Alpha's Army (Now with Jedi Temple Guard! Pg 7)

Agrellan Badlands is more of a dried mud consistency. It will crack, but not nearly to the same extent. See the pictures below for the comparison.

And if you've not seen them on Facebook or Discord, I finished up a Rex and a conversion, where I turned Rex into Bly.

IMG_20191116_152302091

(Bly's basing is a mix of Agrellan Earth and Badlands, and you can see the dramatic shift in cracking)

Also do Rex's Phase II helmet:

Likely not tournament legal, but it's nice (at least for my lore-centric brain) to have the correct pairings of Jedi General and their commanders:

I really hadn't decided on who I wanted to paint my upcoming Phase II Clones as, but after working on Bly, I may have settled on the 327th. We'll see. I just wish I knew whether or not FFG would release a generic Jedi, so I could have "officially" include Aayla into my lists.

Just use Aayla as “Obi-wan”. I’m loving the minis

Oh, that's the plan, and exactly what I did with Anakin for Rex's first game.

Couple more photos today:

First up is Bly's Phase I helmet. I actually broke from canon here, and while I did the vertical markings from TCW, I also added the horizontal markings of a Commander as per the Episode II rank scheme. I think I like the hybrid better than his canon look, as it fills out the helmet more.

IMG_20191119_213639022

Next up, Count Dooku himself. The Count of Sereno was easy to paint, and he's a pretty dang good sculpt.

Count Dooku... the classiest Sith

Settle down children, and Uncle Alpha will tell you a story. It's a story about a dream, and one painter's piss-poor attempts to make it a reality. It all started a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, when General Kenobi realized that flowy robes, while super comffy, probably wouldn't stop laser bolts, and put some sweet armor on. To add some style, he also had some robe/cape thing too. It was awesome, and 14 year old me loved it. Fast forward, and I've now tried my hand at making it a few times now. A few pages back, you can see my attempt at a Skull Forge 3D print. Its an OK sculpt, but popcorning, and my own bad attempts left it being pretty meh. With a spare Obi-Wan and a unit of Clones, I decided to try again. My first result was, shall we say, disapointing.

IMG_20191120_173404211

Hoping to have him fit in with my Poncho Clones (Hawkbat Battalion) I put him on a muddy base, which then blended in with the robes, and left the whole model looking... meh. I ended up scraping off the mud and trying again, gong with Urban debris this time for the true, "Battle of Muunilinst" look.

IMG_20191121_162451659

Still not the best, but at least now the robes and basing don't flow into each other quite as badly, at least in person. To be artsy, and make a reference no one will ever, ever get, I covered the basing with bits of blue wash and Blood For the Blood God, implying this Kenobi just popped Durge like a balloon and Obi made quite the mess.

He's not perfect, and I still think I could have done better, but I'm going to leave him like this for the moment. His big brother gives me a few ideas on how to improve him, but oh well.

IMG_20191121_142006658

Even with his flaws, I think this version is a massive improvement over my previous try at the idea.

Hmmm, I wonder how well grevious' cloak would fit? the inner quiting could be smoothed over with green stuff

The Clone Wars core set isn't even officially released yet, and I've already moved on to an alt model for Obi-Wan. My paint job isn't the greatest, and I unfortunately have had some bad popcorning with my latest can of white primer, but he turned out OK. Unlike the alt models for the Generic Imperial officers, I'll probably use the official/alt at a 50/50 basis.

IMG_20190820_204750704 IMG_20190820_205322572 IMG_20190820_204758420

I do like the Skull Forge Obi wan in Armour, gotta get me one of those all ready for when I pull the trigger on the clone wars core set.

It's not a bad sculpt, but mine had some unfortunate popcorning due to the primer I used. Personally, I prefer my kitbashed version, but that's just me.

I finished up my battle droids this week, but didn't have a chance to get a picture of them all together. Instead, here's a neat picture from a game yesterday where Aayla and Bly wrecked shop on some Imperials.

IMG_20191127_150128959

Traded off my original core set Obi to try my hand at another one. Painted him in a hurry for an RPQ, and I think he turned out well. Sorry for the lack of good pictures.

Took a bit of a break from Legion to address other issues, but the release of Phase IIs and the Saber tank got me to come back, at least for painting purposes.

I'm also working on some Phase IIs for the 327th Star Corps. Bit of a challenge because they all wear kamas and pauldrons, so I'm using the guys from the Phase II Upgrade expansion as the base, with some guys from the Phase II pack sprinkled in. Here's my prototype squad, along with Bly.

I was just working on doing this same thing. Any tips?

I finally got around to finishing the three-ish squads of Phase IIs I had assembled and primed back in March/Feb. These squads were originally going to be done in 501st colors to match Rex, but a quick poll in my local Legion group and on Discord was in favor of doing the Courscant Guard, and as the Supreme Chancellor once said, "I love democracy," so the will of the people must not be ignored.

IMG_20200811_184146974 IMG_20200811_184352086 IMG_20200811_184435856

If you're sharp eyed, you'll notice that the three squad leaders all are different models. These were the guys left over after making the 327th Squads, so they're a mix of minis from Phase Is, Phase I Trooper Upgrade Expansion, and of course Phase IIs. I don't have a good picture of the helmet-less trooper, but I actually ran out of Phase II helmets, and gave him Rex's spare Phase II helmet with a slight repaint to look like a regular trooper's helmet. Hopefully I can get these guys on the table soon.

Taking a break from painting white, I've got my second version of Dooku. I decided to go with an Episode II theme for this one, right down to Anakin's arm decorating the base. Goofy and really simple, but I get a kick out of it. Probably used too much blood, but hey, cauterized or not, if an arm falls off, I assume it'll leak.

IMG_20200818_194727731 IMG_20200818_194740885

I also got my order of Vital Assets, so Rune Haako is ready to serve the Confederacy and line his own pockets as well.

IMG_20200818_194754282 IMG_20200818_194757659

The pictures don't do the eyes justice, and I'm really pleased with how they turned out, and the skin tone also had good results.

Moving away from the vile Seppies, I also have a pair of noble and upstanding senators.

IMG_20200818_194849416 IMG_20200818_194914791

Padme was simple to paint, but I'm not really happy with how her face turned out. I personally don't think the sculpts looks a **** thing like Natalie Portman, but then again, I don't think really any of the female character sculpts look particularly good. Senator Chuchi here is the first one that doesn't look overly manly.

And finally, the actual vital assets, the most boring part of the pack.

I LOVE the Dooku base with Anakin's arm on it. :D

But the blue-skinned Senator (I forget her name or race) from Vital Assets is my favorite. The paint job looks great.

She was a pain to paint. Probably the most detailed character model in the game, and with a wide variety of colors used. Not 100% pleased with how she turned out, but still was better than Padme's face.

My latest projects, a Rex to Commander Fox conversion, and not the droids you're looking for.

Aww, don't these brothers look cute?

IMG_20200822_142754257

And for a break from the dreariness of non-stop white armor, here are some of the Republic's finest droids.

IMG_20200822_142637111 IMG_20200822_142821246

I intentionally decided against painting them as Artoon and Threepio, and instead went with R4-P17 and TC-14. I think their colors fit my army's color scheme better, and I am very pleased with how they turned out.

They look great! I love the colors.

Sorry, funny picture we grabbed last night, couldn't resist sharing it.

Well, since I didn't get my ARCs on Friday, I was forced to entertain myself with some kitbashing. Decided that my Corsucant Guard clones needed a Space Maxim, so a Space Maxim they shall have.

IMG_20200831_132802469 IMG_20200831_132716820 IMG_20200831_132727498 IMG_20200831_132816241

Now to convince some poor sucker to let me play a game with this, either with home brewed rules or even the Imperial card.

Of i was anywhere near you, you could play it however you want against me. I like playing vs fully painted armies

Ha. You'd like playing me then, last time I played with anything but a fully painted army was when I did a demo game with a GenCon release copy of the Clone Wars core set. Even now, I'm proxying in ARCs until I can get the FFG ones painted because I hate fielding unpainted minis.

First up, the unit that no one cares about or has strong feelings about in anyway shape or form, ARC troopers! Since I went with a Coruscant Guard theme for most of my Phase IIs, and it could get awkward trying to tell ARCs and Star Corps units apart, I decided to continue the theme with these guys. Overall, I think it turned out nicely, and they are both distinctive in my army, but also look as if they belong.

IMG_20200905_105856663 IMG_20200905_105852683 IMG_20200905_105900572

I've also tried playing around with some Senate symbols with these guys. Their poses/sculpts didn't allow for me to place any on their chests, but the leader's pauldrons seemed to work for the decals. Not perfectly, but it adds some distinction to him.

IMG_20200905_105808248 IMG_20200905_105808248

For Echo and Fives (or at least, the minis I'm using as them), I decided to use an alternative scheme using the darker red I used on the ARC squad leader and Fox. They still look like they fit with my Coruscant Guard troopers, but I can keep track of which one is the 2 health mini quite a bit easier now.

But enough of the guys in armor, you all want to see this little guy, the savior of the Franchise.

IMG_20200905_110017416

Honestly not the greatest paint job ever, and the sculpt didn't have quite as much detail as I had hoped. That said, it still works and looks good on the table, and makes for a great objective mini for Hostage Exchange. Speaking of which, I had a great "thematic" moment in the first game with this stuff when the ARCs swooped in at the last activation of the game and grabbed Baby Yoda. It seems fitting somehow that it was ARCs charging to the rescue.

"ARC Lead to base, the Child has been secured, repeat, the Child has been secured!"

Couple other 3D prints I thought I'd share:

And I finally got around and ordered some printed Mines/bombs so we don't have to use cardboard tokens.

Wolf Pack Saber was not painted by me, but I helped with the decals and the wash. Brings up a question: do you guys like vehicles painted in unit markings, or standard Republic colors better?

With regular no unit marking clones the standard paint job. For legion and unit marked clones it looks better in their native colours.
