Deflect

By VAYASAN, in Rules

Just played my first few Learning Games

I think I took in most of what was meant to be happening but I have a question regards Deflect.

Scenario.

Vader moves into open ground and applies Dodge.

5 Troopers shoot at him.

Troopers roll 4 hits.

Vader rolls 2 Surges.

Now im confused. If I spend a Dodge token, do both surges become deflects?

What about using the dodge token for rerolling a defence dice? If that rolls surge, is that an extra deflect making 3 for this example?

sounds about right

Actually something else that popped into my mind.

I think it says the enemy suffers Wounds = number of deflects. Do they get to roll defence dice?

Nope, its straight up wounds.

Also make sure you get your timing right for Dodge - I think it comes before you roll defense dice.

So its case of Vader has a dodge token.

Troopers shoot him and get 4 hits.

THEN Vader uses a Dodge token.

He gets 2 Surges, so 2 deflects, then uses he reroll for and gets a 3rd Surge, so 3 deflects which leaves 3 enemy troopers dead?

If thats right I have it. Thats all.

You would have to declare the deflect before rolling the block dice, the dodge token removes one hit, you roll 3 dice, get 2 Defense surges leaving one wound for Vader and 2 wounds back on the attacker. The Dodge token cancels a hit, they don’t let you Re-roll dice. If in doubt check out p. 24 of the RRG.

Thanks, was thinking Dodge = a reroll (Think I played it riht earlier, just got it wrong typing here).

So Vader has dodge.

Hes hit 3 times.

He declares he will use the Dodge token.

Rolls 2 surges and 1 blank.

Vader takes no damage(dodge cancels the 1 hit) and the 2 deflects thanks to the 2 surges?

That is right except Vader would only roll 2 defense dice since when he spends his dodge token, there are only 2 hits left, not three.

Of course.

Thanks.

Not quite.

1) Troopers shoot-- counting all hits, rerolls from Aim, applying surge (if applicable)

2) Vader applies any Dodge or Cover-- so the dodge token is spent here. This would cancel one hit per token spent.

3) Vader rolls defensive dice. One Red die per hit remaining.

4) Because of Deflect, any surges are converted to blocks. Deflect also applies hits to the attacker for each surge rolled.

For example:

Vader moves into the open and takes a Dodge token (from either the action or force powers)

Troopers activate, take Aim and fire

Say they roll 5 hits after aim token is spent

Vader spends dodge. 4 hits remaining

Vader rolls 4 dice-- 2 surges, one block, one blank.

Surges are converted to blocks and deflected back.

Vader blocks 3 hits, taking one damage, and the Troopers take 2 hits.

2 wounds, not hits.
