Quick question: say I have vader in contact with an ATRT and my opponent activates a rebel trooeprs unit.
He wants to shoot at Vader, but is Vader engaged in melee with the ATRT? I know the ATRT isn't engaged, but is Vader?

No, Vader is not engaged. Both units must be troopers to be engaged. pg26 of RRG.

So that means that on Vader's activation he could just move away and continue doing what he wants without using his full activation to withdraw, correct?
Or even shoot at the vehicle.
Say stormtroopers with impact grenades are in contact with an AT-RT, they could instead shoot with the nades.
Correct

This is incorrect. Melee and Engaged are not the same thing. If you are in base contact with a unit then you are in Melee and can't do ranged attacks against that unit. You could however do a ranged attack against another unit that you aren't touching.

My bad
However, a unit of troopers in melee with a vehicle can attack an other unit with its ranged weapons.

Vader would surely just use his melee attack anyway ?
