Suppression, recover.

By Wren01, in Rules

Hey, me and a gaming buddy are having a descussion about removing suppression and recover actions. Basically we can’t decide wether or not after a recover action we get back the second action OR is it just one action because we were suppressed to start with??

From page 21:

After the “Rally” step of a trooper unit’s activation, if that
unit has a number of suppression tokens assigned to it that
is equal to or greater than that trooper’s courage value, that
unit is suppressed. A suppressed unit performs one fewer
action during its activation.

The check for suppression only happens immediately after the Rally step. So a unit is suppressed for the duration of it's activation regardless of whether it gains or loses suppression tokens or if its Courage value changes (such as by moving closer to a commander).

This is really poorly written in the rules IMO, You have to think about the steps, During the "Rally" Step, basically the very first thing you do, you try and rally and remove your suppression tokens. Once you move to the perform actions steps and recover. Since you already lost a action by being suppressed during the Perform action phase there is no where that allows you to go back and get an action back, it was already lost.

Rally Step

During the “Rally” step of a unit’s activation, the player who controls that unit rolls one white defense die for each suppression token that unit has. Then, one suppression token is removed from that unit for each block (?) or defense surge () result the roll produces.

  • » During the “Perform Actions” step of a trooper unit’s activation, if it has a number of suppression tokens assigned to it that is equal to or greater than its courage value, a player can perform only one action instead of two (plus any number of free actions).

If a unit has a number of suppression tokens that is equal to or greater than double its courage value, that unit becomes panicked.

  • » If a panicked unit no longer has a number of suppression tokens equal to or greater than double its courage value, that unit is no longer panicked and removes its panic token.

Recover Step

A unit can recover by performing a recover action. When a unit recovers, a player removes all suppression tokens from that unit and readies all of the unit’s exhausted upgrade cards.
