Sniper C-ROC

By Rakaydos, in X-Wing Epic Play

So, Epic ship Zuckuss. Everyone seems to be trying to combine him with Maul, but Maul is basically a free target lock for the Croc, and not much else. I think everyone has forgotten the old Party Bus build- Zuckuss/4Lom, combining to make each defense die worth only about 1/7th of an evade by denying the opponent's focus token and forcing a reroll of any natural evades.

The Sniper Croc combines this with a Single Turbolaser. Sure, evade dice are doubled. They still cant actually dodge anything though, especially with the Turbolaser's self-focus, and either a sensor team TL or a Weapons Team blank-to-hit. At range 5-3 you can engage well away from the enemy, and at range 1-2 you use your jam action to set up BMSTs on your escorts. The zone of sniper fire also rewards ion weaponry and pre-placed minefields to slow the enemy down.

You could swap 4lom for maul keep zuckuss and ditch gunnery team for thug droids for largely the same result but cheaper. And without ioning yourself you could even pull worrt off to save another point with next to no downside.

3 pts to not have to TL is really nice. And I find crocs feel ion harder than the 666 cause of the energy loss. Gunnery team is eating energy and costing 4pts to accomplish the same objective as mauls 3pts.

Or this:

Croc 35pts

4lom 1

Zuckuss1

Maul 3

Single turbo 8

Optimized gen 5

Merchant one 2

Supercharged cells 3

For 58pts.

Comes in same price has higher energy cap, as all the mods with no actions and space for a thug droid if ya wanna spend 1 more.

This stuff makes me so happy

Right? So nice to talk about builds for a format other than 100/6 for once

without 4lom, you have to assume whoever you shoot at has a focus token. Which means Zuckuss drops from being a 9/64 chance (9/63 = 1/7) of an evade per die, to 25/64 chance per die, or about a 2/5 chance of evade. That doesnt work nearly as well with the Turbolaser doubling evade dice.

4lom is doing more work than a free TL from Maul, even with the energy cost. Gunnery team picks up the slack because there isnt room for 4lom AND maul.

There is room for 4lom zuckuss and maul with merchant one

Interesting. It also lets you put thug droids AND gunnery team, basically guarenteeing 3 hits and a crit on every almost undodgable shot.

About the same as a RAC build... though it's more vulnerable close in than the Woort version.

Biggest threat is multiple focus tokens + autothrusters. Soontier fell would be rolling 8-9 defense die, and have a spare focus token to drop zuckuss's effectiveness, reasonanly rolling 3 focus/evades, plus autothrusters and evade token.

At that point I'd look a siccing something else from the list on said fel and swinging that gun onto something a touch less dodgy...

Pretty cool. Makes me think of a more effective Gozanti sniper build. You can go with more of a debuff version on the Gozanti, but these builds are cool.

More to the point, you're assuming an epic scale ship with what's essentially a single centreline turbolaser can manage to point the dratted thing at Soontir Fel . He's deploying after you, and a speed 5 straight + boost, combined with deploying range 2 into the board, he can pretty much be past your arc in one turn of movement.

The sniper build is a nice one, though. Whilst @Rakaydos 's merchant one is an energy hog, it's not actually using actions, so it can reinforce every turn and not mind, and 63 points for a highly modified 4-dice attack at range 5 isn't that unreasonable.

I'm not sure what I'd take for a 'sniper' gozanti. You start 5 points more expensive, and whilst you have one more shield (but one less hull) and one extra PS, neither of these really makes too much difference.

More importantly, you lack the Zuckuss/4-LOM combination that makes the turbolaser so easy to hit with.

I guess sensor team/suppressor/tarkin does let you do the token stripping from range 5 whilst flinging turbolaser bolts, but said shots are pretty much limited to targeting agility 1 and agility 0 targets that can soak them up.

Oh - whilst we're on the subject of effective turbolaser fire distribution:

Lightweight Frame ships really, really hate turbolasers because they end up short - a TIE/sf or TIE/sk with lightweight frame is technically still only agility 2, not 3, meaning it gets 4 green dice, not 6, and since there are 4 green dice to 4 red dice, it doesn't get lightweight frame either....

I didn't think about the light weight frame vs the turbo laser (good food for thought)

Any one have battle reports on how the C-Roc sniper handles going against the other epic ships and suggest S&V wingmates, Ive been having a hard time witll all the Scum choices to put together a decent epic list with them.

Although I did enjoy building a bounty hunter epic squad (never actually got to play it)

I've blown up T-65's with Single Turbo Lasers, especially when they lack a Focus. If you grrret enough hits and they roll few Evades, you do damage.

Sniper Epics are also good vs other Epics. Might not be worth putting effort to go after it, but might be worth forcing your opponent to deal with it. Good use of points on a flank.
