Taunt action?

By ravenpolar, in WFRP Gamemasters

So i've just GM'd my second demo game for some friends and there was an extended discussion post game about the lack of a taunt option for the more combat orientated character to get an opponent to fight him rather than the weaker priest character.

My initial reaction was "this guy plays way too much WOW", my second reaction was why not use "Perform a stunt" using intimidate.

Am I thinking this through too much? Should there be such an action? Have my friends played too much WOW?

We discussed the possibility of a combat action based upon Intimidate where the opponent suffers stress from the taunting for a number of round equal to recharge of the card if he does not engage the character. Does this seem logical?

After roleplaying for more years than I care to remember Im not sure I have ever come across this kind of action in any game before and was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts on this.

Cheers

I was thinking Aliens v.s predator..but I think taunt is a good thing. Make an intimidate check...

Have a look at the Fear Me! action (Adventures toolkit). It may be possible to use this as a basis to create a Taunt action.

The Fear Me! card is similar to taunt in that it is using a social action to influence combat so this would be a good start.

Alp

Thanks for that Alp. Not sure how I missed Fear Me before but it looks like a good basis for an intimidate action.

What about somethiing along the lines of;

CONSERVATIVE

Recharge:4

Difficulty: [misfortune][misfortune]

Traits: (anti)social, ongoing

Requisites: Target within medium range

Test: Intimidate (Fel) vs. Target Discipline (WP)

Effect: You lock eyes with your foe and shout crude threats and insults, inciting him to single you out. While this card is recharging the target enemy will do everything possible to single you out in combat, ignoring others that may be closer or weaker. He will immediately disengae if already in an engagement and move towards you. Note that this card uses Fellowship instead of Strength.

[success] you influence the target as described above.

[boon] The target suffers [misfortune] to actions that target you while this card is recharging.

[bane][bane] Move the party friction meter 1 space to the right.

RECKLESS

[sigmars comet] ?

[bane] Move the party friction meter 1 space to the right.

Please note that this is not reallywell thought out, but could by a start to define an action that you and your party can work with.

Alp

Alp, that is very cool. Much along the lines I was thinking as well.

How about as the base effect, "Target suffers 1 stress per round while he is not engaged or moving to engage with you"?

Too much? To strong a power?

I use a defensive assist rule to allow fighters to help weaker characters. If you use a maneuver you may use your defence cards on attacks against the character you assist defensively.

Other than that I use a sort of target management for monsters to make them change target. Lets say a monster is on the weak mage. Then the fighter attacks the monster and inflict 4 wounds after soak. I then roll 4 misfortune dice and if one or more banes come up, then the monster will change target. The same happends if the mage later inflicts damage. It works pretty well in terms of having an organic system that force players to manage their attacks. If a single wound is inflicted however I do not roll any dice.

Cool base effect, seems to be along the right lines. Only problem I can see is if the NPC is delayed and must convert this stress into wounds. I am not sure how to address this.

I would possibly replace the [sigmars comet] in the reckless stance for a [boon][boon] effect instead.

This could be a really good social / combat action.
