Custom Investigators

Since you are so kind and smart, would you like to play an Harkham Horror friendly game with me?

I mean by email. I have produced for my solo games a new SaveState excel file we can use for our game.

Four characters each one and all the first six expansions.

My interest is also literary, since you can see grow a real Lovecraft story simply playing...

Salconte, thank you for the invitation :-) I'd love to, but this is not the best moment for doing it. Too many things to do in a hectic life that forces me to play very rarely, and I don't want to start something I can give the proper attention to. I'm already attending Avi's advanced players league, and in a couple of months I should start playing the new French League (being the winner of the second edition, I really want to defend my crown :-)). And there are too many things still to do. But thank you.

Anyway, if you need somebody to play with via e-mail, just open a thread in the main section of the forum, you'll probably find somebody to play with! And in case, you can search via the Arkham player locator to spot somebody near you and have a "live" game :-)

Azathoth investigator is just a joke.

And, btw, he stays LiTaS if all other investigators sacrifice stuff to keep him there.

As for House, he'll need money for his Addiction. So, tecnically, he needs money to treat. He's also has one less total stamina/sanity point and poor physical parameters.

Very nice...

Thank you so much...

You should still count the addiction as half when balancing since his power takes away the devouring effect.

Thought I would give Strange Eons a go. Haven't played with this investigator yet, would like some input.

Spike doesn't really balance with other existing allies, the examples we have that increase maximum sanity and stamina (Duke and Sir William Brinton) only increase that and do not also include an additional bonus like spikes lore boost.

At first glance I like Twilight's powers but would worry if they aren't too powerful when paired. Doubling the effects of a tome can be powerful under the right circumstances but add an extra clue token to that? King in Yellow could potentially net 9 clue tokens in one go and if you doubled the effect of De Vermiis Mysteriis (close a gate to close 2 gates) that could be a game ender right there.

She seems like she would have a nice unique feel to her though, focusing on her reading abilities is a good route to take.

By your suggestions, I should remove the +1 Lore bonus from Spike(Twilight already has decent lore scores). Also, I should look at her special abilities. How about allowing Broad Knowledge if Thorough Reader has not been attempted? That way, you could chance doubling the effects of the Tome, or get a guaranteed Clue token, not both at the same time.

Also, I may want to change her title. How does Celestia's Favored Student sound?

Those changes sound reasonable, play testing could confirm how well it all works. As for the title Celestia's Favored Student can work, also something like The Element of Magic could work. (yes I know way too much about MLP for a 34 year old man......but.....I have kids so I have an excuse)

Ooh, you can have them fight my Nightmare Moon herald I made awhile back!

Also, Twilight should definitely have a little more will.

All revised and ready for testing! I'll have to try out that Nightmare Moon AO out as well. Also made a Discord AO, which will be posted in the relevant thread.

As for an excuse to watch MLP:FiM, "it's a good show" seems to suffice.

Good man!

I mean, I like saw it when my err daughter/little sister/niece/something watched it. It was amusing but I am far too manly a man to have watched.. umm..

Nevermind.

This is my first investigator, so I'm not sure how he would work. My thinking behind him was that, as a bellhop, he would discover all of these weird items in a visitor's room and suddenly find himself in the middle of everything.

He's pretty good, but why did you remove the extra Stamina from him? I'd toss a couple of his spells and give him more standarized (6/4) stats. I really like his ability though - unique and useful.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking that the bellhop looked fragile, so I got rid of a stamina, but what you say makes sense. Dropping a spell for a normal 6/4 would work.

One old updated with two new invests.

Saw recenlty one Ashley Williams on the web, he was a nice idea, but his design seemed broken from my perspective, so I decided to make my version.

Somewhy there is no "Edit" button on my previous post, so I will just post the updates in a new one:

I think House was much better before... And though the original Harried card would have been good for him, I don't think the revised version makes much sense. Same thing with Erica as an ally. I assume that has some reference to him always having a hot girl as part of his staff, but I don't think it's the best fit. I would have said to add the "addiction" madness card, but I like how the Leg Infarction implies his vicodin addiction with the $1 or 1 sanity.

Anyway, here's my take on him, borrowing liberally from your version...

Gregory-House-Front-Face.jpg

I put Erica and Herried to make sense of his appearance in Arkham at least a bit. Try reading his story and personal story.

And Erica is a good balance choice for his since he has a lot of money-draining stuff and she brings Retainer with her.

Oh, and there is lack of information there.

THe real wording is:

Upkeep: Once per turn,
may spend all his focus to restore 2 Stamina to any investigator in his location, including himself. If he does, then he may spend 2 Clues to roll a die, discarding 1 Injury from investigator being cured on success.

Yeah, I hadn't read the backstory. But the thing is, there's a point when trying to integrate things for the sake of not being anachronistic can detract from what makes the character interesting to begin with. If I'm playing with a character of Gregory House, it's already going to feel anachronistic, regardless of the backstory, and perhaps moreso when what is used to fix the anachronism draws more attention to that. You know what I mean?

So I'd prefer to just embrace the anachronism. Or what I would think, instead, is that Gregory House as we see him on TV today is a modern character based on a real diagnostician that lived back in the 20's. And that's who this investigator is. That would help me bridge the timeframe disparity better in my mind. And that way, you don't need to add other items or things that don't seem to fit him as well, and you can add more things that do fit the character (e.g., the motorcycle).

This gives me an idea, to create a sort of "epidemic" scenario that features House and perhaps some other characters from the cast (Cuddy, Wilson, Forman, etc.). Anyway, that might be another thread at another time.

It's not House from TV todays, he's him before starting relationships with Cuddy - it's an early House. And I think I created a nice little story, if we put away this character from being House - it's a nice character with interesting mechanic from my point of view.

If anyone wants to write a Story so Far and personal story for Mr. Carter feel free. I'll get to it eventually but since I'm pretty lazy I doubt it'll be any time soon.
