Speeder keyword and terrain

By Big Easy, in Rules

How do you handle barricades and little bits of scatter terrain with Speeder vehicles? Especially the T-47 with such a huge base. I find it impossible not to constantly land on bits of terrain that it's allowed to ignore but can't do so practically. My options are to pick up terrain, hold the mini in my hand, or avoid all terrain rendering the unit pretty useless.

This is specifically for small terrain that I can't plop the unit on top of without it falling over.

Maybe pick up the terrain and place it on top of the speeder’s base?

You just don't complete the move. Move the speeder back along the movement tool until it is no longer overlapping and place it.

You only take damage from this if you are A.) moving off the board or B.) stopped by a piece of terrain over the height indicated by the Speeder rule on the card.

This is what we did. It was a little janky, but somehow less janky than any other option.

This was my working understanding as well, but in a map area that has a handful of scatter and barricades all barely 2" high, it effectively means a speeder is off limits. That just seems so antithematic for a speeder 2 vehicle. It's also something to keep in mind when designing and placing terrain for sure.

Additional things that may stop speeder movement during a Compulsory move, which MAY result in a partial move and damage;

Ground units engaged with other ground units
Non-Trooper Units in the Speeders final position.

I feel like the above definitely result in a partial move and damage. The terrain one is more tricky since there are several cases where the speeder could move through it, or onto it, but may not be able to fully rest in its final position (ie edge of a cliff, or on a pointy rock). The barricade example seems to fit here, where you simply place it as far as you can, and consider it a full move.

I have a question about speeder ability, it has 1 in bikes so it means that I have to move in the activation a 3 distance ruler 1 time or 1 distance ruler??

With the rebel unit with the same ability but it has 2 instead 1... its then 2 times or 2 distance ruler?

Because it has the speeder keyword and it’s a repulsar vehicle means that it must make a cumpolsory move at full speed regardless of the number behind the keyword. That number dictates what height of terrain it can ignore. Speeder 1 lets you ignore terrain height 1 or lower when moving. Speeder 2 lets you ignore terrain height 2 or lower.

So I have been recently going through the rules reference and it states that repulsor vehicles are able to land on objects less than or equal the height of the model during a standard movement. Therefore, according to the rules, you should be able to land on the barricade and NOT be forced to perform a partial move and take damage.

They can actually land on terrain up to range x, x being the value from the Speeder keyword on their card. Example, Speederbikes are Speeder 1, so they can land on terrain up to Range 1 from the range ruler, which is 6 inches.

The issue in your example is that in order to land on terrain the miniature needs to be able to rest on it without falling over. The rules are not currently clear on this, but comments from FFG seems to be you pull back the mini and land it as close as you can, but do not take damage... a basic compromise. This should be on the revision of the RRG that is coming soon.
