DnD Adventure (The Dreaming Heralds) Genesys Conversion in GM Binder

By dipicacyx, in Genesys

G'day All,

I thought it would be fun to take an interesting DnD adventure from a few years ago and Genesys-ify it. Thankfully, with tools like GM Binder, the Genesys theme, and Direach's great bestiary, my job was a lot easier (though it still took longer than I thought). I'd like to know what people think about this sort of direct port. Maybe it won't really work, but it was interesting to try.

Not quite totally finished, either. I've converted all of the checks from a DC to the Genesys dice (DC5 = Easy, and each +5 DC is one increase in difficulty), but I think some of difficulties may be a little high. Plus, there are a few odds and ends, like the gp loot, that I haven't quite cleaned up. Please let me know what you think and if I've missed anything.

Thanks very much for this! It look like a great intro to get folks into the system!

Thank you for posting something so polished in the new GMbinder theme. I'm just learning about using the layout, but with your shining example as a resource, it makes creating a new adventure seem much less daunting.

As a rule of thumb, when converting from DnD 5e to genesys is that you should use DC 10 for easy checks and then go upwards from there. A DC 5 check would be a simple check. The math is not quite the same, but it lines up a lot better than having DC 10 be an avarage check; iirc the Phb lists a DC 10 check as easy, a specialized 1st lvl DnD character has a 75-80% chance of succeeding on a DC 10 check.

On page 6, under section 2. Entry Chamber, paragraphs 3 & 4, you list hard checks with 2 difficulty dice. Should these be Average checks, or just missing a dice?

Sorry to derail, but can someone explain to me what "GM Binder" is and what one does with it? I assumed at first that it was some sort of computerized GM aid for play-by-post or online games, but it looks to me like a storage place where you can share stuff.

Thanks for the nice words.

@Zhamel , I've fixed those two checks with the correct number of symbols - they should be hard.

@PurpleKittenofDeath , it's a fair point. I think most of the checks will need to be downgraded, but I want to go through each one to make sure it still makes sense.

@finarvyn , GM Binder is an amazing tool to generate high-quality documents. It was originally designed for DnD, but you can create your own theme, which changes the fonts, tables, adds symbols, etc, so I've been using a Genesys theme. People use it to write nice-looking adventures, or just extra rule add-ons (races, classes, etc). You need to write the document with a little bit of html-like tags, but it doesn't need to be too complicated. Check out the reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/r/gmbinder/
