If the Unit Leader does not have line of sight but on of the unit’s troopers do, can that trooper still attack?

There is no requirement for the leader to have LOS, so... yes!

A consequence of this, however, is that the defender is guaranteed to have heavy cover. Because cover is checked from the leader and lack of LOS translates to heavy cover.

So the only way that single trooper could get a successful hit is if he/she rolls a crit?
