Rogue Dakotan's Legion Painting

By Rogue Dakotan, in Painting

Man your squads are coming together and look really cool. I still might suggest thinning your paint a little more.

Your airspeeder looks super, but I have to say that base might be the best base I have ever seen. Super visually interesting and epic without being overly complex. I am really, really impressed with that.

@Rogue Dakotan ... the statue came out great.

You know, the Duro makes me think more of the Nicholson version of the Joker...

Finished Leia. Colors not inspired by any character in particular. Just picked some colors that I had already used in other units so she should fit in well color wise.

Now the question is how to paint my fleeties? I'm leaning towards using Ahsoka or Rex as inspiration for the colors but idk. maybe just standard but with orange instead of blue...

Wow, I like your Leia a lot. It’s a great eye catching color scheme that matches the miniature really well even though it’s not from any pre-existing source material. Well done!

For Ahsoka, try orange shirt with dark brown jacket and blue detailing on white helmets.

For Rex, try grey shirt with white jackets and a blue stripe on the back, with the unit leader having more blue markings on them.

Leia looks great.

Sneak peek at Ezra Squad. Just have bases left to do.

First go at Stormtroopers. I wasn' treally in the mood to go all out so I didn't put much detail into the armor.

Just an action shot from a game last night since I haven't painted anything in a while.

Yes, i can confirm this. I painted the movement tool and the bases from the ground vehicles. They are not fitting so well anymore. Or in other words, when placing the movement tool into the vehicles, the color is getting scrapped.

I will have to sand down a bit from the movement tools.

This is true. I just set it on top of the base notch instead though and it's not a problem. What's it going to impact movement by? A half millimeter?

Maybe it's the lighting or something, no offense but your Imperial Assault stuff looked almost professional grade, your Legion stuff is pretty average. Like it was painted by two different people. Are you running into unforseen problems of some kind?

Do you mean in general? Or just the stormtroopers?

If you just mean the stormtroopers, it's because I haven't been very motivated to paint my Imperials for Legion and sorta half-assed these guys.

That would make sense. The rebels look a lot more like your IA stuff. I've been half-assing everything about Legion because I want to get multiple armies in the field yesterday.

Yeah, it is just the sear volume of minis you have to paint for legion compared to IA. Keeping up the high quality on so many of them is just too much time. I know a few on this board spend that amount of time and it pays off but I rather my army be fully painted and done than have half painted really nice.

Sheer volume? In LEGION? This game uses far fewer figures than pretty much anything except "warband" style games like Mordheim. I mean sure it's more than IA but... it's really a very low headcount for a miniatures game. Especially nowadays. Back in the 80's and 90's armies of 25/28mm sci-fi figures were like 40ish. But historicals and fantasy games then as now, and modern sci-fi games, use way more.

Yeah, I am just going to call 56 figures between my 6 storm and 2 snow troopers squads a lot. That isn't counting 6 speeder bikes or Vader/Veers. I know some games us more, but people generally take much longer to build their armies than a couple of months.

One thing about these figures for me is, they sure do paint up fast. I've painted 1.5 core sets, 2 squads of snowtroopers, Veers, and a T-47 in like a month.

56 stormtroopers would have been a lot to collect to in D6 days though that is very true. Usually 30 was like the max you'd collect of any one troop type for that game. 20 was way more typical.

I painted up my entire core set minus the speeder bike riders in about 2 weeks. Pretty good for my first ever minis

LOL for tabletop quality (although my standard is probably a bit higher than most) I spend about 5 to 10 hours on a mini, so that is at best 1 or 2 minis a week, for a proper paintjob I've been known to spend 40+ hours on a single mini :P

my count so far is one unit of rebels and 4 stormtroopers, I hope to get the core box finished before X-mas, and that's only if I don't get distracted by any Non- legion minis, but I do have at least 1 miniatures kickstarter that should deliver in the next few weeks so who knows :P
