Fun fact. According to the descriptions in the original story Hyde was actually smaller than Jekyll.
Custom Investigators
@Veet: I read that when I was looking up the origins and personality of Dr. Jekyll. Interesting, but I think the "monster" idea has become the norm.
4 more!
Based on the Deadlands: Doomtown IP. They're the insane Whateley family members and a nod to Lovecraft...so why not?
The eventual patriarch of the family. Snazzy dresser and deadly huckster. Based on his endless and notorious huckster card deck and ability to manipulate creatures.
Nicodemus' monster collecting wife, Dolores. The allied monster makes her very low fight and will usable:
Tzipporah, the beautiful but deadly sister...with a HUGE gun:
My favorite obscure Whateley member: Requiem and his trusty steed Greenhorn. He made dudes at his location Terrors...so essentially corrupting them for a turn or more. He's believed to be a spirit or undead.
I really like the Doomtown IP and it's been in limbo for some time. Perhaps FFG can acquire a license to make new board games. There were a plethora of factions, and all were interesting.
Some great ability ideas there. I'd have to look closer later to comment further, but on a glance they seem really good. I'm glad you've joined the forums here. Keep 'em coming.
Yeah, those are all great characters. The only one I find a little questionable is Requiem, as its perhaps a little unclear how that works... Do they become Cursed if they move through his location, or he through theirs? Or just when they end their movement at his location? I'm wondering if it might be better to have it so it functions the same (though opposite) way as it does for Requiem, so other investigators roll as if Cursed whenever they share his location. So they don't actually become Cursed, but while in his location any skill checks they make only succeed with 6's. It might be a bit harsh to actually curse others each time you cross paths with anyone. It's interesting, regardless, though.
Could you please upload higher quality versions of these and/or post links to the EON files? I'd like to play with some of these characters sometime.
Yeah Requiem would be less ambiguous and a little more characterful if other investigators needed 6's for successes rather that being Cursed. It would give the effects of both Cursed and Blessing without actually having it...very enigmatic.
I'll post the regular files on here tomorrow. Might have some Diablo related charcters up soon too. Once I find my Doomtown cards I want to go through them and scan the art to make my favorites.
@Grudunza: I have them as TIFF files now (2 per page, Spring-heel on the last page with all the double-ended character markers). Where can I host them? I usually keep everything on Photobucket since I don't have anywhere to host images.
I'm also going to go through my Doomtown cardsscan my favorites to make investigatorsan additional AO. I'll put those on my Photobucket (with link) if anyone wants to use some cool character images.
I don't think they need to be TIFF files. JPEGS are fine, but whatever resolution you had before was pretty bad. What I usually do for investigators/GOOs/heralds is export them at full resolution (300 dpi) as PNGs,then change the resolution to 150save them as JPGS to post to Photobucket (and share here). That way, I still have the original PNGs to be able to print at the best quality, but the quality is still very good for printingthe file size more manageable for web posting.
Here ya go
Here are my friendsI, in investigator form. I still need to make about 7 more ( Foreign Exporter, Civil Engineer, Producer, Diplomat, Belle, War Veteran) lol
Dustin, the motorcycle adrenaline junky, avid book reader, daredevil:
Boop, the airport supervisor (I add that his Rail Movement is free once per turn) 6'8" giant...he has your back:
Shea the social butterfly entertainer/script writer with no credit and an uncanny ability to get deathly feverish:
Stuart the highly traditional, warrior-trained modern day samurai (should be $7 with -1 stamina):
ME! lol. Illustrator, a library of reference books on every subject known to man, gun enthusiast with almost photographic memoryjust a wee bit insane.
BTW I hate Photobucket with a passion. When you replace files, a lot of times it still copies and pastes the previous one...what gives?
Great. Thanks! I'll definitely play with the Whateleys sometime.
Yay, first Characters! Be gentle!
Browsing through some of these, the one's I enjoy the most are 'themed' characters, who are from other franchises, but still fit nicely into the theme. Which means there's only one Character that I had to do immediately. Enjoy the good Doctor!
Pretty good. I like the Regeneration effect in particular. I think that Sonic Screwdriver would be a great item if it were discarded after using, or had some other limitation/danger to its use. Just being exhausted, though, it will effectively make all sealings cost only 3 Clues (at least, those done by whoever has the item, but it can be easily passed on to people entering gates). That's way too powerful.

Yeah I was debating that. Would it be less powerful if only the Doctor could use it? Because I designed the Doctor specifically to be terrible at fighting Monsters, it's supposed to give him a very specific edge - gate closing. I know I don't want it to be discarded, but I also definitely do not want it to cost Sanitysomething (as it's the Doctor's favorite tool!). Maybe a limitation on when it can be unexhausted?
If you want The Doctor to be terrible at fighting monsters you should change his "I don't want to hurt you" power to saying he can't use guns.
As for the sonic screwdriver it does need nerfed, It basically changes the requirements to win the game from 30 clue tokens to 18, which is huge. I would possibly even make it only be a once per game thing.
How about 1) Making it so only the Doctor can use it on a gate he is closing, and 2) making it only unexhaust (or whatever the technical term is) on a successful die roll?
You're still looking at reducing the required clues by 4-6 since at that point The Doctor would be the obvious choice for sealing duty and he doesn't have to gather as many clues so he doesn't take as long to close the gates so he closes more than anyone else. Also refreshing on a success means that it would refresh every 3 turns and it takes that long to get to jump in a gate and go through another world so that really isn't a disadvantage. I would suggest having it lower the difficulty modifier of gates instead.
That fits thematically fairly well, so I'll make that change.
Here are 6 more investigators!
Francis, the familiar "cousin". His boss is an insignificant, almost host-like ally:
(Might have to say "once per turn by Francis' Intervene")
William Badson, abomination and adopted prodigal son to Jebediah Whateley, Nicodemus' older brother:
(Might make it to where the power tokens stay next to the skill pairs, and when all 3 sets have had one, you discard them...to prevent abuse)
Jonah Wheeler, the lightning bolt-prone wanderer:
(I think he should only spend his Power tokens gained by lightning without a pact)
Some of the coolest characters were the Sioux Union members. They banded together to eliminate the demons from the world:
Benjamin, the spirit hunter:
White Horse, the abomination hunter:
Weeping Crow, the shamanistic seer who's visions cannot be shared by others:
(when using augury, the spell he had should be discarded or put on top of the deck?)
Enjoy...lots more scanned lol
Here's a rebalanced Screwdriver, and the Doctor with it!
Well, this is my first attempt at a custom Investigator. Any constructive criticism would be appreciated.
I apologize, but I can think of nothing to criticize. He seems superbly balanced. In all ways. Well done.
Some more:
Lucifer, Nicodemus' devil child:
Melissa, the ordinary spell slinger revealed to be a sire:
Sweetrock character 1: the engineer...all Sweetrock will have an ally and a unique item as they are a large and powerful company and get what they want.
Sandra, the expert decoder.
I may at some point make a Gomorra board and expansion to fit the Doomtown theme. It'd be quite a feat, but wouldn't be too difficult since the game was rife with unique elements that could be added to Arkham Horror.
Bah, double post. Oh well, here are a couple extra:
The Sniper:
Lukas, the special ops scientist:
And possibly my favorite character, the only one able to cast any spell. I believe the spanish is wrong, but that's how his name was spelled:
That's a whole lotta deadlands! Maybe you should think about making a themed expansion? I really like some of your ideas; particularly Melissa's ability with steal life. I would suggest; however, that on most of these investigators, you lower the number of fixed possessions they have. It makes it more interesting when you aren't quite sure what you're going to get, and it makes you play a little differently. It can also promote finding new uses for investigator abilities and items. Another thing to consider would be putting some of their abilities in personal story cards, so that they don't start out quite so powerful, but have the ability to become more powerful as the story progresses. Melissa's occult affinity is a great example of this.
Great work! I like the theme, and it's always good to see new ideas.
Thank you! Yeah, as I make these it makes sense to just do a whole expansion lol. I never intended to make these so in depth as to create the personal story cards, or even to do the background stories on the reverse side of the investigator cards, however if and when I do more with them, I will definitely consider your ideas about more randomization and granting abilities through their stories (I like making characters with 2 sets of abilities lol)...excellent feedback!
