So I was playing a Rebel vs. Rebel game today at my FLGS. My opponent bought two core sets.

He then told me that commander specific command cards are not unique and he could have a command deck with 2 each of Return of the Jedi, The Force is My Ally and Son of Skywalker plus Standing Orders.

We talked about it and I stated pretty clearly that I thought this was an absurd interpretation of the rules. To be fair they don't have a dot on them indicating unique and the rule book doesn't explicitly say that you can only field a single copy of each of a commander's cards.....but it felt to me like it was wildly against the intent of the rules.

He eventually agreed to play with singles of Luke's command cards. I said I'd be putting this out to the community

Thoughts?

But each copy of a card IS unique

they lack the pips for being unique because you cant have a repeat of ANY command card, commander specific or not.

Yup. Only one of any command card per deck. Not multiples of A command card.

Yeah, that guy is probably a riot to play with. Time to find more players.

Making the assumption it was malicious rather than a mistaken time from a game everyone is still learning us a little harsh.

I agree with @Drasnighta on this one. It's a new game. The player just does not know (ignorance) because the game is so new. AND when a player does do something that is "fishy" because we don't all know the rules perfectly either, when on the spot, we don't always know where to go to counter it.

In this case, the player trying to use 2 each of Return of the Jedi, The Force is My Ally and Son of Skywalker was in the wrong, but I don't think it was malicious.

He wasn't malicious at all. In fact, he was really a super chill "fly casual" player. He made his case that they aren't unique (which follows a certain labeling for everything else FFG puts out) but agreed to default to the more common interpretation since there was a dispute. He has since agreed with the piece that Thoras put up.

I look forward to playing him again.

not a malicious or "that guy" player until he starts arguing his side, regardless of how many people say otherwise.
