Custom Great Old Ones

If you smelllllllll...what the Avi...is cookin'.

(Which presently appears to be lethal zombie death in the form of a Herald. I can't imagine lethal zombie death is a terribly attractive smell, so you may want to wear noseplugs or a gas mask or something for a while.)

Well... I can do the eyebrow thing.

I've in fact got some interesting ideas for a very hard variant, possibly, that incorporates a random chance of gate bursts...

Personally, I hate gate bursts as a regular mechanic. Make more than one of them occur per game, and, well, I won't be trying it ;'D likewise, I don't there are that many other people who want to seal 8 or nine gates per game. Just keep that in mind.

Huh...really? I could've sworn I saw a note elsewhere on the boards where someone asked "how many gate burst cards should I include" and a few others answered that you should stuff in as many as you can. :-P

Anyway, even if I do it, it'd be on yet another variant one, so you're free to use whichever Barganon version you want. ^_^

Heh... I think the context (if I remember correctly) was when creating a custom deck. And that reply was more than a bit tongue in cheek. I think the decks should be somewhat proportional when edited, not crammed with gate bursts.

So many variants! My eyes are swirling!

Ah, okay. Misread it, then. ^_^ I'd somehow gotten the impression that people loved gate bursts and wanted as many as possible. ^_^ (I did question that, but you guys do willingly pay money to hurt yourselves more , so...)

People like the *threat* of gate bursts. They don't actually like having several of them showing up and ruining their carefully played games ;'D Usually. I'd be screaming if I got more than two in a game.

Hey, all. I think I gave an incorrect link to the Eon file on here, for this and for the current version of the Herald. The link I've got seems to request you to sign in, and I didn't intend that to be required.

So, here goes for a new link . Hopefully this one will work without requiring sign-in...if it does, I'll repeat the process for the Herald.

Got a chance to work on this stuff again, so there are now new versions available...and I'm sure Avi will be happy to know that I now have hard versions made up. ^_^

The new "Barganon Rex" is different from the original in the following ways:

  1. Trophies no longer receive the toughness bonus from Barganon's "Worshippers" section.
  2. The combat rating is now -4.
  3. A roll of 6 on the Attack phase now makes Barganon regenerate a Doom Token.

Here are the image and eon files for the AOs. I'll post the Heralds in the Herald directory.

Here's a fixed version of Dracula. It's a bit tougher too. It makes double vampires when investigators are defeated. And the art's different. I miss the stronger implication that the defeated investigator becomes a vampire (I'll still think of it that way though), but the mechanics needed alteration, and that trumps theme a little I think.

Wow. Sounds like a tough one! O_O Interesting stuff with the vampires, though. I like the use of them during the final battle (considered something like that with the Tiberius herald's abilities).

I kind of liked the old art, actually, as I recall. More the standard "dignified but horribly evil gentleman" Drac, which is more in keeping with most versions of him I've seen. This one looks more like a zombie or something, honestly, with the head wound.

Heh... The old picture still exists in the alternate section. The blood in this picture isn't quite so overwhelming when the photo is shrunk to normal size ;'D Anyway, Julia complained about it, so I changed it, now you're complaining about it too ;.( I just can't win. To be honest, I was never entirely pleased with the old picture (I only used it because the oldest picture also had complaints there's just no pleasing vampire fans apparently). I would love to have a picture of a more Lovecraftian looking vampire though... (I.e. grotesque, possibly malformed, or alien). If anyone knows where such a picture exists or has a good candidate for one, I'd be happy to repost... A... G... Ain... Yes... Very... Happy...

Vengeance for making me find a non-crappy picture! J/k

Could always just take one of the pics of Count Orlok from the film Nosferatu. Deformed and monstrous, but close enough to human in appearance that you can kind of believe people maybe interacting with this thing (akin to most vampire stories) rather than just screaming and shooting it. Nosferatu was somewhat based on Dracula (though with alterations) from what I hear, so it's reasonably close. Wouldn't name him Orlok, though, since one of the things they took out for Nosferatu was vampiric conversion, and you're heavily playing on that.

I'd go with the dignified look for Dracula, though...that's the iconic image of him, and sometimes the most frightening evils are the ones that aren't so obviously monstrous. Lovecraft had monsters that were not so obviously monsters, too...such as Nyarlathotep in the short story that bears his name (he is said to "look like a pharoah" and to be "of the old native blood," both heavily implying a very human, but dignified appearance)...so I don't really feel that doing so is against Lovecraft. The mortals converted to Vampirism can look monstrous, but Dracula, as the greatest and most powerful, has hidden his obvious evil to better work within the world.

What about this one here ?

Anyway, I'm glad to see the revised version finally posted :-) Thank you Avi!

But in case you'd change the picture, it'd be lovable reading it's a flying spawn monster, has physical immunity and so on ::purring:: not to mention that probably, if you use italics for "Flying", you should use it even for "physical immunity" ::flapping eyelids::

I know, I'm annoying sometimes...

Not quite bloodsoaked, but this one does incorporate the "impaler" part of the Vlad backstory.

This one isn't quite a suggestion...I just liked it.

And here's a kind of good Orlok version.

Found some good, creepy, bloody pics of Christopher Lee as Dracula, but none in a very large size so far, so I don't think they'd show up well. Still looking.

I was a bit tempted by the Orlok one. It has a bit more of the grotesque, but I wasn't crazy about the picture.

I love the facial expression on the first link (TEETH!). I'll use that one after a bit of touch up (and possibly a mirror image reversal). I'll see what I can do with it tonight. Thanks! :'D

Greetings kindly investigators... It's been a long time since I posted anything; been doing a LOT of school trying to get done ASAP. I wanted to run something by the community though. Here it is:

Prokopios

This is meant to pretty much be the flagship AO of my custom expansion, The Price of Progress, which is mostly done, I'm just going back over it now and doing revisions. For those that don't know, doll is a monster designation similar to undead. It doesn't do anything, it's just a keyword.

I originally had this guy with a -3 and physical immunity with magic resistance. I decided that it would be better to go with no resistances and a high -x in order to encourage the investigators to spend money on items. Does this AO seem insidious enough? Is there anything glaring that I'm missing? I look forward to hearing any feedback.

Nice stuff on these forums too, I like seeing all the new blood and new ideas. :)

Welcome back, long time no see ;') I think you still haven't accepted my friend request.

The werewolf scenario was posted. I don't know if you saw it.

It's funny that you used that picture. I had it saved on my computer for potential use someday. Now it's yours I guess ;')

Agreed re: new posters. The last year or so has been very good for custom content, I think.

Just realized I need to add some kind of combat damage to the Mi-Go...
