Nym and Dash - tournament list

By razzer, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm a pretty casual player but am playing a tournament soon. I could try something new but choose to continue with Nym and Dash since I'm comfortable with the pair since awhile, but I am looking to tweak the list a bit.

Previously I've had:

Nym + bomblet + genius + vi + autoblaster turret +havoc+ engine upgrade + advanced sensors or accuracy corrector

Dash + HLC+ Recon specialist + counter measures + outrider + lone wolf

What I'm thinking about now is instead putting a trajectory simulator on Nym, I assume it can be used with genius? Or possibly skipping genius and doing Expertise (nevermind the focus then and using barrel+boost often as actions) and Bombardier instead. The thing then is I won't lose bomblet, and have many ways to bomb, one *or* two back, and five ahead. That's lethal.

As for Dash replacing Recon with c3po (maybe), putting in antilaser pursuit cause as many try to get close and bump Dash as a strategy against him. I would like snapshot but it won't work with with HLC....

What do you think?

Rey is better on Dash, if you have that crew card. If you go with Autoblaster on Nym, use Accuracy Corrector. If you change to TLT, use Advance Sensors.

Don't forget to read the FAQ about Genius, since it may affect how you choose to use Bomblet.

I don't really like Expertise on Nym. He doesn't have a source of rerolls other than Target Locks, and I feel you give up a lot by losing VI.

To the best of our knowledge, Genius and Trajectory Simulator can be used together. However, note that the Genius errata still comes through, and it'll only work if you discard the upgrade (or an ordnance token from it, per Extra Munitions). Taking Proton Bombs, ExM, and TrajSim is nasty (toss on also Ion Bombs to have a few more drops).

Changing distance with bombs is good, but so is the lateral motion of a barrel roll before the drop. With Bombardier, keep in mind that to get TrajSim, you'll need the title, which eliminates your crew slot, so you can't run both TrajSim and Bombardier.

Personally, I don't think there's a hard-and-fast rule of AdvS/AccC depending on turret. It's great to get 2 hits every time on TLTs: you'll never miss against a Miranda or rival Nym, and it puts a lot more pressure on something like a Poe or Dash, but AdvS builds can blank out sometimes. Against a rival Nym, you really don't want to miss and lose the damage race. Alternately, with Autoblaster and a knife-fighting Nym, it's also good to have pre-move actions for position and focus. Accuracy Corrector is a commitment to attempting to do more damage with guns, and Advanced Sensor with bombs. Fly whatever combination suits you best.

Dash is probably best with Rey (you'll be more free to barrel roll than with Recon Specialist) and Countermeasures. Getting Snuggling Compartments with either Scavenger Crane or Rigged Cargo Chute is also nice. RCC is wicked cool on Dash - it's almost a mini-countermeasures if you can force your opponent to shoot through the debris, and Dash can just ignore it later, so feel free to completely gunk up a lane.

Also note Snap Shot and HLC can both be used as both are secondary weapons that do not interact with each other. Give it a try if you think it will discourage close quarters :)

As for Genius + Trajectory Sim... There has been some discussion about that on the Rules sub forum. Consensus appears to be that TS "launch instead of drop" clause nests into the Genius text without conflict, but I would check with the TO before the event starts just to be sure.

Agreed with Rey on Dash. I would also consider trying to find the points for Smuggling Compartment/Scavenger Crane, its very potent.

As for Nym, with the points available after that, here's what I have to say:

Bomblets, VI, Havoc, Genius, are pretty much stapled together. However, you can do a slight budget build by using TS instead of Adv. Sensors or AccCorr, which leaves room for EM, allowing you to Genius a bomblet once. You can still get TLT like that. It has bombing versatility, high PS, reasonable offense, and Dash is Dash, hella adaptable, good against alpha strikes, etc etc.
