Genesys Talents Expanded

By TheSapient, in Genesys

I would make a basic talent at tier 2 to regain 2 Strain. Then an improved at tier 3 to regain 2 more Strain. Finally the supreme version at tier 4 regains an additional 4 Strain. The total strain recovered is 8, or 4 cybernetics worth, and costs a minimum of 100xp. That’s 15xp less than the cheapest path to all 4 ranks of More Machine Than Man from Cyber Tech, a talent that has the same overall effect.

To me your second is less OP but I’d go rank 3 not 1. It’s the ranked talent part that make me want to push it higher. Unrank it and it could be 1or 2

However why not just port over the Biofeedback Regulator implant from Star Wars that does the same?

Oh, I was unaware, I didn't buy Special Modifications. With that said I'd prefer loading features into Talents instead of Gear.

As for the rank, I can see where you're coming from, since it turns the talent into "low cost Grit" for cybernetic centered builds. One of the things I had in mind when I thought of this was how some cybernetics (such as replacement organs or a second arm or how you need two legs to get the benefits) don't confer any in game modifiers but still take up a "cybernetics slot".

That's a good suggestion as well.

Perhaps this would be a better talent chain.

Man and Machine

Tier 2

For one cybernetic implant ignore the requirement to reduce your Strain Threshold. This may be used with existing cybernetics to raise your Strain Threshold back up to the base amount (starting Strain plus any increases due to talents such as Grit).

Man and Machine (Improved)

Tier 3

One additional cybernetic implant ignores the requirement to reduce your Strain Threshold. This may be used with existing cybernetics to raise your Strain Threshold back up to the base amount (starting Strain plus any increases due to talents such as Grit). Additionally, any cybernetic which does not provide an in-game benefit (such as a matching second cybernetic limb or cybernetic organ which functions as a normal one) does not decrease your Strain Threshold.

Man and Machine (Supreme)

Tier 4

For two cybernetic implants ignore the requirement to reduce your Strain Threshold. This may be used with existing cybernetics to raise your Strain Threshold back up to the base amount (starting Strain plus any increases due to talents such as Grit).

This could theoretically mean a person could have a fully cybernetic/prosthetic body, but if the "crunch" remains the same as baseline for the character I'm okay with that.

Didn't see all the posts, and some formatting!

This is still being updated, or at least planned to be updated right?

Such as the new talents when the book drops, for example.

Yes. I'm not sure if the timeline, but sometime after the first sourcebooks drops, we'll add that and there more recent Star Wars books.

Yes, however real life is nipping at our heals atm. We will get this out. Eventually.

Thank you all for your patience and continued interest!

Ninja’d!

Alright cool, thanks.

I'm a big fan of this resource. It's my go-to for all my sessions. Love how the official and community talents are separated, and how the Star Wars ones are re-flavored.

Looking forward to Terrinoth!

I thought it would be cool to have this document in a format for GMBinder ( https://www.gmbinder.com/ ) for those who use it and maybe want to make some edits. I created a GitHub repo with (mostly correctly) formatted document ( https://github.com/DPetrusma/GenesysTalentsExpandedGMBinder.git ). If enough people are interested, maybe that could be a place to track community suggestions and changes more easily? Plus, you can fork the repo and delete the talents you don't want to create your own version relevant for your world.

I don't personally use GM Binder. I could move the work to GitHub, but I don't think it would be helpful for our workflow.

We do try to make it easy for other people to use the material as they see fit, though.

Excellent resource! Thank you for all the time and effort compiling this for the community.

I have 1 suggestion to put on the update list. Could you please mark talents that are only used by NPC's. During the episode of the Order 66 where they talked with the devs regarding the Dawn of the Rebellion source book, a question about NPC talents came up. The devs mentioned that NPC talents are not "balanced" for PC's to use. While you could allow PC's to have them, it would most likely "break" your game. By marking these GM's could make that choice for themselves.

Since you list the source, it should be fairly easy for GM's to dig this info out so this is a low priority to me that could be added as you have time.

Thank you for your consideration and hard work on this project.

There are no such talents included in GTE.

OK thanks!

Found this: Full Throttle is in the wrong tier. It shows up as a tier 4 talent, when it should be tier 3. This means the Improved version can be tier 4 and the supreme version to tier 5.

And shouldn't Spur/Improved/Supreme be of equal tier to Full Throttle?

Yeah it probably should be

Notes for the update

This is great! I'm definitely stealing this. I've been trying to build my own GMB document for a Forgotten Realms campaign. This will save me a ton of time. Thank you!

Quick! Someone add all the new talents so I don't have to! :)

They are coming, Dawn and FO are currently being processed.

Came up with some cool talents for brawlers, feel free to steal:

Flurry of Blows
Tier: 3
Ranked: No
Your Brawl checks gain the "Linked 1" quality.

Flurry of Blows (Improved)
Tier: 4
Ranked: No
Requires the "Flurry of Blows" talent
Your Brawl checks lose "Linked 1" and gain "Linked 2".

We have a Flurry Talent. Pg. 50.

Slightly different take with a strain cost.

And thanks for sharing! Great minds think alike!

So I have been playing with the Primalist as a monk archetype. So in the vain of Chill of Nordros and the other similar talents.

Monastic Training

When casting an attack spell your character can add the Close Combat effect without increasing the difficulty. You can never add the Range effect. (Effectively limiting you to within short range)

Tier 2

Ranked No

Incidental

I thought of the same thing, but my version was "close combat free, no blast", showing they're a single-target specialist. But many did suggest that range made more sense for a melee-centric character.

VERSION 4.0 is now available.

This version brought to you by TheSapient, ESP77, Swordbreaker, and Richardbuxton - but especially ESP77, Swordbreaker, and Richardbuxton, who did almost all the work on the new talents, with a special thanks to ESP77 for moving all the new text into our spreadsheets.

Including new talents from Realms of Terrinoth, Dawn of Rebellion, and Fully Operational, as well as MANY fixes and corrections.

"Construction Specialist" has [SB] instead of the Setback symbol.

Thank you folks for all this hard work. What an amazing resource.
