Wedge Full Pivot - Answer from Alex

By keltheos, in Rules

Just in case you do have players still arguing Wedge gets a free action Full Pivot, here's the reply I received from Alex at FFG. It does require an action.

"Hi Daniel,

Wedge, when used, allows the unit he’s equipped to to pivot up to 360 degrees (instead of 90 degrees) when it performs a pivot action. It must still perform a pivot action, it does not get a free 360 degree pivot.

Cheers,

Not sure why people were arguing it gave a free pivot, must be annoying answering unrelenting silly questions via email.

Easy one. Go read the designer's diary posting for the airspeeder and Wedge. Says 'free' right there in it and since it's a free action on the card the interpretation's a possibility. Tweak the diary to remove free and I don't think anyone would have an issue.

If the card actually said to take a pivot action, I’d agree with you.

It doesn’t though.

People wanted to fight to the death that arsenal obviously stacks without any wording in the rulebook to support it due to the article.

Its easy to apply the same logic to the speeder article.

In the end have two articles not supported by the rules, one of which was right(arsenal) and one of which was wrong(wedge).

People should point this out to their fellow local players as another reason to never use the articles. Always go purely by the actual written rules(cards and RR)

Apples and Oranges; wedge says it allows a 360 when you pivot. Arsenal on the other hand is a keyword.

And although I can see how some people read more into the article, it doesn’t actually say that you get an additional action. The pop out of the card is quite specific that it’s a free action improving a regular action.

I think the intention of the FREE CARD ACTION symbol and Card Action Symbol is to AVOID having to write either. It is for players to know what the symbol means which wedges card uses the "Free Card Action " Symbol... I would have interpreted this as exactly that based on Rules Reference Page 11 Bullet Point 4.

This does not sound like it is the case though, I wonder if this issue pops up else where as well

We aren’t talking about the card though, but the text of the article. That’s what is misleading people.

“By using Wedge Antilles, you can take a free action to perform a Full Pivot—turning his vehicle up to 360 degrees, instead of just 90 degrees”

It doesn’t say to gain full pivot, allowing your pivot movements to go 360(the way it actually works)

There isn’t much room to interpret the articles wording any other way(the wrong way). You have to cross compare to the text of the card to understand the problem with it.

Some people are then assuming there is an error on the card or they are missing an interaction. Especially because of how arsenal went.

Wedge is a free action. You use a free action to use Wedge and exhaust him. Then, if you pivot later in that activation, you can exceed 90 degrees and end up facing any direction.

No one is debating that. We were discussing why some people were confused in the first place, when the card is pretty obvious.

Can you screenshot the email and post it in here?

Idk... Some people just say that if you have Wedge and pivot you can go 360 degrees. He has to be exhausted on the activation you use it.

In the spirit of clarifying... Full Pivot is a keyword. Page 28 of the RM. What it worked out to was:

1. Wedge activates the card as a free action, giving him the Full Pivot keyword for that activation.
2. Wedge performs the Pivot move, but can do 360 due to Full Pivot being on.
3. Profit.

Once that erroneous bit in the designer diary is ignored it's pretty clear if someone's read the full rules (once again, thanks FFG for not including an initial RM in the boxed set. :| )
