We're fast moving into the realm of purchasing nothing but ones and zeros. You can't lend a friend a digital download. (...which I guess is the point...)
In unrelated news, I found a copy of WipeOut 2097 and a PS1 I forgot I had tucked away at the back of a cupboard over Christmas. Still works perfectly. Good times.
Kind of related, the other day I purchased The Legend of Zelda (original) for the 3DS because I had some expiring credit with the Humble Store and I realized I never played the game from start to finish. Anyways, there is a bunch of information ( including a mostly complete map! ) in the physical documentation that is not available in-game, or in the sad excuse of a manual that they package with the software.
I miss collecting game boxes, maps, manuals, etc.
Edit: On the other hand, as an amateur indie game dev, I totally get digital distribution. Its a life saver.
