Heroes of the Empire - PbP OOC

Heroes of the Empire

What if Star Wars was told from the other side's perspective?

...What Battlefront II should have been, in my opinion:

The Imperials would be played straight as the good guys of Star Wars . Any bad things the Empire does would be thoroughly justified as acts of war, fake news, peace keeping, or blunders of disgraced officers. For example, Alderaan would be the equivalent to Heroshima & Nagasaki, and The Rebel Alliance would be portrayed as terrorist actors equivalent to the Taliban or Isis.

Any knowledge of the Jedi Order would be similar to the real-world player viewpoint of the Templars from the Assassin's Creed series. The Sith would be completly obscured from history. Current Characters with Force abilities would be analogous to the Inhumans from Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which I feel like the show's basic premise could be an appropriate model for this campaign. Probably taking place during the events of Rebels , Solo , Rogue One and A New Hope .

The PCs would have unwavering Duty to the Galactic Empire. The party would be a special unit comprised of PCs that have been cherrypicked from different Emperial units and/or Civilian Assets, all of whom have diverse backgrounds and training. Maybe some extra starting XP should be given to reflect this?

Looking for fellow players and an experienced GM.

I'll play. Probably not experienced enough to GM/to nervous. Are you doing non force specs? Knight level play?

I don't see why not, but I think that should be up to the group and GM.

No Morality mechanic though, just Duty.

Huh, I'm up for it as a player.

I'm thinking Force specs could be used, but its primarily an AoR game. I'd like players to be able to pick any specs they want. But the PCs should all probably be human or at least passable as humans.

@Rabobankrider @SavageBob ,

Here's the thread guys. Thanks for the interest.

If anyone knows someone who might be interested in this game, please let them know about it.

@Mychal'el , thanks for the invite! In a week or 2 I should be free to join as a player if that's cool. I was thinking either a wannabe super commando or a formerly disgraced doctor now doing work for the imps (depending on what other people want to play).

Just remember that the Imperials are the lawful good guys of this story, just doing their best to protect the Galaxy. Not that the PCs can't have interesting imperfections, just no irredeemable heinous acts please.

We all have to re-edit Star Wars into propaganda film in our minds, and censor out anything that makes the Empire look evil and just replace it with a patriotic recruitment ad. And anytime the Rebels blow something up, cut to a news clip covering the act of terrorism, with interviews of the surviving victims.

Totally fine with all that, should be good fun! In terms of starting equipment, is it just standard rules or as imperials is there any additional stuff?

I know I wanna do a heavy weapons / demolition specialist on this one.

You said only (or mostly) Humans, but how about Chiss?

Thanks! But I'm a bit too busy to join. Have fun!

Good question, since they won't be the underdogs scrounging for stuff like in most other campaigns. There would probably be a unit operation budget for the group's equipment since they are a government funded entity.

The crunchy specifics should probably be up to the GM though.

I guess it's possible that another Chiss besides Thrawn was excepted into the Emperor's services. I'm sure that likelihood would increase if they were Force sensitive.

I have an idea for a smooth-talking Corellian who washed out of the Imperial Flight Academy for being too reckless (not for lack of talent) and became a Jumptrooper instead.

Ace: Pilot or Smuggler: Pilot, then Recruit? Not sure, open to suggestions.

There is the Imperial Academy Cadet from Dawn of Rebellion as an alternative to Recruit. As for the smooth talking, Smuggler would be the better choice, due to the classes around Smuggler.

I looked up the Imperial Academy Cadet spec on Reddit. It's interesting but seems to be geared towards squadron fighter pilots, with talents like By the Book, and Formation Tactics.

What if I want to lean more into the Jumptrooper part?

Hmm, when I read it, those two skills seemed to apply to a wide variety of things: Formation Tactics allowed a Hard Leadership check to upgrade attacks against allies in Short range of the player, number of allies depending on how many Successes. By the Book, meanwhile, was spend 2 strain to earn Advantage equal to ranks in it.

But it does have a fair amount of piloting stuff, yeah.

For Jumptrooper...hmm...first thought was Gadgeteer, but Mercenary Soldier and Vanguard can come to mind, since Jumptroopers are usually flying to places and could be fairly close to others.

Sorry yeah, I just grouped everything together. I meant that it just seemed too Tie squadron leader focused for my character. But I am going for Piloting stuff, spaceship & jetpack, and anything that would mitigate fall damage.

Merc & Vanguard look very good for blitzing though... too many choices not enough XP!

There's a lot of piloting stuff, but as for reducing falls...all I saw for Conditioned are some FaD lightsaber styles and the Racer spec for Sentinels. That could be a problem.

Maybe Courier might have that, but Cyphers and Masks isn't here yet...I might be missing any other specializations that have Conditioned.

Edit: And funny enough, Imperial Academy Cadet has 2 ranks in Conditioned :P

That might be the right one after all!

I may have been hung up on the semantics.

I think I might go with Soldier: Vanguard / Imperial Academy Cadet, then pick up Smuggler: Pilot later

If we were playing Genesys I'd make a custom Jumptrooper career

Think I'd like to do any of the 3 Soldier specs from the core book with either Recruit or Imperial Cadet. Depends on the needs of the party.

If you guys are still looking for a GM, an Edge PbP game that I've been running for a couple weeks pretty much fell through, and I'm free. The only caveat is that I've never run Age before. I tend to mainly focus on Firefly style games, where the players are just trying to survive and stay out of any galactic conflicts. That being said, I'm a big fan of the Empire, so it could be an interesting shift in GMing. Let me know if you're interested.

I run all of my games purely through Discord, using the D1C3 dice roller.

@Kabal That would be cool if the times were right for it.

Guess we're going Knight Level for the characters?

For me, I'm going Engineer: Sapper and Soldier: Heavy.
