Wedge and full Pivot...yes, I've searched

By keltheos, in Rules

Can't tell if this has been resolved or what based on searches in the forum, but what's the prevailing consensus (or is there a ruling) on whether Wedge's full pivot is a free pivot action or costs an action. I've seen it 'ruled' by posters both ways based on how it's written, but I still think it's a free action to 'activate' the full pivot rule for Wedge but that full pivot itself requires an action be spent. Thoughts/etc?

Free to activate, still pay the cost for the pivot itself.

Wedge's card gives you a free action to gain the "Full Pivot" ability. This ability in turn modifies the Pivot action (which, being a move action, takes an action to do).

I'm really not sure where the confusion lies.

I think it is funny they gave him 360 degree pivot, when 180 degree pivot would have accomplished the same thing.

If I had a T-47 with Wedge and an action to spare, I would totally pick it up, rotate in a complete circle, and put it back down facing the same way! #WedgeDoingDonuts

I think the 360 thing is to avoid any sort of problem with players that are wanting accuracy to 3 decimal places.

or for those players who can only turn left

In that regard, it makes it more likely that the next Pilot for a 'speeder will be Derek Zoolander.

Does he get a special ability Blue Steel? Is it a force power?

Wedge is a free action. The result of that action, is modifying your Pivot action, so that when you TAKE a picot action you can do a super pivot.

Basically yeah you'll still need to spend an action to pivot.

And the 360 thing is an effort to stop rules lawyers from getting into a geometry debate, citing "Turning RIGHT is from 0 - 180 degrees, but turning LEFT is 360 to 181 degrees, so Wedge only lets you turn ONE direction, not both."

So maybe they should have said pivots are π/2 radians, +-

there might be a future reason why he is 360 instead of 180. After all, unlike other upgrades hes not bound to the T47, hes bound to repulsor vehicles. meaning we can slap him in any repulsor vehicle that has the slot (Weiss too btw, ground vehicle only not atst only).

I don't either, but it's been confused in multiple places. I see why someone MIGHT think it's a free action, but showing them that "gains Full Pivot" is the same as "gains the Full Pivot keyword" I think it makes sense to them. I'm sure the first FAQ will have this to shut down the confusion. (well, I would hope so).

Here's where my local player is having the confusion. " By using Wedge Antilles, you can take a free action to perform a Full Pivot—turning his vehicle up to 360 degrees, instead of just 90 degrees. "

FFG articles are notoriously inaccurate when it comes to new units/upgrades/interactions.

Exactly why you can never use articles to discuss rules. Only ever use the rulebook

News articles are so notoriously bad at rule citing that its usually the first thing people look for in a new article is "Fine the screw up!"

I dont even read the article really, its always such a mess. I just look at the cards.

Agreed. Again, hoping they FAQ it to clarify that the blog post was inaccurate.

Ah, as an Imperial only player I had not read that article. That explains the source of confusion, but yeah articles get rules wrong all the time in FFG games.

Keep in mind Wedge has the exhaust icon, so you have to exhaust him to gain the ability to pivot more than 90 degrees for that activation.
