of him. 'Where are the others?'

Drez'n winks at Kark and picks up the Holocron disappearing it under his cloak.

He relights his cigar and looks at the sky while the others are talking...

"Depending upon where we're headed," Korath says. "We'll need some cold weather gear. Now, Jonas, I asked, what did this 'friend' of yours look like?"

Looking around, Korath continues exasperatedly, "Where'd the other two run off to now?"
