EA abandoning battlefront 2

Paid content has returned. Cosmetic items (character skins only) are now available in the game and these can be obtained with either credits earned in game or via crystals which can be earned in a limited amount in game or may be purchased with real world money.

See I've no issue with cosmetic stuff if you know what your buying, random boxes can go to hel.

Especially when the system allows duplicates.

Not abandoning it, though it is clear they are in "please play this game again" mode.

Yeah announcing the next focus is clone wars ensures I stay away.

Eh, I'd argue that they likely should have been there from launch. Aside from online stuff I don't think it is anywhere near the classic Battlefront 2. I think it was pretty telling how they didn't apologize for the issues that happened and that the single player game didn't get any stage time, just a cringy short interview.

I don't mind the Clone Wars: the era isn't all bad, but the movies in that era sure are awful.

A focus on the Clone Wars is not quite what I would prefer from Battlefront, but I would prefer more Starfighter assault options. Another campaign, Clone Wars or not, would be my second preference.

I'm psyched for the new clone wars content. Plus some of the changes to space combat sound fun. I'll have to dust this game off again when the new stuff comes out.

Before then though I should finally finish the campaign mode.

Disney just needs to hire Platinum Games to make a Jedi game that mixes the physics based force abilities from SW:tFU with the polish and action competency of Metal Gear Rising. P* makes games for cheap, their licensed games make huge returns on investment, and they're very quick.

So much this.

But hey, a new hero ship!!

Oh wait. Its another Falcon.

Well, I guess I'll never get bored of the A Wing....

This would be big for me. Too many games leave out a story campaign, or else make an incredibly short, unsatisfying one. I know having a real story team costs more, but it makes the game FAR more appealing.

The problem with controllers is the lack of keys if you want a proper flight sim. Only the steam controller really gets around that with its 40+ emulated keys (works really well for TIE Fighter), but well, it is not like that increases the user base significantly...

Requiring a keyboard along with the joystick is a feature, not a bug. Think of it as a sort of resource management, having to decide which commands to map to a button and which to reach for.

Honestly, I like my controller to cover the basics, but if it has all the functionality of a keyboard, why not just use the keyboard?

With a joystick sure, but with a handheld controller that is just too clunky for my taste. For flight sims it is flightstick/keyboard > steam-controller > regular controller/keyboard >>>> regular controller. It has the upside of remaining completely handheld and is therefor not just a good substitute in the absence of a proper flightstick, but also usable in a non-desk setting.

EA needs to be broken up and sold off a la carte. I'd be game for Activision/Blizzard taking a slice. Maybe then we could get Call of Duty: Battlefield and set the world of FPS games on FIRE. ?

imagine Blizzard getting their hands on C&C.....

Oh that would be glorious!

I could go for a time-travelling/dimension hopping Tiberium/Red alert Mashup. And Blizzard would do that WELL. Although, 6 or 7 factions in one game might be a bit much to handle. (GDI, Nod, Scrin, Allies, Soviets, Empire of the Rising Sun, Yuri...)

Part of the reason they opted to not add factions to SC2 was balance becomes difficult with too many factions.
They technically had that issue with WC3's 4 factions, atleast 1 of them was useless all the time often another was nearly useless but still playable. While SC's trio is pretty well rounded, ive never seen a point where one of them was dead (though Zerg on release was the closest)

So Battlefront is doing fairly decently!

Indeed. I'd rather have a game that's purely in the cockpit but has a decent storyline campaign than one which essentially has a nod to a story and tries to do space and ground.

This. With non-trigger shoulder buttons, the four 'normal' buttons and the D-pad allowing you to use menu-esque options, you're not that short of controls for a ship.

Finally picked this game up on offer over Christmas.

It's good.

Replace it with a TRUE X-Wing game:

High-fidelity flight engine. Use a model like Star Citizen, where flight is based on real physics, however the ship's on-board flight computers compensate and allow you to "fly" like in the movies. An option to temporarily cut the flight coordination system so you can go full Newtonian (they did this in the X-wing novels from time to time) would be awesome (the description I read of how the Koigan Turn is actually performed in-universe utilizes this). Toss in a detailed damage model (blow off wings and engines which affects performance and handling, hitting the fuel tank could destroy the entire fighter, etc.) as well.

Also include atmospheric flight modeling.

Story-based missions as in the classic games.

Fully dynamic campaign mode a'la European Air War.

MOD SUPPORT. The old X-Wing games (especially XvT and XWA) were actually pretty flexible, but it would be great to see the developers openly support the addition of new ships.

What if I told you this game already exists?

Sounds like tabletop BattleTech using the non-Cinematic space combat system. If you didn't pay attention to your thrust vectors you could rocket yourself off the board from mid way on it... There are a couple of others too but I forget what they're called (had one on my old computer, still haven't been able to get the hard drive drive working so I can recover what was on it. :( ) .

****, you guys are talking simulators... Oops, wrong genre... :)

XWVM has (or will eventually have) most of those features.

Agreed. Got it in the black Friday deals for like 8$ delivered.

Outclassed in space combat by those with fully upgraded mods but good times even with all my quick respawns.

Yeah, those who've been playing it all year have got the experience and upgrades, and it can show at times.

That said, the effects of the upgrades are marginal advantages - I've still had some good games with the basic gear. Rather than worrying about K/D ratios and the like, it's just a case of getting stuck in and playing to the objectives. Which is usually a lot of fun.

Space combat is really good as well, and a bit easier to pick up and play than the groundside battles. Criterion (who I've always rated as developers since their Burnout franchise days) have done a really good job.

The attention to detail in the game is phenomenal; the civilians fleeing on November and Tatooine, the animal life on Yavin, the dust clouds on Crait, visually it's incredible

How long is the campaign? Story-mode would be my main motivation for getting it this one.

EDIT: Just found the PC version for $5 on Origin, so I suppose any campaign at all is likely to be worth it.

Not long, to my memory.

About 6 hours, according to a quick google search. I don’t know if that includes an “epilogue” of sorts that ties into the Last Jedi that was released later, but that doesn’t add too much length.

That's a little disappointing, but I suppose it's not bad when it's on sale.
