Custom Investigators

The only thing I don't like about Jake is he has two skill checks that are very similar Sneak/ Evade I would

  1. make them both the same i.e. Sneak/ Sneak or Evade/ Evade
  2. Remove one of the skill checks

I would remove the Murderer in the East End Sneak check... he was Sneaky at killing and the bondies where not found until later (later being after the world being destroyed by the AO). Most people wouldn't mind a few dead bodies after seeing a Star Spwan walking around down town!

The MitEE sneak check is an essential part of balancing the character (it also fills him with vitamin K— vitamin KILL). Besides, you're assuming that the Victorian Jack the Ripper and the Jack the Ripper of Arkham should behave the same ;') it's been a long time since then, and who knows what has changed, what deals have been made.

As for sneak sneak, I agree with that, but if I were to play him, I'd just tell players that he can't use Mists I think.

Actually Sothis, can I take you up on your offer of making me a slightly modified version? Could you put up another one that is sneak sneak and that also has the line of text (for the second sneak), "Items that provide a bonus to evade may be used for this roll." Otherwise my urge to kill will be unquenchable ;') except maybe with Snapple.

Thaaaaank Youuuuuuu :')

Of course, you can disregard this, but when you hear the news reports "Arkham Horror player goes on killing spree, says he is 'The Ripper,'" it will be your fault ;')

Getting arrested is indeed very rare. That's why I considered giving him "Wanted", so it would be a real threat whenever having an Arkham Encounter. But that didn't work out so well for the reasons originally stated. You're right that there's no need to allow an easy roll on that one since it's rare.

No I cannot give an example of a non-monster Evade check. (And I don't want to look through all the cards to find one! ;) ) I agree, the spell just isn't clear.

I definitely want to keep the terror increase in there though. That's a crucial part of it IMO. Whitechapel was quite literally terrorized by the Ripper. And even in Arkham, I don't think people would be unfazed by the appearance of dead women with organs removed. That's messed up on a par with anything cultists do in the game.

So what's the purpose of changing both checks to Sneak then? If you specifically put "Evade bonus items can be used", then you're altering it just for the sake of Mists right? Having it stay an Evade check, but ruling that Mists only applies to monsters, is a much simpler and less wordy option that does the same thing. And since Mists can be equally interpreted either way I can't see how anyone would find your suggestion easier to work with. I would think anyone reading it would say "If Evade bonuses can be used, then why is it a Sneak check? Evade checks are Sneak checks that can use Evade bonuses."

But of course, I wouldn't want you drinking too much Snapple and going on a hooker-killing spree so here it is. Having that on my conscience is something I've always feared. ;) Please clarify with regard to my last paragraph though, I'm genuinely curious what you perceive is the difference.

Yes, it would be altered primarily to exclude mists (but by adding in this wording it also excludes items like The Silver Key— anything that lets you auto-evade really). Still, you'd be able to use stuff like Dark Cloak, Pallid Mask, and Military Motorcyle for their bonuses (all of which make sense, kindof), while not allowing autopass items, or near certain pass spells.

Hey, I happen to really enjoy the idea of the occasional terror increases as the result of his ability :') not only have I never seen an investigator that actually *increases* the terror level, it's also very appropriate storywise. I mean, seriously, if the South Side strangler raises the terror level ;') I think this guy should too. Blood murals and organ theft galore are a bit scarier than purple faced corpses.

Anyways, either way it won't matter too much as arrests are rare in Arkham ::evil grin::

Errr, one last complaint :') could you post a higher quality jpg of this card? Currently I can see blurry sections around text in multiple areas of this card, and when I go to print it out, I'd like it to have a similar quality to the other cards, at least visually.

But Strange Eons does charge $10, which means the only way to get it for free without "UNBALANCED" would be to put it in the Abilities section. But that would mean Jack would have way too much text there and it would be ugly.

Ach... So "Unbalanced" is definitely mandatory? (I don't know, I don't make characters). Ah well. Skip it :')

There is a way to switch off the 'Unbalanced' watermark, somewhere in the programme's options.

Kroen: seems like good work on the Psychiatrist. This seems like such a simple and useful special ability that I'm surprised it doesn't already exist.

It does. The ally Granny Orne gives it to you.

Heh... as for switching off the "Unbalanced" it would be helpful to know where it is ;') Anyone?

Oooo shiney.

:') Thanks.

Fireblaze said:

First of all, it doesn't say if he can draw randomly, second of all, if I were playing a game with this guy, I'd have everyone go shopping. Then I'd start bumping up the terror level. I won't quite say he's broken... But I think he's seriously overpowered— especially if it's select and not draw at random. Also, he'll be able to succeed at Join The WInning Team too easily. Getting this guy 4 or five allies is just too easy (having put a bit more thought into it, you'd actually want to have him draw allies the first two turns because the odds of the terror rising at that point are miniscule, and even if it does, it's only the common item shop.

I don't know if it's possible to post a printable quality picture here. I can try it but it might still suck. Dunno how big a file you can post as an image in these forums.

I'm pretty sure it is. Look at other images posted on the forums. Many of them lack the blurred text effect.

Also, Morgain said how to add Silver Twilight Lodge Membership without getting unbalanced.

Okay try this. It's huge so it should look good when you size it for printing. I also put the Lodge membership on there for ya.

::laughter:: didn't need to be *that* high quality ;'D

As for the character icon ;') I'm just going to use the Dexter Drake token (it looks similar enough).

Oh, c'mmon, that ripper guys was posted like three times and was critiqued every single time. On the other hand all of the investigators I've been posting in the last three pages were completely ignored. I'm not an attention seeker or a troll, it's just that it takes me quite the time to make these investigators and it really hurts that they're completely ignored. From the art finding, to the design, and finally to the making it takes me about 10-15 minutes to create each investigator. Not cool you guys, not cool.

i like your Jessy character, kroen. a bit boring having all threes, but i like where u are going with it. Maybe like 22334 or something for the sliders?? i dont know. plus dont think people are ignoring you i think the forums have been pretty dead as of late.

Perhaps it has something to do with you not taking suggestions from anyone, frequently snapping at people, and not giving responses to anyone else's creations. Except an occasional bit of sarcasm.

That's lame! Why wouldn't you use the right token? :D

Also lol'd that it takes "quite the time" to make investigators, at 10-15 minutes each. That's so fast it's ridiculous. I wouldn't be done with any single part of an investigator in that timeframe. And besides, that Ripper was "critiqued every single time" by only one person who happened to like the creation as much as I did. A second person chimed in briefly twice. You're overreacting as usual, kroen. Every 10 minute custom card is not going to cause an uproar. I've posted plenty of stuff that was ignored.

Most of the stuff I've posted I worked on for two to three hours.

I've single handedly made this forum active and this is how you repay me? screw you. I'm done. Let's see how active this forum would be without me.

hmmm... Mind If I make a Jack? (gonna do it anyways lengua.gif ) dark cloak, good ol boring Knife... stabby stab... you see! btw where you get the picture for Jack?

I just used google image search and found it pretty quick. Go ahead and make whatever you want!

And kroen, no one needs to repay you because no one owes you anything. As many people have tried to tell you, your posts are often very harsh and defensive. Your last two posts here are just more examples proving the point. There's little incentive to critique your creations because you rarely listen anyway, and you're certainly not nice about it. Yes there would be a lot less posts without you but it's nothing anyone would worry about. This forum did fine before you and will continue fine once you're gone. And frankly it would be nice not to have your brand of attention-seeking yet negative personality splattered on every forum.

It's not all about you. No one "owes" you respect or anything else. You have to earn that.

I am the bad guy? I've been working my ass making investigators and no one even bothers to say anything about them. I think I have the right to get pissed off. I want to see how you feel after posting 10 investigators without a critique to any of them.

You selfish bastards.
